  1. Even though Tim Hale and myself don't agree on property management on the ice. He would not be taking out clients unless he felt it was OK. I was going to say safe, but we all know that NO ICE is completely safe. Have a great day out there Cliff; wish I was out there myself. Dan
  2. I think all this will do is make good people unknowingly break the law and bring bait from wherever it is convenient or from where they have bought their bait for years and fished those waters? Dan.
  3. Keep a running track of the costs of your original setup, then add any redesigns that you'll likely encounter; along with their costs. Once up and consistently running, add all your costs; including the hydro consumed while building the system. We won't even talk about your time building and collecting parts. Once all is said and done, calculate how long your system's savings will be to pay for your system. After that, if you can go completely off the grid, you'll have "Free electrical power" Then there comes maintenance? I know what you're trying for, but it's a hard long journey to accomplish what you're striving for. I built a wind generator out of a GM alternator; rewired it to become a permanent magnet generator. The plan was to install it on my fish hut and keep my 12-volt DC system charged. I was test running the system at my place of business. The system was working great. It cost me approx $500.00 + by the time I bought the rectifier, charge controller, and all the material that was needed to rewire or building of the load dump. Came in one morning and found that someone had cut the 3 phase cable from the generator to the rectifier. Which shorted out and burned out the controller. I closed my business shortly after that and everything has been put on the back burner. So take that also into consideration; things that are out of your control that'll add more expense. You'll find that getting reliable free hydro, isn't cheep. Dan.
  4. Agreed, but there's no such thing as cheap free usable electricity. Dan.
  5. The size of the water turbine you'd need to charge a 12/24 volt system, even in a 5-10 hr. time frame, wouldn't be practical on the average size of an angler's boat. Possibly a small gas inverter generator? Some of the newer small gens are very quiet, that installed inside a cubby you'd barely hear it. Dan.
  6. Got any pics? The same goes for anyone else that might like to share a pic or two of their car/truck or whatever (any project even a wheelbarrow LOL) with us? It would be great to see the projects at different stages of the build. Dan.
  7. That is one amazing car Wayne!!!!! My 50 Chevy has had about 65 years worth of the 216cu" in-line 6cyl. engine and the old three-speed manual trans spuing a ton of oil out onto the underbody. If those motors and trans didn't mark their spot when parked; you'd know it was time to top up the levels. Kind of like a butterball turkey; self-basting. LOL So she's very grimy underneath, but the floor pans and frame are as solid as new. She'll never be a show-quality car like your Bee is, so she's staying just as grubby under there. If anyone at a cruise night female dogs about that, I'll ask them to show me their car and we'll compare. That usually shuts them up pretty quickly! LOL Dan.
  8. Wayne. I really like that shade you picked, with the BEE's sharp/squared fender tops and rear 1/4 lines it makes the edges pop. But I'm thinking a little deeper colour for the 50. With her rounded fenders, this colour seems to slowly blend/fade from light to dark. Thanks for the path to find House of Kolor That'll all see what Brian (painter) has for suggestions. I don't want to force a certain brand of paint on him; that'll only open a barn-sized door of excuses if the paint doesn't lay right. Dan.
  9. Sorry but no flat black for this girl, she'd look too gothic/gangster. Now, my 20-year-old niece, that is going through that stage right now would love it. LOL I'm thinking a navy pearl would suit her just fine. Something close to the pearl pictured below. I'm hoping that it will enhance her curves and body flow, as the different light passes over. I don't want to be out with a hooker, I'd rather an elegant lady in an evening gown. LOL Yeah and she likes the drive home too. LOL Dan.
  10. Yeah I know, this is a fishing site, and forgive me for this; but the old girl is about finished at the spa. She went in about three years ago for the bodywork she needed (Never tell a body man to take his time LOL). She got new rear 1/4 panels, rocker and sills, door bottoms, and lower front fender panels. Now the guys are starting to put on her makeup, with the first coat of primer. All the replacement panels looked like they were fitted perfectly. Door edge gaps and fender skirts are likely a better fit than factory. Again sorry but I was so happy today to get the pic of all the major bodywork being done. I'll update if anyone is interested. The first time I noticed and realized that I liked this body style of Chev, was when we were in Cuba about 10 years ago and there were hundreds of them for me to check out. Took me about two years to find the car I wanted and in of all places was Cornwall. The motor and drivetrain were pretty much done for. So I decided to put a 1999 V8 (4.8-liter) fuel-injected motor and electronic 4-speed trans in, from a Silverado pick-up. Turned the car into an all-around driver. Loved the corner to corner scoots, blowing away a lot of the rice rocket Hondas, and could cruise the Hwy all day long at a buck 20. So yeah I'm looking forward to getting her back on the road. She's already taken me on a couple of 9-hour (one-way) fishing trips up North and I'm looking forward to many more. Dan.
  11. Yeah, I know what you mean, where did 21 go??????? Dan.
  12. I'm jealous of the new camera! Had a cheap one off of Amazon that was supposedly rated for 100 feet. Worked great perch fishing in 15-20 feet. Was able to keep the drinks off the bait and bring the bait to the larger fish. The first time on Simcoe in 40+ FOW the camera lasted about a minute before flooding and burning out. You'll enjoy the camera; I know I did as long as it lasted. Dan.
  13. Yes, that'll likely happen; but as long as there is cooking oil (olive, canola, vegetable ect.) available; your 2 strokes will still be out there running. With some things, we don't always need to use dinosaur juice to keep things running. The high flashpoints of these cooking oils can withstand the temperatures of the lower end lubrication requirements. They are also combustible as to not inhibit the upper end of the engine to produce power. I haven't seen any long-term results on running cooking oil: but I do know it works fine on all the short-term tests that I studied. Dan. PS: Wouldn't it smell great if the fumes from the engine gave off the smell of fish & Chips LOL
  14. I would like a pair of these NATS; just for how light they are, but I'm also the guy that'll always seem to find a water/slush hole; that is well above the lower portion of the boot. Soaking the liner through the canvas uppers. Don't know how waterproof the Nats are, but every two-part boot for me means a wet foot. I'll stay with my Kamik Mammoth boot. All rubber halfway up my shin, with a very thick liner; making them very warm. The pair I have are size 12, two sizes larger than what my running shoe size would be. Gives me lots of room to wiggle my toes & feet inside the boot. I can honestly say I cannot remember ever having cold feet while wearing them. Yes with the chains attached they weigh in at 8 1/4 lbs; but I'm not a walker. I do keep a spare pair of lighter Skidoo boots in Sally; just in case of a breakdown where I have no choice other than to walk to safety. Crapy Tire actually has them on sale right now. Here's Sally if any of the newer guys haven't seen her. She allows me a complete change of clothes; stored nicely behind the driver's seat. This was 5 miles out on Lake Nipissing; out of North Bay.
  15. Using electric motors is not my concern; they'll have an estimated range. With the ever changing improvements in battery technology; the electric motor may equal the range of an internal combustion engine. My concern is with the infrastructure to charge these batteries. How many marinas can afford the equipment, in large enough volume to handle consumer's needs. What will the actual environmental foot print be compared to running internal combustion engines. As in how is the electricity being produced (Coal)? What are the by-products of building these electric motors, chargers; how toxic are they. Dan.
  16. Sorry to some of the guys here; but the OP didn't ask for opinions of 12 volt verses 24 volts. OP asked, if the way he's wired his 12 volt batteries was a good way to do it. Yes (IMHO) it is probably the best way of getting the most out a 12 volt system. As for charging the batteries, just use the one bank of the charger for the two that are connected in parallel and the other bank to charge the starting battery; assuming you have one? As Shane (Sinker) said it will take longer to recharge the TM batteries; but 6-10 hours at 10amps should bring them back to full. Every fisher needs to sleep sometime. LOL So plug in the charger; let your Toddy of water, honey, cinnamon and your favorite whiskey warm and enjoy. Knowing the batteries will be happy and ready to go in the morning. Dan.
  17. This is a paid position. Yes I'll have a (1) supervisor; which I think I can handle without a problem. When I had my garage; I had hundreds of supervisors. Every customer told me what I was or wasn't allowed to do to their vehicle. Thanks for the reply though. You never know, this 1 supervisor may turn into the second coming of Hurricane Hazel? LOL Dan.
  18. Well retirement and lounging around the house was short lived. I think I'm going back to work part time. Not in automotive; I'm done dealing with people having to make grudge purchases. Applied for a position at a firm called Seniors for Seniors. Not sure if I'll get the position; there's a crap load of personal checks and becoming certified in a few areas; which so far can be done on-line? The job would entail that I would become a companion, handyman around the house, driver and help with day to day things (cleaning, cooking ect) that a client may require (No Butt Wiping. LOL). I've always enjoyed being with/helping the elderly and looking forward to a chance to give this a try. Maybe I could get into customizing their wheelchairs? Dan.
  19. It was a joke.😁 Google the "meaning of coozy" Wish there was some form of ice anywhere near us that's fishable. Dan.
  20. Sorry reread that post a number of times and must have a mental block? What kind of American hunters that are in need of something warm and coozy? (Coozy not a spelling mistake LOL) Dan.
  21. An empty shell of a boat hull, will not tell you everything water leak wise; you may want to know? The boat shell should be weighed down to what the approx weight that it'll carry while in use. Just think of Pascal's Law. Fluid will always travel from a high pressure to a low pressure. If the boat empty (for # sake) is 100lbs it will only apply 100lbs of pressure to the underside of the hull. Add 500-800+lbs the pressure will go up equally to the hull. May not leak @ 100psi; but may weep, seep, dribble and or pour at 800lbs?? I understand why you want to test it before closing up the floor; just test it with the proper weight. Dan.
  22. Holly crap. If I didn't read your text; I would have thought I was looking at a new style of sleeping bag; let alone fancy waders. Big difference from my 20+ year old neoprene's and I thought they were great. As fancy as they are (not because of what you paid); but would you like some Grey Poupon to dip your snack in Sir. As the butler (in his noeprene's) walks away. LOL Good on you for finding the deal you wanted! Dan..
  23. Hate to admit it; but so true! LOL Dan. Oh crap I don't even have a boat anymore.
  24. Oh Yea! I like my Chevys; BUT a well built Mopar will run all day at the track; where my Chevy may need some refinements/repairs during the day?. But at the end of a day of racing, we'll both be in the hole with about the same amount of money spent. What you put into the Chryco before race day and me fixing crap between runs. LOL
