Speeding has nothing to do with this trajedy. You simply cannot justify some idiot dame stopping in the fast lane of a busy highway to help out some cute ducklings. I guarantee you that no guy would have even considered doing such a stupid, dangerous thing. I hope Darwin works out here and she loses her license for life. You could always try one of those Gibbs slip sinkers. You can let out as much line as you like then attach the sinker and pinch it in place. When you reel in the sinker hits your rod tip and releases, sliding down your line. Or you could manually remove it and finish reeling in your fish. We can thank the Ontario gov for our hydro prices and the federal National Energy Board giving out export permits for the propane prices.The huge demand is from Asia and if a supplier can sell his product for way more overseas it's not hard to figure out why we end up the losers. Poloticians just plain don't care about it's citizens that much or they would regulate prices to minimize the hardships we are going through now. And it's the poor folks that get hit the worst. it's a real shame. I switched from oil to propane like the gov and insurance companies were pushing and now I'm really ticked off at the price increase since this summer. I'm sure glad I heat with wood mostly. Around here where I am in the country most people burn wood. It's the cheapest heat by far. It's about $300 a full cord delivered. Myself I buy a tandem load of 16ft logs for $1000, which gives me 7-8 full cords and that will do me 2 years. That's $500 a year plus labour. Now my back doesn't like it as much anymore but it is still the most excersize I get all year. After a few weeks of working at it my back actually starts to improve as the muscles develop. Nothing beats wood heat IMO. Everyone just loves to stand beside the wood stove and soak it in. Cheers

Just make sure you have a stiff rod to trip the Pink Lady when you want to reel in if a fish hasn't tripped it. If anyone is looking for a diver that's fully adjustable from 5-80 ft and is light with no weight check out the Fish Seeker. Can be used with 6 lb. line even. Only $8. BPS carries them. I do it all the time here of course and even when I lived in the city I didn't care one iota if I was in my back yard and no one could see. Too many damn senseless laws anyway. As for insurance he was paying close to a g note a year on the rig but the trailer was only insured for $750 so that will hurt the pocket book some. The main thing is that nobody was hurt. Ctered i can check if my bro took pics. I imagine he would have but he may have been far to upset to even think about it. From what I gathered all the leaf springs sheared off close to the axle u bolts but I still haven't figured out how the axle and wheel assy. escaped from under the trailer. Must have been on the "up bounce" after the trailer wheels hit the bump. I'll have another chat with my brother and see what else I can find out. Cheers

My Fiskars bypass pruners always travel with me for minor clearing and shooting lanes etc. Well worth the price. They can easily cut up to 1". Well maybe not ironwood lol. I don't use machetes so I don't know how they compare but they would be faster and easier to carry for sure. That and a smaller buck saw is what I carry even if I have the quad with a chain saw.. Many of our trails are made for quads anyway so a chain saw is handy. Cheers

My brother owns a 2000 Nitro 882 with a 150 Merc and a Shorelander trailer he bought 5-6 years ago. This was originally a package deal sold at gmas. It hasn't seen a lot of use the last few years between his son moving out and weird overheating issues among a few adventures with the engine. But it's been fine since last summer. Here's the story. Our family cottage is on Lac Pemichagan off of the Point Comfort Rd. On Sunday he's coming back home to Ottawa and approaches the steel bridge over the Gatineau River a couple of miles before hitting the 105. As he hits the little bump at the bridge his single axle separates from the trailer and boat, with wheels still attached !! Every leaf spring sheared at the U-bolts. Fulcrum point right? Friggin wild. So here he is with the trailer skidding across the bridge behind his truck and the axle and wheels catching up to him as the trailer and boat start to swing out to the side. Luckily the boat/trailer didn't flip and things came to a stop on the bridge with the axle and wheels back aways. Here is where good Karma comes in, so to speak. No vehicles were coming across the bridge at the same time 200 ft up the road is Lafontaine Marine. It's been there forever. You almost couldn't have picked a better spot for this to happen if it was meant to be. Can you imagine the potential for disaster if this happened on the 105 or the 5, or the 417 in Ottawa??? I shudder to think about it. Most of all, no one was hurt. Thank heavens I guess. Has anyone of you ever heard of leaf springs breaking like that? It almost makes you think the trailer was undersized. My bro is meticulous in his work so maintenance is not an issue. But then, who regularly checks for stress cracks on their trailer suspension? I doubt my bro did this year, but you can bet he will from now on. The marina said they had never ever seen such a thing before. It's not a write off they say. Transom damage and a bit of hull damage to the boat. Lower leg damage at the transom saver to the motor and the prop broke too somehow. I guess small miracles do happen. In this case I'm a firm believer. Hallelujah Please be careful guys. Let this be a good warning to all boaters. Check your suspension for cracks etc. Maybe this story can save someones life. Pass it on. Cheers

I totally stand corrected. I thought for sure that had changed. I want two anyway, for dual paddling in case of trouble. As if a single paddle could do very much saving a heavy boat in a strong wind anyway. Cheers

Kipawa is my favorite place in my small world. I love it!! My best fishing vacations happened there along with great partying back in the day as we usually had 2-3 cabins at Corbeau Lodge at first and then moved to Alwaki lodge as it was better suited to our needs. Kinda funny, back when we were going to Kipawa it was mostly about Lakers but I realized after a while the value of late evening walleye fishing and party hearty later. My pb pickerel of over 11lb. came at 10:30 pm in the back corner of Corbeau Island. My partner caught a 10.5 lb Grey that week too, so we won the whole weekly lodge derby for biggest pickerel and trout and made some good coin. All out of my 14 ft tinny lol. I know the "Hub"section best and down to Hunters Lake area. Never caught or ever even heard of a smb being caught. I hope they stay in the Laniel end as I can't see how they wouldn't hurt the Walleye fishery. TbayBoy we always caught plenty of 3lb+ picks and enough 5lb.+ to gloat over around the table lol. I know 3 Seasons is a good camp but its at the top end of the whole system. By being in the "hub" section of Kipawa, which is the best part of the system IMO, your options are far greater for travel in many directions for exploration. Plus I think you will catch more larger fish. I frequent Kipawa.net and I faithfully read the many reports every year. Great site.Tons of info on techniques for up there too. Many, Many Americans are totally in love with Kipawa and travel days to go there. I know why, and it's only a 5 hour trip for me. Best advice I could give you would be to check out Alwaki Lodge for next year. You won't regret it. Cheers

Tks for the replies folks. A box just came in the mail the other day. I ended up with the Canon T5I with an 18-55 IS STM lens kit. Also got the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. While the 70-200 f/4 gets a bit better reviews I'm sure I'll be quite happy with what I got. It's been a long time since I've used my old SLR and the more reading I do the more I realize that I've forgotten most of the knowledge I had in the past. That being said, I figure I should take a good photography course so I'm hoping someone here (maybe Justin) could recommend a good place in the Ottawa area to take one. I'm sure it will greatly improve my learning curve. Cheers

I hear you Dan, but unfortunately my old telephoto zoom was a Tamron so they are not giving it a high value. But I will for sure get IS and USM. The difference in price to jump to a much better lens will be a lot more than between the T3 and T5.It would be nice for sure but I am not employed atm so funds are limited. At the least I get 50% better resolution and 1080p vids. Plus that HDR sounds like it could be real fun to play with. Tks for the replies folks.
