Welcome aboard. Make sure you bring ropes and lots of garbage bag to tie up garbages and uneaten food. The worst thing that could happen is have the raccoons eat all your food on the first night ... i've seen them during the day as well so be prepared. Also bring some warm clothes, even though it's 30 degrees in the afternoon it can still get cool at night. As far as fishing goes i have never tried there but tubes should be good with the smallmouth there. Have fun!

congrats on the new PB cliff!! i was in the chat with Bly when you called lol! so 10lber are little guys to you now eh !

i remember Cliff tried doing that in the beginning when he couldn't figure out what to do with the hair rig ... and he was quite successful with the catching as well ... do you use a stopper at the end of the hair rig?

One more Nip Callander Report with Great Story
Victor replied to love2fishhave2work's topic in General Discussion
that's a crazy story lol !! glad that you got ur rod back and that 7-8lb pike! learned a new tactic today haha ... if fishing gets slow, leave your rod down with ur lure in the water. lets see some pics now -
if you are talking about the post regarding ccmt's 2000th post mark ... i see it as a recognition of cliff's contribution to OFC and IMO he well deserves it. for the years i have been on this board i have seldom noticed members questioning others' post counts with the exception of a new member asking a question or help with fishing locations on their first post without some sort of intro. I dont' read every single thread but that's what i have noticed. Victor

hey bill. if you are fishing the hammy, it wouldn't be a good idea to use canned corn with all the gobies in the water ... they would strip the soft corn off your hook. I have never tried the store-bought bollies but they seem to work for cliff (ccmt). IMO it would be quite costly to chum out bollies since you'll need alot of it, you're probably better off buying 2-3 cans of canned corn and use that as chum. the gobies will still end up eating some of but at least your hookbait would be safe and it would be the easiest solution given that you're planning on going out tomorrow. Each time you chum, about 1/3 to half a can of corn would do it ... and repeat every half an hour or so to keep them in the area. It was quite difficult for me to throw out the canned corn with my bare hands back then ... if you don't have any equipment, try to find a small gardening shovel and it helps alittle bit in terms of distance. Try to cast your hookbait to the chum pile and hang on to your rod / set the drag to very loose. i can't really help in terms of location for that area as i've only fished it once ... but i'm sure there are a few OFC carpers from that area who can help you out ... with the haig rig, you should be all set ... good sized fish come out of hammy on a regularly basis so just make sure u stay close to your rod Good luck and if you got more questions let us know.

it'll get better from here once they start eating i took my dad carp fishing for the first time and he outfished me ... well i got him setup first and he started catching before i got myself setup ... so that's my excuse too
-
congrats on your wife's first carp and your PB as well! man... her first fish ever beats my PB lol! thanks for sharing!
-
yeah i noticed you didn't really like to handle them from last week's report where you took a picture with the fish in the net ... guess what you have to buy now MJL? gloves for ur dad so he can be ready to take a picture with his 40lber in the near future i also love those action shots ... took quite a few on saturday ... especially with these long rods it's just so cool
-
gee ... thanks for posting that up... i obviously didn't want anyone to know haha i am just kidding. He did outfish me in the morning but i think i caught up in the afternoon when things got slower. Maybe he still ended up catching more but as long as he had fun on his first time it's all that matters to me. It was nice meeting you and i had a great time too. I'm thinking of convincing my dad for another trip on fathers' day (he also likes rock climbing so i don't know which one he would like to do more) ... what do you say?
-
i shall keep that in mind and fish as much as i can while i'm still single lol ... o yeah, and buy as much gear as well =D

Made plans with MJL and took my dad carp fishing for the first time on saturday. MJL has already got the details in his report but we didn't really get to fish together ... our swims are about 100m apart ... so here's what happened on my side ... shortly after we got setup ... my dad's alarm went off and he's into his first ever carp/first fish of the day ... i was busy tying up aonther rig and he told me that the fish is running away from the direction of my line so i haven't retrieved my line back yet ... 2 seconds later ... my alarm went off ... i was really excited since we got a double header right after we got there ... our lines started going towards each other and i thought "o xxxx, i should have retrieved it right after he got a fish on" ... ... we finally got her out of the water without too much trouble and guess what we saw?? if you look closely, there are two hair rigs and they are both hooked on the inside of the lower lip my dad had a blast ... his previous PB (in terms of weight) was a 2lb largemouth ... here's a fat 15lber this pic is quite similar to yours Mike my "end result" is smaller though ... but still alot of fun .. these fish are lean and strong it took a while for my dad to get used to the long rods but he got quite good at it after a few fish just gotta love that rod-bend here's another view of the double header "kiss action" all in all we banked 12 fish together in the 12-18lb range and lost 8-9 (yes it is a ridiculous number and i still haven't figured out what's wrong ... will probably try a different leader material) I also had the pleasure to meet quite a few other carp anglers ... they're all very nice and helpful. lastly ... wolfville, this picture is just for you ... the cute little ducklings are hungry and they need to be fed. I think feeding them is more important than work

At my local swim in Waterloo, i have only seen them jump; i have actually never seen one cruise around (probably because it is really shallow near shore) so i wouldn't be able to comment on the spawing activity with respect to the feeding. However, Randy said exactly what's on my mind about the catching part ... i can be catching a few in 2 hours one week, and then get skunked for 2 trips the week after. (with the same bait, same location, and almost same time of the day). It is not easy at all ... you have no idea how many days i have spent just sitting there staring at my line lol. you are in big trouble Randy ... you spelled "carp" wrong!! ... man you're gonna get skunked all week haha
-
you should have taken a pic with your dad ... did u guys get into any double headers? i'll post up my report alittle later tonight when i go back to Waterloo. thanks for posting the pics
-
nice fish! .. maybe next time you should put on your swim gear before you go carping
-
Amazing report cliff! i've always enjoyed ur reports especially during class time It's pretty cool how you & bly landed that fish 'together'. Luckily it wasn't a huge one... or else we probably won't see one of you two on OFC anymore (who loses the fight to claim the PB haha). catching fish 2 out of 3 outing is really good ... besides the 2nd day wasn't really a skunk anyways lol ... looking back at my "fishing log" i get skunked 2 out of 3 times LOL! I still have a long way to go before i can be named as one of the "veteran carpers" ... if anything, i blame MJL for my addiction. don't forget who's the one that made you want to visit those cute little duckies.
-
that was his first fish? man he was fighting it like a pro! congrats!!
-
i wonder what's going to happen to all the carp anglers if corn/maized's banned ... not that there aren't other options ... but i'm sure alot of people would agree that it is one of the best bait on the hair rig
-
wicked fish steve!! i have yet to land a mirror as well ... christening your combo with your 4th mirror, that setup's gotta be special did it fight harder than the usual common? the one greg got is a beauty too
