If that transcribed that way it is written, you my friend are the luckiest fisherman I have ever known! That spot must be an esox magnet and the fish were on fire. Cool story!

I can see bass eating that lure, looks like you can walk the dog with it. Gimmicky as it is.

Nice work! Congrats!!! That area looks very familiar... I've spent a lot of hours out there and still haven't netted my 50. Well done! I heard yesterday was a crazy day on the water everywhere. Something about that kind of early summer weather pattern that gets animals revved up I guess. Got that big girl to eat!

What would you do if you won the lottery? Maybe NF
JoshS replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
I'd buy properties on Georgian Bay, LOTW, maybe something with boat parking close to st clair, something by the larry and a villa down south with fantastic marlin, tarpon, and whatever else bites down there fishing. Maybe purchase that really expensive ranger or two amongst a few other toys. I'd learn how to invest like a pro and spend a ton of hours on the water! -
Nice breakdown of the spring adventures. Sweet job on the rig as well.

Nice one!! Got me itching to get out there...

There's lots of plastic totes available that work. Find the size that works for your collection or what you generally need for a day and make compartments. The downspout is a popular solution that works. Cheaper than buying a musky box. If you use a bucket...install a wide pvc pipe in the middle of the bucket so you have another area to hang baits and eliminate the wasted the space.

No Bluegill/ Panfish in an Ontario lake? Is this possible?
JoshS replied to wask's topic in General Discussion
The region the lake is doesn't determine what fish are in it. It's very possible there are none of those species in the lake... unless it's directly connected to the trent. You can't make assumptions. Call your MNR office or try the fishonline tool. -
Match your leader to the lures you're throwing. I tie 50lb flouro leaders for smaller baits and use my musky leaders for throwing bigger lures. Keep an eye on your leaders and replace as necessary. I've only lost one fish on 50lb and it was a beat up leader. I'd stay at 50lb or larger. 20lb is risking it.

I think they are all pretty good in terms of quality lenses and seeing in the water. Definitely make your decision based on comfort and warranty service. Especially is you are going with a "premium" pair. Nothing worse than pressure on your temples, fogging, slipping, hat hitting sunglasses, or bad service. I have cheap pairs and a pair of hobies which are super comfortable, but the finish on the frames isn't holding up after 3 years. Also have a pair of carrera's. I've put those up against oakleys and a few others and all performed around the same seeing in the water.

Just did some research on the deflin alligators. Looks like they are back and distributed by KTL Canada. http://www.delfin-fishing.com/store/new_where_to_buy Fishing world and natural sports in kitchener are the closest retailers to the GTA that carry them FYI

I pressure wash it. Works fine. Even use the do it yourself carwash soap dispenser, then wash it out with the pressure washer function. Just don't put the nozzle to close or you'll have a nice permanent indentation!

Good for you. I've been thinking long and hard about the move away too. Nothing worse than snailing through GTA traffic on route to the lake. My lady is in social work so will be tough for her to find good work but it is out there. Friends and family can come visit on the weekends. Now to find the right venture to be self employed...

The hooked fish were suspended about half way down. Did see some lazier fish on the fish finder come up to my bait off bottom, not sure if they were perch or bows.

If nothing shows up, it's either not there or you might need to play with the settings. Even with basic stocked settings you can see trees and stumps easily. Get a feel for it scanning dock posts.

Dialed in! Nice work.

I love SI for mapping out structure and throwing down way points then going back over them with the trolling motor. It's amazing for that. You can clearly see structure and drop your waypoints on the best looking part. Then you have it all mapped out for your casting run. Much more effective and faster than mapping structure while you're going over it with a down beam. Guess it depends on your fishing style though. Might not be as useful for some. Hard for me for me to trust marking fish on it as well, but I hear from others that it can be useful for that too.

Well happy to report we got some fish, not a lot, but cracked my first inland bow on the ice. The rainbows in the lake average 12"-14" or so. There are older year classes but that seems to be the average. Adempsy, don't trust that map. We drilled a bunch of holes in the west basin and depths are similar to the main basin. We ended up targeting the west and fish came in 11ft on minnows. Didn't have luck on other baits but jigging small spoons did seem to get some interest on the fish finder. There are perch in there too.

Nice work!! -
Awesome thanks for the tips guys. And the map adempsy! If anything exciting happens I'll let you know. How do you guys setup your set lines? And what's the best method using the tree branch? I used to do this with pike and a spool of line, but not sure the best way do to so with the speedy rainbow and light line.

JB's usually has them too. I ordered mine from luremaking.com

Yeah the science behind the video is sketchy. It could very well be accurate though. Lots of variables need to be explored -maybe it's the cotton, the environment, the brooktrout, etc. But the video's message stays the same. I've seen way too many poor releases where you know the fish is toast.
