  1. No Offence Gerrit... But like you, there are times where I'd welcome the chance to put YOUR size 13 boots to work but in this case..... I think I'd really put this to rest and rather sense that something doesnt really ad up here at all. Believe me Gerritt...Ive seen a mite more then you Bud..however my first reaction would be something like your'N Burger guy.......something you aint telling us bud????? If your straight up...... You best start choosing your passengers a lil better to be sure....or the company you keep. Sounds like everyone was on serious drugs to me....... If not.. Then a medical situation at least....WOW..that was insane Everyone is supposed to be grown past them stages.
  2. Great report David..very encouraging and info filled to boot. This past monday evening I tied about 1/2 doz spinners with the new Mustad. I casted a few off the back dock to check them out and the action is so completely diff then the norm...Im thinking it'll be a great product...can barely wait for the weekend to try 'er out for some eyes. Thanks again for a great report.
  3. Ive got a question for them that knows. If you've got quite the distance to travel on water and then the return trip....how often do you run the bilge pump and when do you know when its required????? I was out yesterday and on my return portion of the trip found the steering hard on the right and comming off plane was a little scary. I ran the bilge pump and it peed out for almost 15min straight at full force like a garden hose. Once empty..or close as you want, everything ran well as it should again.
  4. Exellent replies folks. MuskyMike...you got that right...the rods/reels were in no particular order. I just threw this list out from the magazine for the new to musky fishing folk..just to let them know there are many combos out there...sure there is a lot of favouritism from advertising..that s a given. I believe it was Raf who said it all comes down to personal preferrence..Thats 100% correct. Myself. 2 Calcutta TE's 401 both seated on Compre's...(bucktail/jerkbait).#80/100PP w/130 seagur. Abu 7000 on a St.Croix legend...(for trolling)..Berkley fireline crystal w/130 seagur 2 Abu c-3's 6501 on Compre's...(everyday search an destroy)..they were my first...#65 PP w/steel leaders. I know many others with easily twice as many combos...but most all are for different applications and waters or bait size... Im OK with what I have as I dont get out nearly as much as I'd liike to therefore my arsenal is ample. ps...(I keep the 6501's out and maintained for guests aboard....ahahaha? dont toucha my calcutta's)
  5. This lineup of equipment was put together by guides from all over. It was a poll that was taken then broken down by a select group of pro's. There is actually a writeup on each combo and what its uses are better for and for what conditions...its pretty decent informatiopn that may be available at : www.In-Fisherman.com Same amount of info on the line, also the good and bad about each but how this particular lineup made the top. The 2008 M/P guide edition of their magazine is a decent read about new trends in trolling/casting/WTD etc... I dont subscribe to the mag...but couldnt resist buying it off the shelf.
  6. This in 'In-Fisherman's 2008 Pike and Musky Guide. Big Ticket Combo's 1) DAIWA VIP rod ...w/DAIWA Luna reel 2) Fenwick Techna rod ...w/AbuGarcia 6600EXT 3) Thorne Bros. rod...w/Penn's 965 International 4) Quantum PT Superlite...w/Quantum Cabo PT 5) Shimano Compre...w/Calcutta TE....(is what Ive got...2 of them) 6) St.Croix Legend Tournament...w/St.Croix's Avid Series AC300A 7) G.Loomis ...w/AbuGarcia 7000 Syncro...(got the reel anyway) Superlines/Braids 1) Berkley Fireline Crystal and Big Game Braid 2) Cajun Master Braid 3) Spectron Musky Master 4) P-Line Spectrex IV 5) PowerPro 6) Rapala Titanium Braid 7) SpiderWire Ultracast Invisi Braid 8) Spiderwire Stealth 9) Suffix Performance 10) Suffix Neon Fluorencent Frie braid 11) Tuff-Line XP This from the pros at In-Fisherman. Whatcha all think? Pretty close I think........but I also think its a matter of personal preference from use of. Money is never an issue when your talking about your PRIVATE arsenal of musky equipment in this household or anyone elses I know that fishes these 'lunge with the same passion. Just curious to what ya'll think.
  7. Thanks for the offer Bud. I'll shoot ya a PM tommorrow...Off to bed right now. pete
  8. 6 cruisers......Hmmmmmmm?????? FishN....had you run the guys plates for priors?..or had the police on the cell check them out? Im thinking it was just because a fellow officer was making the cell phone call whilst off duty and knew there was an arrest to go down eventually....(Alleged) I cant see why there would be that many ON DUTY officers involved for a single impaired with no signs of violence that was mentioned...or threatening of any sort...granted..impaired is a threat to everyone BIGTIME. Another,...you slowed down to 120 ........Ive never been able to say I was going with the flow of traffic. Its like saying if 20 fellas in front of you walked off the end of the cliff to their deaths when the sign clearly stated DANGER-Steep Cliff....why or would you follow them...THAT DOES NOT WASH ANYWHERE. The law is the Law is the Law......Correct???? or NO? Still dont like the comment on firefighters in your signature but...... What you did was beyond your days work..or as you said...a long days shift and for that I applaud your actions. -pete
  9. I'm thinking 'Line Twist" You said you get birds nests....I'll assume that your using a baitcaster then ? It matters big time if for spinning reels vs baitcasters and line poundage on how you spool on line.
  10. Hey Moira....I'm just one river over from you.......the Trent. ( My avatar is the dock out back of our property) Keep in mind that bass is OOS for another 5-6 weeks and also that after the winter we just went through , complicated with the flooding, that almost all species are near a month behind on their normal habitats in our area. Ive just noticed in the past few days the population of minnows at our dock and they should have been visible some 4-5 weeks ago. The Crayfish havent even shown themselves yet...normally there should be 100's close in around the rocks. Last year the carp were rolling, breaking water too, about 4-5 weeks earlier as well last year........I have seen pike right at our dock tho....(this year) .....figure it may be just because of the warmer water there at mid-day and they are suning themselves. Give it a litle time and they'll show up....... Please, dont you be one of them fellas fishing OOS Smallies within eye sight of my place....Im really getting PO'd with them guys... I now have the MNR's CO for our area on speed dial. Keep at it..for IN-season fish and your sure to get a hit....just a mite later this year 'round these parts. bNb
  11. wow.just saw this post was still around. We did 'er.did it just fine. Turns out that the previous owner had done some renovating in the crawlspace. There were 2 complete lengths of pipe from the toilet/shower/sink area running to the septic. One pipe was copper/3" and the other PVC. The PVC was the new one and the copper was never capped off never mind being removed. It had been stuffed with pink insulation and when ever we flushed the stuff would travel down the PVC and then back up out the copper as it was an easier route then straight out into the holding tank. I called in a plumber and he had some suggestions but wouldnt do it himself because of the mess. As suggested....the plugged up connection was at the bend exiting the house to the tank but it was plugged back about 6 feet up the PVC. I cut into the PVC with my sawsall until I found where the plugup started....Snaked the thing clean then ran a hose through it. After some PVC connection repair I then removed the old copper and capped off the remaining 12" at the connection. Got 28' of 3" copper for my efforts. I then began the process of cleaning out the basement/crawlspace.. Pumped it all into the septic over a 3 day period...shovelled all debris on the floor and scrubbed her down good. I laid out some lime AND bleached everything. All the water works as it should now......heck, we even have better waterpressure it seems as well as an extremely quick flush. Thanks for everyones help on this..it truly helped. I got busy with the boat right after and havent looked back til I saw this post up again so,...thanks again everyone.
  12. Thanks for the well wishes guys.....really wanted to get back out again the next day but winds were gusting large and there weere white caps on the bay. Im not ready for them big waves yet. Today.well thats a different story.soon as Im done at the office were heading backout about 1pm and see about getting serious about them walleye.
  13. Call it what you want..... Some might think it belongs as a P.M. but, ..If nothing is ever said not a soul will ever know about it. So I want everyone to know. Will......(a.k.a. fishnsled) on the board here, is one of the many decent folk that frequent this board. If your an avid OFC'r you'll have most likely read about him assisting someone or another at least once a week through there reports. 'fishnsled', offered to assist me with my first launch in the new boat to make sure everything went Tickety-Boo.......keep in mind that I live about 5 km from the bayofQuinte and he is Toronto some 170km from my place. I didnt want to drag him all the way out here on the long weekend just for a launch ..my first...besides, I was supposed to have everything ready for his visit the week before. I'm a 'greencoachdog' fan and enjoyMOST all his posts on 'LAUNCH IDIOTS/CLOWNS'..but, just the same ..had to do it myself...no fear here of in-capability..just do'er I say...ya gotta get over the fear. The launch was busy and nerves were a mite tense..but knew it had to be done. Charmaine and I had the boat in the water on the first attempt, truck parked and lines out in less the fifteen minutes looking for walleye.....was still wondering what bringing the boat out of the water would be like under longweekend launch traffic, anyway... Few things came to mind..Ive read and read about most all issues that could come into play but there was still a little mild panic of not really knowing what had to be done. A cell phone call to 'fishnsled', .."OK pete, you dont have to run your bilge pump motor whilst out in the water.it wont sink". Another call to 'fishnsled', "dont worry pete, thats the pisser spraying water from the back of the motor" Another call to 'fishnsled'..(this time I spoke...OK Will..we got'er done Bud...many, many thanks" Trailering out from the water was smooth...first attempt. Tied off the boat at the dock..got the truck and reversed just past the bunks to soak them and pulled out a 'lil...got in boat and rev'd 'er and then shut off the motor and she glided up the trailer about half way. Over the truck and climbed onto the trailer , winched 'er in...pulled out and released the plug. Secured the transom ties, hooked up he electric/chains and off we drove... It was like we've been doing it for years ...a real treat. Got to say that it would never have happened with that much ease if not for a couple of exellent guys here on this board........ well,..at least that quickly anyway. Thanks Will....thank you very much..... .We'll be 'lunging Balsam again this fall together but with both our boats...more area will be covered on the drift when were trolling side by each. BTW> 1/2 dozen OOS LM were caught and quickly released and (2), 2-3lb'rs wallice for the pan. Ive got the pics but no way to put them on here....sorry, we've the worst provider out here but the only one for the area at this time. Did I mention that $75 in fuel was put into the boat and it didnt fill it....good note tho, 4-5 hrs trolling the Bay and the fuel gauge did not move at all. (yes it works) Hoping everyone has a successful and safe fishing season this year 2008. - brickNblock.
  14. Actually..Gagnon's is one of the best priced places going. Dont get me wrong...I love my time at BPS and my old regular..'Tightlines' in Pickering but Gagnon's..... Jason..the young guy...he's the heir apparent and he'll deff. give you the deal of the day. Brian in electronics there really knows all the stuff and if you can find a better price anywhwre they will undercut it..by pennies..just the same..it'll cost less for your repeat bizz. That is what its all about tho.....repeat bizzzzz...for the small market or none BPS anyway. This year I put in my wish list to Gagnon's and they gave me a price that beat everyone elses.... You want to know why...because they know me...not personally but as a reg. customer and fisherman. They did their own research of the competition and gave me a block price on what I wanted far below the comp...(cuz they knew I would research it) Sometimes its far better to go to the small guy ....OFTEN. Gagnon's got just over $3500 in biz from me this year alone...prob saved me about $600 Another place I frequent often partly because of location...is Skevy's in Belleville....Why? The same reasons.... On any given day you can walk in there and see Keith, Gary ...Italo etc.. Again why?....because they have what it takes.....They know their stuff and will better then price match.....Again..its because you frequent their bizz. If its happening on the BoQ these foks know....and they have the fishermen in there every morning to prove it. Good friend of mine off this board gave me a low down on some electronics from Radio World.... Not going to mention his name 'cept he dont smile in pics often... Gagnon's beat their price hands down... I think you have to get out there and actually spend some time with certain bizz's ..and cha-ching. BPS IMHO has a great reel department...... Jackie..(2Jack2) was one of the best.....I believe he is now manager of that dept. Still, if he isnt there...service can be difficult and prices are as listed. I think you have to spend the time with the retailers....same as spending the time on here... its all for info on the sport we love.
  15. Kyle... Just curious Bud........What is it you do for a living that would keep you in GrandePrairie? I've my oldest son working/living there too..it'll be 2 yrs this comming September. I've also a brother who works there about 6months a year then back home to Pickering. -peter
  16. You couldnt possibly have said it any better Brother... 100% I'm with ya on this one.
  17. From these post replies and from just keeping my eye on what going on in the stores that supply. There is deff., a huge day to day FLuctuation of nearly $20-45 on the same battery depending on where you buy. Sears is great for the return policy but CTC to me has the best overall prices on their NAUTILUS series... I got the Nautilus in the huge reserve model (oversized) Budget/Battery and Compartment size???.....its what you have to look at. The biggest /Baddest Battery you can get within your price range....a wize ole Irishman once told me...lol bNb
  18. I just grabbed 4 new batterries from CTC. 1 Cranking Energizer.......700MCA w/ reserve of 140minutes 3 DeepCycle/2 for trolling motor 24 volt charging system and the xtra for the accessories 650MCA..w/130minutes reserve amp.hr.capacity. Total walkout price of ...........$396.00..before taxes. I think I did well. CTC in Trenton.
  19. Fella's....thanks much for your help and responses. I was told the septic only had to be pumped pumped each 3-5yrs.... I've only the owned the house 2yrs and made it a priority to have it done at least once a season and two if neccessary...the last time it was done was in November...8months ago. With all the flooding weve endured The renovations by the previopus owner leaving 3 un-capped pipes...Sheesh??????? A call to my insurance company told me they will put us in a ho5tel for the duration and will look after the TOTAL clean -up and disseffection..........thats it...it was an act of god and not covered...Bull..anyway Buddy couldnt make it today to pump out because he was was stuck on a fellas property...tooo much a load. Sounds like crap to me..ahahaha He'll be out tommorrow by midday...Ive a plumber arriving at the same time to inspect and snake if req'd..........Insurance told me it had to be that way or no coverage. My daughter is billeted out at a friends and the wifey is safely in a hotel......Im still here digging for thew time being till can go no longer but will stay until all is done. Right now Ive got probably 2-3" of raw sludge in the bath tub....not nice.to say the least... Windows all open.....woodstove going full to take out the dampness Hpefully by tommorrows end this will be resolved. Again Buds. Thanks for your replies. From smelly ole me.......Ill let you know what happens. S*%t happens.......ahahaha pete
  20. Hey 'Ginny bro's....... I'm a bit of a drive from you two but things should work the same I think. Ask me about brick/block/stone and Im good but ......PLUMBING...My head goes numb. Thought it was because of the flooding why the toilet and bathtub/sink etc..were being slow. When I got in tonight I smelt the foulest odours and went to investigate. Downstairs in the half basement where all the pipes eventually end up I asked Charmaine to flush the toilet........ GoodFeaking Grief........ It came straight out the pipes onto the floor. This is when I realized I was standing in about 3-4inches of not just water.......PUKE. Toilet paper...everything...everywhere. On further inspection I traced the main pipe from the bathroom and folled it all the way to the leak and then over another 28' to where it leaves the house and empties into the septic tank. OK...the bricklayer says...no problem. Tonight Ill just ducttape up the leak and properley cap it off tommorrow with a weld too. One more flush after the ducttape...everything came up the bathtub.....ouch! Went out and dug up the septic.....it is full. I called the guy to empty it tommorrow.. He said in the mean time..run a hot water hose from the intake of the septic into the house to attempt an unplugging. Major roughage comming out but after running the hot water tank dry still no clearing . Im having the septic cleaned tommorrow...and will rent one of them SNAKES to try and clear any blockage. One thing I noticed inside the basement.....where everything was comming out was out of 3 different pipes that led nowhere.....it looks as if they were the old connection and someone put in new without capping off or removing the old lines. One line is 2" copper/ 2 are 3 1/2" copper??????????they go nowhere......run off the elbow. Any tips as to what may be going on fellas? Getting pretty smelly around here and we might just end up in a hotel before this night is over......... I then have to look at cleaning out the baseent/crawlspace....and getting it disenffected for sure....and will deffinitely be needing help with how exactly to go about that. Many thanks, bNb..........................Wow...its a bit much I tell ya......
  21. Wellllllllll....chickenhawk... I kinda like the stuff the way it is right now. It doesnt smack ya in the face like it belongs on the FLW tour nor in NASCAR. Dont get me wrong...I love both the above mentioned but, I think the OFC merch., is sorta laid back and a great representation of the true outdoorsman in the colours that are already there..(we all got our likes/dislikes) Ive personally got quite a bit of OFC merch., and I like it.... The bright yellow jacket with the logo and your board name kinda scared me at first(very bright), but Ive grown to be proud to have one and will wear it whenever on the boat when it calls for it. Personally..I think we'd be much like everyone else ifn we made it too splashy and we'd end up losing the laid back but serious look. Nothing impressed me more then seeing ...'DipLips'..yellar jacket one year at Lakair..seen him and Raf come up from the water after a serius days fishing... ...worn in...slimed and bloodied with countless hook removal holes.........Serious stuff. Dont change a thing TJ.
  22. Mike, Thanks very much for all the effort that went into posting this report. One of the best in some time Bud. Sure nice to hear you got into some marble eye action too...your whole crew. Sorry about that bad experience with the console...bet you didnt sleep at all last night.....lol Yo...go tiller..go tiller Mike...Ive a console on mine....it was a preference tho.... Im going to PM ya Bud...when your down next Ill be slipped at BayMarine about 5km east of Trenton but I can see the BayBridge from the slip. We'll have to gettogether for sure....Im there for the season. Thanks also for the pics on the leader boards...that was nice to see.... Where was that freaky yellar bird you usually have?.......LOL
  23. Im pretty sure the residents of Whitevale would not be pleased to have read this anywhere... They have been trying to cut off access areas to anglers for years.....theyve also spent a tremendous amount of monies and time in rebuilding the banks of their stream. I found this exact location more than 35 yrs ago by accident walking the river from the south...miles south. These residents take great pride in their waterway to the point that local public school students are taken down there on school excursions to see the spawn and trout runs every year. They despise the out of town anglers who trash their waters and the banks....as well the no parking areas the angler parks in that are covered in litter by garbage they leave behind. Im not bashing you johnnybass......its just not a good idea at all to post on the internet. This is why we have the hookups section. I was a newbie to musky fishing 5-6 yrs ago.....(well, after being away from it for some 40 years anyway) I was also a newbie to icefishing 9-10 yrs ago.... I just learned to study each species...everything that I could find written about the subject or on video. The AdventureMaps books were great beginner tools...but none better then actually getting out on your own and approaching anglers already there and learning from them. Look what happened to the TO Islands after all the posting some 5 years back right here on this board.....Ill admit, I was one of the newbies then too........Now there are fewer and fewer locations there that can be acessed. H O O K U P - S E C T I O N........thats where it belongs.
  24. .......what a game. You two saw it too...awesome. Brendan Morrow scores after 69min 3secs OT............ it broke a 1-1 tie of great hockey. BTW........Morow is Canadian no matter what..a Saskatchewan lad. Great hockey game.......... Gonna crawl into bed beside the wife now.........shes already PO'd...watxhed the Pitts/NYR game before this...lol.
  25. Probably one of the best hockey games Ive ever watched and its not even over........ (well, in a long, long time) Time right now...just between the 3rd and 4th OT 1:59am. The kidz best watch out....Be it 'burg or the Wings.... These 'MEN', play big time hockey...and its for real.... ...anyone else catching this game? If sanJose takes this game..... I dunno...they were down 3-0 in the series Either way...both these teams are leagues apart from the East.
