Cast # 578...help me hook up a muskie before #1000

Charter Dan Columby out of Callander Bay and save yourself 1000 casts and a load of $$$. -
Get him up and tell him to go sleep on the couch like my wife does. Oh you mean a real Dog not your husband? Tell him to get out of the bedroom or you go sleep on the couch. My wifes cat snores and has cat nightmares, I swear. And I hate cats so guess who sleeps on the couch?

I just caught a new show Les Stroud is doing that he has his teen son with him. It was on the Travel Channel that I never watch. Check it out. We were caught in a lake effect storm on Long Point Bay ice fishing 25 years ago and got stuck there over night. You would think we would have plenty to eat with all those perch there, nothing. It was reality for sure. Especially when the wood ran out before mid night. Long story and not fun.

Keep it up Lucas.

Trailer in Ontario is through the MOT. Very simple process.

Most any good Mom and Pop tackle store has them Pete. I get the beads from craft stores because of a better selection of colours and sizes, Michael's. If I have 1 tip that would be to use plastic clevises as to not cut the main line. You can actually change the blades on the fly if you want to. Don't cheap out on baitholder hooks. It sure is a fun thing to do during a cold winters day. I use 30 pound Big Game mono because I have a spool of it. The real enjoyment is actually catching a fish with something only you have if you make them unique and not another fisherman in the country or even World has. I don't know if you have any young ones around but kids love making them. The craziest one I have is a harness my niece made when she was 5, it catches big Walleye. She's 28 now and I showed it to her last Christmas, Her boyfriend asked for it, no way Jose go make your own. So after dinner I got my box of parts out and got 12 new harnesses this year. Go nuts have fun. edit, I would tie on the hooks for them, don't need a wait in emergency and explain you are running a child labour sweat shop making lures.

I get the us first others next, 110% agreement. Now if our illustrious leaders can get it that would be a step in the right direction. We still need to cow tow to a Queen in some country most Canadians will ever visit, some might not even know where it is. This is 2015 for C's sakes not 1715. Bow to a Royal? That's just not in my DNA. When you became a Canadian did you have to pledge allegiance to the Queen? I think the generation of Canadians born now will end that Bull in 30 years, less would make me more than happy. I would love to see Canada become independent of this British rule in my lifetime. How I am digressing to this I have no idea other than to say that's what I do. Sorry all. What clubs are Canadian? If they can knock 5 strokes off the card I'm a customer!

I don't want to live in a self sustained Canada, heck we don't have a single golf club manufacturer and my choice of fishing equipment would be slim pickins. What kind of life would that be? We would be good to go as far as Whiskey and Beer though, Maple Syrup too I suppose.
-
Rick we just do not have enough consumers to be self sustained. Years ago when I was taking marketing the #1 trade partner of the US was Ontario, world wide, #2 was the rest of Canada. Go to any grocery store, big box store, car dealer wherever consumer goods are sold and you will find that at least 60% of the products we buy are from US owned corps, probably more I can't quantify the number right now. Made in Mexico or China but US corps. Right or wrong that's what we have. Hell even China with their billions of consumers could not be self sustained as Chairman Mao envisioned. They had to open their ports to imports so they could do many things including export. and joining the 21st Century. A manufacturing or mining company, to name a few in Canada can not survive today in a domestic only market. See Stelco Inc. Algoma Steel, Sydney Steel, Alta Steel. The list is interminable. As long as we were building a post WW2 Canada it worked. All the boats are built, the bridges and roads, the plants and skyscrapers. Now what? As far as who is married to whom, I don't get what you mean to say there. We are married to the Yanks, and are kept barefoot and pregnant. That will not change in my lifetime, it's just the way it is. They fart and we need a colostomy.

You did an excellent job. Congrats and enjoy. If I ever needed to know something I used to ask my usual suspects now I just come here and ask. From repairing my boat to making a voting choice, it's all here on OFC, the one stop brain trust. Learning more about fishing is a bonus.

You are well on your way Lucas. I don't care where that property is that you own in Hamilton what I do know is that your investment has seen a 30% increase, or more, in the last 24 months. I used to work with many men at the plant that were building McMansions on a Steelwokers shift wages when people were loosing there homes with interest rates at 18%. They were in their 30' and 40's when I was in my 20's when I watched them do this. All those that made a comfortable enough life to buy their children their own homes as wedding gifts was enough for me to start owning and renting when I was 24. I learned a long time ago real estate was the way to go for a working guy like me and others especially when I lost 50K in the stock market in 81'. I retired from the plant at 45 when I sold all 3 places. Then bought 2 places in Florida for peanuts and 1 in Arizona when the real estate in the US went for a poop. My wife is too young to retire and doesn't even want to think about hanging around with the likes of me all day but when she does we will choose from the 2 places we have down south that I still rent out today. I can afford to flip 35 and 45% to the property management companies there as all I need to do is deposit my cheques at the end of the month and watch the equity go up. Keep it up.

Even though I did not think this thread was a very good idea I find myself reading it everyday. It is amazing reading some of the ridiculous notions level headed people have when it comes to our country. If I remember correctly the same things I read here were the same things I heard sitting around the dinner table at my Noni and Nono's home when I was a kid in the 60's in NY and continue to today when we get together. They would say "All politicians are crooks, lets get some new crooks." Sound familiar?

We just got all the paper work for a boat we are flipping that the owner had lost over the years. It was a matter of getting a few photos of the boat, licence # on the bow, include the serial number on the hull and inboard on the application and then have it all Notarized by a Notary Public. Not difficult. You will have to have all the paperwork, licence and registration plus the safety equipment for a boat that size. It's not much more than for a 12 footer and a 9.9. Not a big deal. As far as insurance it is not mandatory but a smart person will at least get liability coverage in the case of an accident where personal injuries and or property damaged is involved. Accidents happen. You would never drive on a roadway without liability insurance. Talk to your broker, some Homeowners policies may cover some loss for a boat. Enjoy the new ride.

I'm going to take that ride one of these days. NE wind Sat should be actually perfect. Got the PM, thanks. It looks like Sunset Beach Hawaii here today. Surfs up Kookamunga.

The word is that they are moving east which is contrary to the normal migration patterns, there's nothing normal about this year on Erie. Glad you found them Boss. You can't get any simpler longlining than that. And they say downrigging out here is dead. I don't think so. Like you I don't enjoy pulling up boots from the deep tied to all sorts of terminal tackle against the boat speed and current. Sorry you didn't make a visit the other day. Another time Dave.

I've had great tenants and bad tenants. I always lived in the duplex or triplex. In my opinion there is something amiss if an individual has great credit and doesn't buy their own property in these times of low interest rates. There is always the exception like a recent divorce and business failure. I always liked renting to people that previously owned their own home but no longer did for many reasons, they took care as if were their own. Find a place you can rent a portion of it to pay for your mortgage. Absentee landlord especially out of town for your first property? like I said before and many here have, never.
-
Are you talking short term seasonal rentals or full time Pete? There's a big difference. If it full time and you are 4 hours away from the property it may ruin you unless you can afford a local property manager to maintain it for you and that is not free. I have gone with my heart and gut and I have listened to my brain, the brain is usually right like it or not.

Triumph Roplene molded polymer boats
Old Ironmaker replied to mike rousseau's topic in General Discussion
You have a very nice rig there Chris. Perfect for Erie as it looks easily trailer able and stable enough for the strong SW winds. That video of them cutting that SeaHunter in 2 made me weep. The title should be "Things rich Americans can do". -
Are there Bear proof screens? Your nuts man. Nuts in a good way.

How big is this "Toon" of yours? I saw a guy in the bay around the corner this weekend and it had sonar, rod holders, and an electric trolling motor! Why not just get a tinny and stay dry and the legs won't burn full of lactic acid pulling around all that weight? An electric can't be very safe with the feet not far from that prop, is it? All that was missing was solar panels and a sail. As far as details in the blue zones nothing beats Garmin chips. I have never seen one as accurate. It showed me everything I needed very close to shore here on Erie. There was actually too much info in the shipping channels that made it tough to read in areas.

tb4me, I am very interested to get some documentation concerning Shell being allowed to run crude into the Atlantic for 21 days before a well is capped. Do you have any link(s) I could follow? That doesn't sound good. Are we talking Econ Valdes or BP gulf spill gallons per minute here for 21 days? Perhaps someone is getting a few things misinterpreted. Do we have any scientists on board to educate us here, I don't even know what science this comes under geology? I need to know more, so please tell us where you have learned this to be true. I concede this won't be the only political thread here before October that's a given. This oil pumping into the Atlantic for 21 days is news to me and many I'm sure. PM me with these links if you will so I don't hi jack this thread.

We are blessed to own lakefront property. When my legs were OK I would spend hours at a time wading the shoreline catching 1 Bass after another. Those are some of the best memories I have in my life. I'm not one to fish alone in the boat out here in Erie. If for only the safety in numbers factor. There are many times I have gone out with a few guys and I really wished I had gone alone. Joe at your age I can only hope I am still breathing let alone fishing solo. You are an inspiration Sir.
