A bad day at the Bassmaster Classic
Old Ironmaker replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
A good read. If fly fishing would be compared as Chess The Bass Pro circuit would be MMA. -
From what I have learned full coverage as well as all perils is for roads that are maintained whether public or private designed to travel on by a vehicle. That does not include waterways and off road conditions. That did not come from my agent, he is basically a salesman is what a Broker told me. There is a difference for vehicles plated as farm vehicles. Please don't take my word for it just ask what the definitions are in your policy. I have about 100K in vehicles here and I wouldn't risk any of that poor investment driving on ice. I'll wait and take the boat out.

I can only go by what my guy says Terry. If the guy says no then it's no. The first time on Colchicine I thought we were in the middle of a farmers field, my pals Dad says stop here, drill a hole there, for what oil?

I I have driven on the ice in my early years more than a few times. With this discussion in mind I was recently talking to my Insurance Broker. I am told I am not insured to drive on ice, no coverage for any loss. I asked if there was a rider one might buy to drive a car or truck on ice and he said not in Ontario. Sleds and ATV's do have clauses for coverage. I should have asked him about the ice roads trucks use up north. Are you covered for loss? I'm not.

Putting the plug in the boat brings me luck. It never sank with the plug in yet.

Sounds like there are still responsible people around, nice to know. If I have to drive in T.O. I do not take the Altima to save gas I take my Silverado 4X4, I feel a bit safer in it. I grew up in crazy one way Hamilton and drove in TO regularly, after moving out into the sticks I cringe when I have to drive in Cayuga pop. 355. People in the country drive as bad as in the city, just less of them. A fender bender at 90K is bad, really bad. Come to think of it, the majority of folks have no idea how to drive.

A rough day on the ice, Fish Report- updated
Old Ironmaker replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
Chris, that is an absolute piss off. But please let the Police and insurance handle it. I can tell you if you do find it and confront the little pricks it doesn't end well. Years ago my legal fees far exceeded the price of the bike that was stolen after my pals and I came across my old Panhead and the guys who stole it. -
I saw the Fishin Canada episode Saturday. They spent 100K to turn a PrinceCraft into a Ranger. I did like the checker plate rubber flooring.

No wonder I can't find a football game on. I like Nascar, especially back in the old days when a bunch of overweight guys drove in circles in the family car. We all thought, hey I can do that.

It hurts me more losing a less expensive lure that is working than an expensive lure that isn't.

Just a bit of trivia Limey, the man standing on the metal podium is one Tommy Smith, he came to Hamilton and signed with the Ti Cats shortly after the Olympics. He could not believe that 90% of the black population in Hamilton then were all playing on the team. It was a culture shock for him for sure.

Only one lure. What would it be?
Old Ironmaker replied to Acountdeleted's topic in General Discussion
Banjo Minnow. Really a Black and silver metal flake Rappala F-9 would be my #1 choice. -
Excellent.

You lucky dude's I'd choose the Gala apple. I don't know why guys and women of all ages want to date me either.

I do not like you very much right now as a wave of -20 blows in when the door is opened to let in the cat. Have fished the Keys for years and love it. You never know what you will hook or what broke you off. Next time go big. Charter out of Islamorada. Deals can be made this time of year. Someone is always looking to team up and split the cost. Did you do the entire run top to bottom. It is nowhere like it was years ago. Nothing much is but then no Walmarts, Walgreens and McDonalds etc. I hope you got off the beaten track and hit some small islands like Little Dear Key, my favorite spot. Nothing like a long stare down between a Gator and a White Egret, guess who wins? Glad you enjoyed it, you, you,,,,,,.

I would love to sit in court the day the Crown tries to prosecute someone that fed his pets the carcass of or a legally caught fish.

While doing my battery hunt 2 years ago I found out that Johnson Controls manufactures almost 70% of all batteries sold in North America. It did then. Many labels, same company. I had 1 deep cell go after 1 year that was paired with a second for 24V, they replaced 1 not 2, no issues so far.

If I go out on the lake and keep my limit, come home and clean them, feed the family and friends then go out the next day and do the same thing I will have say 12 Walleye heads in the garbage for garbage day. So if what you say is correct Floatnfly I am exceeding my possession limit by 6 with the 12 heads? If that's the case I better feed the heads to the dogs before garbage day. I have a good friend that has 3 dogs, they feed on Walleye heads when they can get them. That pen can have many skulls in there at any given time after we clean the fish, I better citizens arrest him, and the dogs. If I want to give my pet part of my possession of a game fishes that would beg the question would that be "abandon the fish or permit the fish to spoil that is suitable for human consumption" I just downloaded the 108 page 2015 regs. Sometimes I think one might want to think about taking a lawyer along to fish for a day.

At 5 bucks a scoop for minnows there would be better value in 5 bucks worth of T bone. As for the question that begs a legal opinion of which I try and avoid. I was going to give one but will wait for the answer that is the correct one.

To be serious for a minute, Have a freezer? Sell it. You are paying big bucks in Hydro rates to keep frozen the on sale meats that you will throw away with freezer burn in 6 months. Have a cell phone will all the Apps, you don't need it no matter what you say unless it's for business to make you $$$$. I pay Koodo $21.50 taxes in to use it to call home, 911 or *16. Have a toy you are paying interest on, sell it. More vehicles than drivers, sell it. Spend no more than 10% of your net on hobbies and entertainment, including fishing. Now here's the biggie that made the Millionaire Barber a millionaire and many self help financial gurus rich!!!! Spend less than you earn. The real thing is to learn what a good budget is, make one with help from an unbiased party and live by it. But make sure you take the time to live. Living well is free.

Do a 5 to 7 year stretch. Saves on spending but cramps your social life and fishing trips. Social life not as much.

Shopping for a new baitcaster, finally
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
So it seems I am choosing the right stuff. Curado I it is, now to find a deal. Thanks all, JD -
Have used my Shimano Bantam for about 30 plus years and have a Quantum that bit the bisquit after only 10 years. It's time to dig deep and cough up. It will be a Shimano. As all my spinning reels are Shimano and that brand has never, ever failed on me. I was set up with a Currado when I went out with Dan Columby last October and loved it. Smoothest cast and retrieve I have ever used in a baitcaster. I do not use a baitcaster much as I fish 99% of the time for Smallmouth on Erie and longlining here as well. And zero backlash that day, not a one and I'm no pro on a baitcaster. It will be used for smallies and Northerns and Largemouth on my annual upper NY state trip. My budget is $200.00 CDN taxes in. My old one has paid for itself in over 30 years. I see the Currado 1 for $179.00 at Cabellas. Feel free to advise please. As long as it's a Shimano.

I never had need to charge my starter battery. Until the first time out with the new kicker. My electronics killed the battery. That electric start kicker paid for itself to bring us in 8 miles out. But if I didn't have the kicker I wouldn't kill the start battery. Had just enough to start the 15HP kicker. Something I need to address for this year. I don't want to kill the battery again. I might just buy a booster pack. Draining batteries kill them.

Salmon Jigging - Rod / Reel / Lure Recommendation
Old Ironmaker replied to Afraz's topic in General Discussion
We actually jigged for suspended Walleye 2 years ago on Erie. 4 passes through a screen full of fish and not a hit I was going to loose it. Used the line counter and put a snap wt. on it with a 1/2 oz. swim bait. Believe it or not we nabbed 2 nice 8 pounders. Why not I said? Never thought of Salmon. Line counter was perfect to get to the exact depth.
