  1. UrbanAngler, I really feel for you and your mother over this ....its a heartbreak. If the funeral is slated for tommorrow as you have said....One person wrote.. "Funerals are a celebration for the living that loved such a .." IMHO....I'd let the funeral proceed as planned and attend with heads held very high because of the true love and closeness felt. I would not under any circumstance do anything that would show anything other then the sorrow that should show and the respects due. As for effects and belongings that were part/portion of your mothers and commnlaw husband .. If for any reason there is cause for alarm over ownership a lawyer will be required at that time but be aware... The lawyer will cost you more then what your after eventually........ You must be strong for your Mom...... Its B.S to think this...but it can become a nightmare if there is concern over other relatives taking items they are not entitled to.....Ive seen it first hand. Everything that is your Mothers and step-Fathers must be made note/inventory of. Have it notarized....... I believe you will then have some capacity within the law at this point if there is a dispute...unless there is a will already in place. As far as the funeral........you said it was for monday..... Let it go...and celebrate that mans life together with your Mom....with his brother(s) UrbanAngler........May angles look over both you and your Mom at this time. Bud...this is only an opinion of what I would do. I wouldnt want or wish any trouble or conflict at this time...just peace and a decent funeral to lay rest. ITEMS........can always be replaced.. bNb
  2. oh yeah, Trenton to Picton VIA 33 or across the BayBridge in Belleville are wide open for sure.
  3. 'mornin Bud! In yesterdays local rag...'The Quinte Shield' The front page showed the arrest of several Mohawk protesters at Deseronto. Julian Fantino just 3-4 days prior stated he would no longer put up with the blockades and clear both Deseronto and Caledonia. Shawn Brant..(Mohawk protester extreme) was re-arrested after only being out of jail a couple of weeks for the same thing about 12 months back. He was charged with weapons dangerous, pointing a firearm, assault police and resisting arrest. His brother was also charged, first offence, weapons dangerous, using a vehicle as a weapon, assault police and possession of a forbidden substance...........as well, several other protesters were also arrested. Lew, as I understand it, the ones who are being arrested all the time and causing these roadblocks are not a true representation of the Mohawks of the Tyendinega reserve but just rebel rousers. No one is trying to take there land away or trespass.....There are several businesses on the rz that depend on outside customer volume and I travel into the rez regularly Bud, for smokes and gas at $1.08/ltr. There were a few times that it was tough /impossible to get in but have had no probs lately.
  4. As johnnybass said.......Im quite sure others know more then me. Urban angler......... First of all......My condolences to both you and your mother. Young fella......hopefully there was a will made out where these plans were made previously...check into this when you feel up to it. There is not much you can do when the 'Family' steps in if there isnt a will that is known. What line of work was he in...in my line (it was a union)...you had to keep an updated beneficiary card in case of something just like this and it should unfold as such. Too early to say these things but it is a reality....For your mother, can you check to see if his place of employment has a coverage and exactly what he had destined to certain folk as far as just this instance....it could look after your dilema. If your stepDad and your mom were together after a acertained length of time she willl be automatically be deemed the person to look after all arangements I believe...again..others will certainly chime in about this. I feel for you Bud...and your mother too. Times like this should not be about this type of aggravation but one of looking after those that cared and loved. Legal steps must be observed.......check into the place of employment first then for sure a lawyer if you feel that your mother is getting pushed around..............who the freak would push around loved ones at a time like this.... Buddy..........I wish you nothing but the best...your mom too PM me anytime if you just need someone to talk to....I'll be here for you for sure.
  5. I've always been a dog owner since I was a pup........ My wife the same as are all our children...we love dogs! Every now and then you either own or come across a dog that is a barker. Currently and for the last 6 years we've been proud owners to a 90lb Black Lab/Rotty cross. Our property..(Not near as big as some)...is an an acre without fences, a river on one side and a highway on the opposite side. We get along with all the neighbours for the most part as folks do.....but there was a time I had to have words with one that is immediately beside us. This neighbour would and still does throw our dog BBQ leftovers everytime he BBQs.....you'd figure my dog would love him silly. Because of that one day I had words with the neighbour....... Our dog agressively barks at him for about 10 seconds every freaking day....then stops. The neighbour and I laugh about it..and he laughs at the dog for doing it but he wont step onto our property anymore either unless I have walked him onto it myself. I figure my dog is doing his job...WELL! He is also allowed to roam our property and also never leaves it at anytime..... The dog is brought in every night tho.....sleeps on the floor on my side of the bed....but, is certainly my wifes dog and protector. The neighbour would never come to our property again if just my wife is outside..I like this too! Funny thing tho....the dog will not/does not bark at the neighbours wife or visiting older kids of theirs...lol. For your problem...if youve already spoken to the neighbours without success. You best start my calling the by-law officer first.... 'Squeaky wheel" gets the grease they say. I'd deff. stay away from feeding their dog anything including treats or anything else if the dogs owner is not there to see it...PERIOD. I'd do more then bark at you if you did.
  6. tBayBoy. Lexx asked...'How big is Quinte" Depends on what you refer Quinte as. BayOfQuinte....Trenton to east of Belleville the Narrows...east as far as Napanee Then youve got Big and Hay Bays Out of Picton area it is the Adolphus Reach..NOT the BOQ. More info on where to find fish contact either Sam at Carras or Ron at Skevy's...you cant get better info. As for fishing line, I use these setups: Riggers....... #12 Fireline Crystal (w/#8 Flouro) Planers....... #14 Trilene XL (w/#8 Flouro) Spinning .... #10 Trilene XL (Tied Direct) Everybody is different.....my info came from the local outfitters on the BOQ proper ....not on or from the Adolphus Reach (Picton area)
  7. Just recieved a large order of bait parts last week. www.staminainc.com They deff. have what your looking for.
  8. ...shoulda just pulled out the gun and shot them all I say..... JUST KIDDING BRO' That is one reason I dont fish the tribs much anymore...well, that and location. It is somewhat of a P'off........if you know the crowd tho' and they'll let you into the drift its not to bad but personally Bud.. Just cant do that anymore. I fished my local trib for near 30yrs.........its still not to bad as long as your south of the golf course... Oh Oh...gave that one away.... Sorry to hear about the rod.....is it gauranteed? It was the rod Huh?..not a road?
  9. Youze missed my point...... Or/probably I misstated it. I'm all for FishingAutographs for sticking his face in where it should have been..for us and all the industry/environment. Im against the drastic measure done.....Why not a warning first is all Im saying. Being a cop he could easily check later to see if his words were taken seriously and then go the full route. Ive been out on the water and seen folk trolling and casting at he same time and have driven right up to them and stated the regs. I didnt report them.....But.... I also kept my eye out for them the rest of the day to make sure they complied.... If not the call to the MNR would have been surely made...and I also let them know that. As for being thrown into the water 'fireball'.......well, crap happens. You only react when it happens as to what one would do...but I doubt very much Id call the police over it and I have nothing to fear from the police personally. Kudo's to you F'atographs...from me on what you did. I just dont agree with not giving a warning first.....UNLESS, ..these guys were outright poachers (Not un-educated folk).everyone knows the difference between the two. I dunno....maybe I just dont like the signature refferral about the firefighters. I am all for the regs tho' and seeing that they are enforced..its for a reason/many.
  10. ..........look out...Barney Fife is on the loose. Dont like cops...sorry...well, most. fNaGraphs.....I ran into a similar situation about 3 weeks back just down river from me. Drove right by it..... After a mile or so I turned around a went back. I got out of the truck and approached them (5-6) and asked the same question as you did. When they replied pretty much with the 'Anything that Bites) response I simply told them what they stood to lose if caught and that I really objected them fishing so close to my home for OOS fish. These fellars had no idea of the regs even tho licensed..(I did ask if they had one each) They were from the city.....lol...But, were very polite and seemed genuinely concerned with what was told them so I directed them to an area below the first lock where they could fish trout legally and even what bait was best. Their response was one of thanks...and away they went happily. Ignorance is no excuse but sometimes a little education goes along way. I also happen to think that Firefighters are THEE Heroes.....and although different, Doctors too.
  11. Ive installed 2 black-lights on my boat for this. Just hooked it up to the accessory terminal..as for temporary, Im sure you could get battery operated.
  12. Very Good Point indeed. You'll not like hearing this but 100% of the homes on our stretch of the Trent are on septic system that run from the rear of our homes toward the water. Most homes are too close to the water..25-50' My place has 120' before water and the septic drain field ends approx 80' before. Most do not but, I have my holding tank pumped twice yearly but the problem I encountered was in the drain field where one line ruptured due to a large tree root. I severed the line completely at the source and ran 2 additional lines around the 'Now Removed" tree root. My wish to not have anyone from the town around is due to the mere fact that you are not permitted to repair this yourself...It must be done only by the LowerTrentConservationAuthority's septic contractors and would have called for a complete removal of all lines and a new bed installed at my cost. It works perfectly. I had to install a fence/screen to hide the fresh backfill from view from the street however to keep nosey town workers etc..from seeing anything out of the normal.....specially with the recent river flooding. Hardly the same money tho.
  13. Good Question j-b..... Never had the chance to bring mine in last year before the quick/sudden IceIn,,,,and there it stayed all winter long only to be badly damaged by the iceOut. Had 'er tied to a tree attached to an eye bolt at the end of the dock so it wouldnt be washed away. Right now it is still on my property but under about 2-3' of water. This year Ill be re-building it. It was 32' in length....(2 - 16' sections) I have only spoken with a few of the neighbours.......they have reccommended going to the town hall to inquire as to legal length. Im going to avoid this as it could lead to scrutiny over my septic.....dont want them looking to closely. One thing for sure.......Ill only build it in 8' sections tho..(stronger/less movement), and then attach them together with quick release bolts. 16' would be ample for my tinny..(the big boat will be at a dedicated slip on the BOQ) I think most likely Ill be going w/3 - 8' sections for 24'....because of the way the shore line goes Ill still be in-line w/the neighbours as far as projection into the water. Im sorry but do not know the legal limit. I would think as long as it doesnt interefere with other boaters or someones view it would suffice. bNb
  14. I know exactly what you are going through....this sucks. Dave, You have my families prayers and heart felt best wishes..your mother and your family too.
  15. I fully agree....and when I have located one there is usually 2-3 talking amongst themselves. I suppose its because when I go there its an off weekday and not a busy weekend when theyre on their toes helping out. I do not like to be 'Salesmanned" to death either..pretty much know what I want when I go in. lol...Dont like their products either.....lol ...trying to figure why i even go now...Oh yeah...saw it advertised or for the most part..OR, My locals just didnt carrry the stock needed. Nothing but great things to say about Roger tho..a real treat to run into..... There used to be an exellent reel counter sales guy there who used to frequent this board a while back. That would be 2jack2..(Jackie)..he really knew his reels. One thing I like about BPS is that you can shop for multiple areas of need....even if you have to spend a little more. Ive always loved onestop shopping...just like X-mas! Edit: Ive only ever purchased NameBrand....Shimano RodsNReels/St.Croix/Rapala etc...
  16. LowProfile/HighProFile..........??????????? Much depends on the line # and the lure you are using as well the intended target. In my household.. Anything over 12lb test begets a baitcaster. Again it all comes down to your application reason..the target..and choice of lure and.. fishing technique..........ie(trolling/downrigging/planerboard/flatlining/casting) Others will give you more info to add to this.. Best of Luck. bNb
  17. Sweet looking NEW BOAT Bud! I bet your on it all day today...even if its the carport. Mines been parked on the front lawn for a month now and every weekend Im on it figuring things out or adding items. WTG...heres to many enjoyable and successful outings.
  18. Just got back!.... Did a lil' haggling.....ya gotta. Spent $240.........Two Hundred and Fourty Dollars. I Cannon Electric Downrigger..(Approx 40")...maybe 5yrs old. 1 Cannon Manual Downrigger..(Approx 36")...maybe 5yrs old 2 Trolling Rods Both 8'-6" ..(Used 1season) 2 Okuma Convector LC Reels (used 1season) 1 UNIDEN VHF Radio W/8'Whip (maybe 10yrs old) Probably 20 handtied bucktail Jigs...never used. Black, Orange, Yellow, White, and Skunk in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 oz weights...and a few 1/8oz in multi colour. This was from an older couple who just decided their fishing days were over.. They also had two Bowriders for sale and a couple of 18/20hp motors...theyve stilll near 50 rod/reel combo's left but all in spincasting selling for 2-5$ each...everything looks newish. There wasnt much of any other larger items left I might have picked up for some folk here...everything was selling fast. Start of a great day I'd say.!
  19. WTG man......... Those are exellent photo's....they'll be keepsakes quicker then you realize. I miss them days with my boys just looking at your photos...thanks for that! When I fish with my boys now Im generally the passenger/netman..lol
  20. I know what ya mean bud. Had the wife with me yesterday at B-Pro picking up new rods holders...one of those foils to bring you to plain smoother...(so it states) and a few other items...going to be hard to justify today. J/K..shes as excited as me about getting underway for the new season....maybe more.
  21. 4reel...I didnt get you wrong Bud! Not at all...and you raise some very valid points. But, 5 of my 6 children have all grown and moved to their own places now and the last will be most likely be gone shortly so it is just the wife an I. My wife an I are both from the eastcoast...(NovaScotia) She hails from the water on the north coast and me from the water on the south east coast. Both of us from waterfront to waterfront.....and a somewhat more child friendly neighbourhood we lived in between that period whilst the kiddos were growing up until 2 yrs ago. Lew said it very well and completely I felt in his reply above your recent one. No offence taken and none given....well, maybe a slight jab about the mountain/steel plant....lol
  22. Could it posibly be true? Just got back from town to get a 'timmies' and passed 2 monumental sized placard signs advertising for a yard sale this morning. Underneath YardSale it read...'Fishing Tackle/Equipment' Thats all it said besides the address and date time. Its straight down Hwy33 to the underpass and then a left at....NOPE..Cant let ya know, sorry. Going to get some brekky in me after a shower and then off to then ATM a be first in line... I hope! I'll let ya's know what it was all about later.
  23. Lol....I love happy endings. Today I was going to be doing just this myself.....now I knows what to look out for. I thankya'll too!
  24. Clive's his name and.... Pike..ing is his game! kinBud...that indeed was our Mepps! I'll let hiself fill in the rest of the info for what your require. If he doesnt see the post again, try PM-ing him.
  25. Well,........ I am 6'-3", 160lb of skin an bone..(Strong like bulll tho) .......and I most likely could eat 5 hamburgers in one sitting W/Salad on the side. Seriously tho, exellent post about things I needed to know. ThankYou.
