Akrisoner, you mentioned " skinning" a few times, what is it? As far as golf like I said those that can't do teach. I have been golfing for too many years to be as inconsistent as I am. Birdie, par, birdie, 7!!! That's me now. OK, what is "reveen". The illusionist? Cooking Duck correctly is a secret. My hunting buddies bring me duck every year because they cook it wrong, a salty wooden plank is what it tastes like when they cook it. Rick that isn't the Railway Hole on Royal St. Annes is it? No wonder you hit drives 300 yards, you get 200 yards of carry on that concrete parking lot fairway. -
Living on the water can be frustrating. All I need to do is drive the 15 minutes to the slip and the wind is so bad nobody in their right mind would go out in it. Good luck you guys.

Clean Disruption NF Electric Cars not that far away!

The entire renewable energy movement is geared towards environmental protection. If there is money to be made doing this corporations will be more than happy to be onboard. Many years ago we were charging basically what was dirt with some Iron in it to make iron. The furnaces went for a dump. The then CEO asked me why? I told him we were trying to make Iron out of garbage. He said if we can make more money burning garbage we are now in the garbage business. Say what!!! -

Not a bad finish actually Rick. -
3 hours to Newmarket from Nanticoke area, the Hamlet of Selkirk to be exact. A Village would have stop light to qualify. We have a stop light but it doesn't work.

moemoe, Bill's Bait and Tackle is my #1 go to store, located on Upper James just north of Mohawk in Hamilton, #2 is Fishing World on Barton St. E. and Centennial also in Hammertown. If Bill's doesn't have an item they will do their best to order it in. Bill's have always matched prices for me unless the item is on sale as a loss leader. I don't expect anyone to take a loss. Go into Bill's a few times a year and they remember you, try getting that at BPS or any off the big box guys. I ordered a tackle box from Bill's last year and they offered to deliver it to my place an hour away. One of the owners has a cottage down the lake from us come to find out. Bill's is the best.

That is one great report Akrisoner, and more importantly one great attitude for dealing with what life throws at us from time to time. You guys sure put a beating on some poor unsuspecting fish. A "hike" in BC, more like climbing K2. That pimple called the Niagara Escarpment we from Hamilton call a mountain, what a joke, you were in the Mountains. I have copied a few pics of yours and I hope to paint one this winter. A Dodge Ram,,,,,,,,,,,really? It's not a Chevy but regardless nice ride. Has anyone told you that you are standing on the wrong side of the Golf ball? If that is you I like the positioning and balance. I would however like to see your left elbow tighter to your body by 6"s. Do you find you are hitting over the top a lot? Classic Chicken Wing. As they say those that can't do teach. Thanks for the fantastic read Akrisoner. I would love to know how you came up with your handle "Akrisoner"? It has always intrigued me. I say if anything you do, say, play, paint, write, sing that evokes an emotion you have succeeded in your Art. You have succeeded on this one young Sir. Thanks once again, well done. Johnny D -
Are you back home Wormdunker? If you are give me a ring please. I feel good enough to help you finish that basement we talked about TWO years ago due to my health rebirth. Huzzaba just closing the damper when not in use doesn't mean it is well sealed. You shouldn't be using that fireplace if saving money on energy is important to you. I don't know anyone that isn't concerned with heating bills, even some of my friends that are very well off like Wormdunker. Close the damper and then cut to size a few sections of the blue closed cell rigid insulation and stuff it in there tightly. I would also cut some R-24 Roxul and stuff that up the flue as well. I don't think you will be taking on the expense of installing a air tight insert especially since you rent. Maybe the owner will as it is an improvement to his rental unit, you can only ask right? Rooms above garages are notorious for being the coldest rooms in the home. Builders never provide enough and sometimes NO insulations in the floor. We found zero insulation in the closet area of a pals townhouse in Hamilton that was to be the nursery for the new baby. Not a huge repair, just removed the ceiling of the garage and spray foamed between the joists. It became the warmest and coolest room in the home after insulated properly. Canuck unless something has changed the double stainless liners are there to control cooling of the hot waste gas going up and out of the stack (chimney) to outside of the home without the moisture in the gas going to a liquid that causes all manner of problems in the combustion process. Combustion air is provided to the hearth from within the building envelope. We don't want freezing cold air to overcool the stack.

Captain, is it in US or Canadian prices? Before they opened the Niagara store I made the 3 hour drive one way to the 400 store after I confirmed they had the combo in stock and confirmed the price only to find the sale item was in US prices. Grrrrr!!! They will never get my money any longer, never. Have you guys gone to your locally owned independent guy and asked if they can match the price?

All beauties brudder. The last Walter is much larger than the clones . I see a dock under your feet in one pic, I guess whoever owns it doesn't mind you using it. I have neighbours that have their docks posted "NO FISHING". It's all about liability today unfortunately. I thought your generation does more circuit training than the old "legs and back" followed by "chest and arms" rest a day and or a day of aerobic work a carb load plus a juice up, repeat. I am amazed by all the new to me workouts and tools available. No matter how it is achieved no pain, no gain still stands up to the test of time Rick. I have an old workout that will increase your maximum lift of any method by up to 25% in 3 months. PM me if you want to look at it. -
A thread where Cliff apologizes for creating a political thread is becoming another political thread. Now that's humourous. Art, a big thank you to T.J., Roy, Spiel, and yourself for all the fantastic unselfish work you guys do to keep OFC alive for us all. I read other forums and on-line news publication where they ask for donations to keep the site on-line. I have never read here that donations are welcome. I know I would pay a nominal annual fee or a donation to ensure OFC stays on-line. Being a privately owned L.L.C. or corporation that might not be something allowed legally, I'm not sure. You guys would probably refuse to accept donations anyway. Thanks again, I probably speak for us all in thanking you.

After a long hiatus away from the game for me as a fan I am amazed to see the salaries of Major League ball players today. It is far higher in MLB than a NFL player. There are only a hand full of impact Football players that make between 15 and 20 million a year. A Pro Bowl player might earn between 8 and 15 mil a year. The average playing career is far less for a NFLer as well. We aren't talking chump change in the NFL and my heart doesn't bleed for them, I am just surprised at the wage gap between the 2 games given that NFL teams make greater earnings than MLB teams do. Costs for a MLB team must be substantially higher for 162 games vs. 16. This kid looks good, it would be nice to have 2 players of this caliber. I don't have an idea as far as his defensive skills are concerned.

Clean Disruption NF Electric Cars not that far away!
Old Ironmaker replied to Headhunter's topic in General Discussion
I listened to a very good 900 CHML radio techie program last week where the electric car was discussed. It should be available on line. For a 100 kilometer trip a Tesla as well as the GM Volt will cost an owner around 3 kilowatt hrs of electricity plus delivery charges to a residential home to make the trip and the range was 100 KM with a full charge. What I got from it is it isn't any less expensive to run a car on Hydro than it is for traditional fuel. Add in the greater cost for a vehicle, cost to have your home wired to charge it, the cost of system maintenance and very expensive battery replacement as well as the limited numbers of those trained to maintain them add in the lack of charging stations an electric car is a very long way off from us seeing them in a neighbours driveway. It is a "look at me I'm Green" status symbol for the rich and famous. I am all in for being Green but it isn't in my budget for a small uncomfortable car that will never tow my boat. Certainly a long, long way from being a Rural transportation solution. -

Dave, I grew up a city boy. We had 2 types of trees, Pine trees whos leaves don't fall off and the other kind. -
Welcome Derek to OFC. Tighten your seat belt, it may be a bumpy ride. I only bought my first real fishable boat 7 years after I retired. One of the 3 best things I did in my life besides finding my true love and retiring, not necessarily in that order. I'm kidding of course, the best was buying my StarCraft. I am going to change my password now. Don't you dare rat me out M2B2.

That's the only way to start a charcoal BBQ. Coffee can full of charcoal with holes punched in the bottom once cherry red lift off the can and coals are ready on 2 minutes. Powdered Sulphur, interesting. A Blast Furnace has what is called a Tuyere which is French for nozzle and it is made of cast Copper and water cooled. The Tuyeres could be splashed by liquid Iron and burn resulting in water infusion into the furnace, not good actually very hazardous. The furnace had to be shut down to change out the Tuyere. There could be copious amounts of Hydrogen gas burning outside of the furnace opening. Sometimes we would have to wait until the gas was burnt off and we would try anything to get that Tuyere changed and put the furnace ahead at a lost time of $1000.00 or more a minute, not an hour a minute. We would use steam to snuff out the flame and even tried Nitrogen to displace 02. Never tried Sulphur powder. I think I am going to make a call tomorrow. Smitty I will propose this to the American Institution of Steel and Ironmaking and ask for 1% of lost time savings for each and every steelmaker in the world. We will give Hellen author credit. What do ya say? -

As Irish said it is a no no to burn any percentage of softwood in our wood stoves down here. No choice north because that is what they have. I cringe when I see these reality shows from the Yukon and Alaska where they cut down a pine, drag it to the cabin, cut and split it and burn it the next day. They must scrape creosote of the stack every week. SirCranks, you say you have a 66/33 mix of hardwood/softwood. Not good. Very little BTU value from the softwood and the tar content is high. It is cheap for a reason. I was on a sub forum dedicated to wood burning as a heat source (Gardenweb.com) I think they changed the site name. Kind of ridiculous to some as a site dedicated to fishing. The only time softwood might be burned would be Birch as a starter, lower in tar then most softwoods. If split correctly kindling of hardwood should be your starter. It creates the most heat in a short period of time in order to get the stack as hot as possible to support a good draught. Even copious amounts of newspaper with kindling is better than softwood to heat the stack. I went back on that Forum and looked at where the ceiling fan should be turning. Up draught in reverse is recommended as best air distribution for heat flow. Heat rises and it takes less energy to pull hot air up than to blow hot air down. Air distribution is greater in reverse than pushing down against warm air. I looked up and the fans are in reverse. I forgot to have them blow down last spring for AC. Cold dense air is pushed against the walls rises to the ceiling and then falls to the ground. There is even a chart showing the air flow for different construction designs, cathedral ceiling is different than vaulted, flat ceilings have different air flow characteristics. It shows the best positions for fans based on design and size as well as CFM requirements based on ceiling height and room size. Those guys are as nuts as us stressing over hook sizes. Smitty, you posted 4 minutes before me. So this isn't a rebuttal to your post. -

Global warming? Bring it on. Maybe not in your lifetime but the kids may be seeing Palm Trees sprouting in Lake of the Woods. Before some Millennial tree hugger PM's me and calls me a selfish Baby Boomer I am doing a laugh out loud. Them there are perfect eaters kiddo. Why not just rub it in. Have a round of golf booked for noon tomorrow!!! Whooo Rawhhhhh. Calling for 15C to 18C. With this new found energy maybe throw a line in when I get back if it isn't dark by then. Chris, Walleye are best eaten when dead. -
Been there, done that, right Art? It seems sometimes that it is impossible to have a civil, adult conversation, especially in the faceless thing called Social Media before some revert to acting like grade schoolers. Grade schoolers actually act much more civil. The sites out there that are specifically for political discussion are just for Keyboard Cowboys that appear to not have a life. Those are the people that President elect Trump described as being 300 pounds and laying in bed. Hey I snuck that one in eh! No need to apologize Cliff, I know I did though. Cliff I am unable to copy and paste, you said something like " these truly aren't the family I have come to know over these many years". It sounds like you are talking about my own Family. Times change, relationships change, the Alpha leaders change. I don't like paradigm shifts but have come to learn there is no formula to keep things the way they were, not something one can control. Change with the times or times will pass you by. Loonietoons said basically the same thing. Without new blood viewing new posts then participating this site will die, no views, no revenue, no revenue, no OFC. I wonder if there was a survey that asked who is or was T.J. Quesnel, most newer members that have only been here for a few years would even recognize the name? He was actively posting when I first joined here. I haven't seen a post from TJ for years. Times change, nothing you can do about it. If anyone wants to have a mature and civil conversation that relates to this past US election or other political issues we can via PM I would think. We could invite others to "join the conversation" on a PM. If someone acts up we can just lock them out rather than locking the entire dialogue. Is that a doable thing Art?

Cliff, how are you adjusting to the new place not on the water? We have started talking about getting away from the lake and all it's bad weather plus taking advantage of the ridiculous prices waterfront is bringing today. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't look out the window and see right across to NY and watch all the waterfowl and the odd Eagle cruising around.

Good information Smitty. I hereby qualify you as a Solid Carbon Combustion Technician. We have a 16 foot vaulted ceiling here. Do you have the ceiling fan blowing "down" or do you have it reversed to draught "up" ? I lost many a good nights sleep over it many years ago when I built the place and have since come to an opinion as to which is best. My opinion? it doesn't matter. As long as you get an air flow up or down it is a mute point. We have it blowing down as it takes less kinetic energy pushing it down than pulling air up. I think? Pick one. -
