  1. Thanks for your thoughts folks, and it's good to see everyone seems OK with the idea of these ships being sunk for dive locations. I was afraid there may some negativity about it. And Peter, thanks for those links, I certainly hope they come up with a solution for the Fraser as sitting rusting at the jetty is a sad way for her to end up.
  2. I'm outta here tomorrow morning at 2:00Am for a couple days of musky fishing with the boyz on Lake St. Clair, but with the heavy rains a & strong north winds their calling for, and the muddy waters that'll go along with it, it's gonna be tough finding those big girls.
  3. Back in my Navy days in the mid 60's I served aboard the destroyer HMCS Annapolis. She was built in 1963 and was a great ship that I sailed countless miles in, from Trinidad to Norway and pretty much everywhere else in between. Like everything manmade though, she only had so many good years in her, and I was under the impression that she was sent to the razor blade factory back in the 90's, but have recentely found out that she is infact now in British Columbia and being de-rigged, and thoroughly cleaned of all contaminants. When she is totally free of anything hazardous, she will be sunk off the BC coast and used as a place for SCUBA divers to explore and will also no doubt become home to thousands of fish. I always find it kinda sad to see a good ship scrapped, so it's nice to hear my old friend is gonna live on in a different role, and certainly in a different part of the water column than she has been used to for the last 45 years. 1st 2 pics show her in her glory days and you can also see the helicopter she carried on the flight deck at the rear of the ship. These 2 show her while she's being stripped down and getting ready for her new home next spring. I just hope the BC scuba divers enjoy her as much as I did, many years ago. Just something I thought a few of you may find interesting.
  4. That was a Kawartha fish Steve, she hit a black/chartreuse bucktail in 3 FOW right on the edge of a 12' drop off.
  5. Well, I've never really been one to measure or weigh fish, 'cept for bigger muskies, so I can't really offer too much to this thread, but this is a nice Largemouth I got a few years back. I always carried a couple scales in the boat for anybody that wanted to weigh something and seeing as this girl was my biggest bass ever, I weighed her on both scales to be sure. It came in at 7 pounds 14 oz. on the spring scale and 8 pounds 2 oz. on a digital so we split the difference and called it an even 8 pounds. Never took a measurement or weight on a pickeral or pike either so I'll offer up this nice 54 1/2" musky from a couple years ago, which by the way, I'm hoping to top this weekend on Lake St. Clair
  6. Hey Mo, is that the boat ramp in the marina with the restaurant right beside the water ?? If so, forget the timmies, that place sells about the best burgers & mikshakes you'll find anywhere....if their still open this time of year
  7. Dang, that's a nasty lookin weapon Glen and could do some serious damage to a person, no matter which way it was swung at him.
  8. It would seem the decision would be an easy one Jon
  9. WTG Will, that's a great day on the water for you !! I've got one of those BnB baits myself, their pretty darned nice.
  10. The Fire Department always has a contingent that marches to the Cenotaph behind the Vets and I took part in that parade for many years, and then even after my retirement I've still always attended the ceremonies, but unfortunately my wife had an 11:00 AM doctors appointment today that she couldn't get out of or change and I had to drive her. I can't remember the last time I didn't attend the ceremonies and I actually feel guilty that I wasn't there today to honour all those that paid the ultimate. I was certainly there in spirit though.
  11. That's 3 weeks in a row you've landed a big fish Steve.......well done Bud !! Love the green color on this one !!
  12. Until the absolutely useless politicians in this country decide to actually do something to punish the thieving punks we have to deal with, they'll just go on ripping off the honest folks and laughing all the way to the next crime. Doesn't matter how hard the coppers work to find and arrest them, the lawyers and courts either plea bargain it away or give such a minor punishment that it makes most of us scratch our heads and wonder what the heck just happened These thieves have absolutely nothing to worry about when they get caught and they know it, so they may as well just go on robbing us. Seems everybody hates thieves........except politicians, lawyers and judges.
  13. Will do Rob, it'll be on April 25th
  14. Squid boated one & lost one......I was just along for ballast
  15. We headed towards eastern Ontario very early yesterday morning for some muskies and really lucked out on the weather. We drove thru rain on the way out, but it cleared before we launched the boat and we fished dry all day with a mix of sun and cloud, although it got VERY windy as the day wore on and made boat control tough, but it was still warm enough that neither of us wore a coat and we didn't even bother putting up the top on the boat. We loaded the boat at the end of the day and as we were heading home last night the rain started again. Rain while were in the car, but sun in the boat....Doesn't get much better than that !!
  16. I haven't been to a show in over 30 years so I probably won't see this picture either unless it comes to the tube, unfortunately. My grandfather fought in the trenches in France with the British Army in WW1 and the stories he used to tell me were beyond belief and what those men went through was nothing short of horrendous. The 2 big wars are ancient history to many people now and I think most kids have no clue about them, specially WW1, so hopefully this movie will give them at least a small idea of what it was all about. From what I was told 1st hand from my grandfather though, I don't think any movie actor could portray the horror of what actually went on in those hell holes.
  17. That sounds like some kind of boss you've got there Pete, maybe you should stick with that company for awhile I do nearly all my shopping at JB's Pete, and there's not another musky shop in the GTA that carries close to their gear selection and their customer service is 2nd to none. There's a few other stores in the area that carry limited supplies of the basic musky gear, but if you ask them any technical questions they have no clue I picked up my 400TE from JB's booth at the Sporstsman Show last spring for $385 along with another 7' 6" Compre and it's the sweetest casting set-up I've ever used and more than worth the money. A few of my fish'n buds use them too and all say the same thing. I also use the Shimano 400 CT's which are excellent reels too, but the TE is far superior to even them IMHO Even if your boss's limit is $400 and the reel is more than that now, why not throw in the extra $$$$ yourself to make up the difference and you'll definetely be happy you did. Something else to keep in mind too Pete, next April there's a show in St. Catherines called the Musky Odyssey and for anyone who has any interest in musky fishing at all it's definetely worth your while to go to it. There's always a huge selection of musky gear from a bunch of different retailers.......including JB's........and you can buy just about everything you could possibly need. They also sell tickets for draw prizes along with silent auctions for alot of items. There'll be at least 4 different seminars throughout the day from different well known musky folks that are extremely interesting. One of the speakers this year is gonna be Bob Mesikomer (sp) from the Simply Fishing musky show and that's the one I'm looking forward to. A group of us from this board usually meet up before the show for breakfast then spend the rest of the day there and it's always and excellent time.
  18. Congrats on the new PB, that's a beautiful pickeral, infact there's been a few bigguns come out of the Kawarthas this last couple weeks.
  19. As my signature says Wayne, "you don't need to catch a fish to have a great day of fish'n", and it sounds like you & Andy did just that. Awesome weather to be on the water, even if the fish aren't co-operating. Andy's a good dood to fish with and we've shared a boat many times That was a nasty drive up the 400 last year Wayne as it was the 1st snowfall of the season and too many folks forgot how to drive in the white stuff, but it sure was nice basically having GBay to ourselves
  20. I'm also a fan of the DownEasters and along with the side mounted rods, I also like to run a rod straight out from the transom to get the baits directly in the prop wash behind the motor. I like to use 4' wire cables with brass snaps to attach the rod to the boat to keep it from going in the drink if anything nasty happens. Only takes a second to un-clip the snap from the rod and is an idea I picked up from Richard Collins that will keep expensive rods/reels from going overboard. Tundra N Lightning, that's a nice set-up you've got there.
  21. Does Big Cliff know about your dreams, Roy ??
  22. Not able to see your picture this time Dave, just getting the dreaded Red X
