  1. Wow...looking back I just realized ive been up since 2am........ Gonna head down to Timmies in Trenton in about 1/2hr I think.
  2. Bushed here too guys...fell asleep about 6:30pm and woke up about an hour ago, (3am now) and cant sleep either after todays events. I cant for the life of me figure out why folk would choose to live on mountains above great steel mills.. Im in the TrentValley....was told the last flooding was close to 30yrs ago but did not even come close to the 100yr water mark. I do know this....My wife an I shopped for property all over the beautiful parts of this province.. Came close to calling Goderich, SturgeonFalls and Nipigon home...until we came across this paradise. Any idea what it is like to wake up to the view we enjoy "NORMALLY' each and everyday.... ..and the fishery ... Not to mention ive also the BayOfQuinte, 10min down the road by truck or 6-locks by water from 'MY' dock you see in my avatar and the Kawarthas about 1hr north/west of me Theres no haze or brown coloured skies or the 'whiffs' of industry.... Trees and Water only. Oh Yeah.Turkeys...turkeys all over the place..plenty of deer sighted daily on our evening walks and one of the largest populations of falcons in the province. You do have one good point tho... Some homes were built far to close to the water and thats the folks we've been trying to assist. Myself...Im a good 120' away....(well, except my workshop sadly) I dont believe I whined about the flooding in my threads....just what was going on and hoping to hear from the others on the board who've been affected by the high waters. Now I know who these guys are and hope to g2g with each and everyone of them this year for a little lure washing and fish stories....yeah, we'll probably discuss the flood too. Cant have it all!
  3. taper, last summer I bought a rebuilt 18hpEvinrude for my tinny........I believe it is or was a '76. Works OK.....have to make a few pulls to get 'er going but once running just purrs. I paid $350. Dont know about your Merc..but being from around the same year and even more hp perhaps a little extra. Have you had it running yet? GoodLuck w/your choice/purchase.
  4. Sinker......thanks for your updates pal. Tell you what...If you'd really liked to get involved, at the Frankford hockey arena, they do require volunteers for bagging sand if its not too far a drive for you. Currently theyve the OPP and the armed forces there as well as a few locals. I couldnt tell you the amount of bags they did yesterday...phenomenal Theres never enough volunteers....but I think that will change when most of our locals are home from the weeks work. Its the seniors residences we are trying to cover for obivious reasons. Lew....thanks alot bud for your way generous offer....truly appreciated that. This mornings water levels remained the same from last night.....! WhEw ! Im taking the day of today to transport bags for others who cant..... Its not that gracious of me really....they were there for me to pick up pre-bagged sand and I appreciate that so just giving a little back. Its the ones who are putting in the 10-12hr days bagging who are the ones to be thankful for.
  5. My apologies for stepping in on everyone elses threads about this topic.....(the flood) Comming home from the office I cross the downtown bridge in Belleville, (the Moira) and it is insanely dangerous with the water flow... I heard on the radio about 7am this morning my river, (the Trent) wont be cresting for another 2 weeks and that by this weekend could rise as much as 22"....... On my way back home at noon today I heard an alert that the army has set up a headquarters at my hometown arena where you can pick up sandbags 'Free of Charge"....... Awesome gesture by the local sand /gravel suplier..complete w/bags.(Cooney S&Gravel in Frankford) Anyway..the water had crept up another 4-5 feet up the property in the 4-5 hours Id been away. Off to the arena............just over 15,000lb in sand/bags, Charmaine an I, set up across our backyard by my workshop/office.... hopefully inprevention...I set these up right at the NEW river edge. The river used to be 120' from our back patio door and now is about 45-50' away..... You wouldnt believe what we see floating down the river in the way of OutBuildings and lawn furniture.... We've 2 submersibles running full time...problem is..where do you pump it to... I believe we're all going to be alright but it is the suspense and some mild townsayer panic setting in a lot of folk. Anyhoo.........Im done with bagging till tommorrow..Got cut off...Theres folk who havent returned home from work yet who may need what they have left for sandbags. To the Army and OPP.........A Huge WTG.......... Any idea what it is like leaving your telephone numbers with the OPP in case they need you....... Got a charge out of that...(it was requested of all who had trucks) I'll post all the pics tommorrow when back at the office. bNb
  6. Walleyejigger, Nothing negative from here on this topic.... My name is not G-----t...........(J/K.. G).... (C'mon man..ya love the action of these threads and if you still got them....You've also the boots to wade in thick with it..ahahaha..) W-Jg'r......Ive sent you a PM
  7. Thankyou everyone. Polliwog.that was pretty deffinitive..T-Y Maybe down the road I'll get in involved with the pwerSquadron coarse but not for now. I'll be doing the regular p;leasureCraftOperator on-line and leave it at that. I spoke with my mother last night..both my folks have their powerSquadron and Mom also has a separate Navigator license......Well, they are in their mid/late '70's now and dont get out as much as theyd like but every now and then. Again, thanks for everyones imput.. PS. No probs Sinker.
  8. Heard this morning on our local radio station: The TrentHills area and the river from Campbellford to the BOQ will crest in another 2 weeks and to expect the river to rise by another 22"...........
  9. Yer right there Lew. The good usually out does the bad in alot of cases. That pig that tossed the garbage looked like they just cl;ened out their vehicle and not a collection of PIGS over the coarse of the day.just the same as you said.the freaking garbage can was only 100' away....I dont understand folks like this. Other thing I dont understand is that this person that littered at this spot..if they were there taking in the beuaty too...why would they then toss their garbage...........
  10. Morning folks. I spoke with my insurance company yesterday and inquired into whether or not I'd get a discount for having the PleasureCraftOperatorCard. They informed me that YES, there is a discount but only if you've the PowerSquadronCard. To my knowledge...only the PCOC will be required come 2009 by all. If you've the PSC would that suffice over the mandated PCOC..?
  11. ..and there is something wrong with a BrickWall?? Go Che-vee...Go Che-vee.......they're the doozey Actually my truck is a GMC...
  12. Well.........you'll not like this but, The last 2 pce rod i ever owned was a Shimano..(So are all my new 1pce) and I ended up taking it back to where i bought it from..(Gagnon's..in Oshawa) They also gave it there best in the shop with no good result....... Because of the maker and the greatness of the Gagnon respect for their customers. They simply gave me another...........NoCharge TYVM Good luck Bud!
  13. ....we saw some resident gar take up a home right at our backyard dock last july/07 Funniest looking fish....... Glenn at Sam's Carra OutdoorSports wrote an article on this fish... Glenn I believe, is Sams store manager and also a guide.(a pro on Quinte) I havent fished for them yet but would rather not at our place to just see them come around even more. bNb
  14. I'll see if I can post some pics when at school tommorrow.. Just taking a break right now and have the camera batteries charging... as Im looking out the back patio door there is a boat towing a garden shed it looks like, out onthe river..... Went to bed last night and the water was just west of the firepit located close to the middle of our backyard......When I awoke this morning it was on the east side. Your right Sam..the Moira is supposed to crest by wednesday, is what theyre saying... It'll be a relief I hope for them folks. ....in our parts TrentHills and the Valley..isnt supposed to crest for another 2 weeks......GoodGrief. We just got back from CT purchasing more rope to tie some articles down. We've got another 70' still of lawn before the water.....thats out of 120' from the back patio door. Keep up the great work Bud!........ ...seen the army helipcopter daily surveying the situation...they are up an down the river near 8hrs a day.) Sam..I'll be back in Belleville tommorrow (7:30am)morning till noon.. If theres anything I can contribute give me a shout on the cell...Got a full tank of gas. Gas on the REZ selling $ 1.03/09. Sam....Yes it is a tragedy and everyones pulling together on it and it seems like all is working but I got to tell ya Bud.......your truck has been seen everywhere throughout this... WTG ! Ive got to concern myself more where I live now....but I can stillI be available tommorrow til noon if req'd.
  15. Sam, I'm in. My injury will prevent me from slugging the bags but Ive got a 3/4 ton and can be ready to go as of noon today. I'm only one river over and have spent this entire weekend pumping out my basement flooding...it has been a real tough spring for everyone out here....they cant open the damns all the way so they dont flood the locks. The river is about 20' or more onto our property and everything had to be moved in the vicinity...you wouldnt believe what we've seen floating down river from neighbours. Hey Sam.Ive got an extra sub-mersible too..... Let me check for available hose.... Ive still got to keep one running at my place.. I'll bring extra extension cords as well if required. Im shy on hose tho with all the extensions added to the main one....got any? Get back to me for the bag pick-up point. Peter I'll be out all morning ...Ill PM you my cell.
  16. Raf.......WTG Bud! I consider myself a newbie to lunge tactics and gear still... There never seems to be enough info and Ive googled the entire worth of that available out there. as well belong or subscribe to every publication about this fish for years..Nothing beats time on the water tho' and handling the beast for both of our interests. For sure someone new will learn from this post......... You should write another on the tools required before even attempting to hunt for one... My belief is that anyone fishing for musky should experience/witness the entire hunt from another with the experience before ever going it alone....From the first cast to the release. Exellent post man...... bNb
  17. No Replies......... What does that tell ya Bud! Seriously, when a PM is recieved you can click on the members name and there'll be a pop-up and will clearly state 'Add to Friends List' I dont think you even have to have been sent a PM... Try clicking on any member and somewhere at the top by their name if you scroll close there'll be another pop-up and it'll say the same thing..'Add to Friends List' Dont add me........ j/k Hope it was a help. bNb
  18. Gerrit may be thee 'InternetHero' but, Lew, you an Joey are my fishing heroes for sure. As others stated..awesome story for the grandkids... It a story Ill be telling my immediate lads about.....they hunt the lunge too!
  19. Mike............... Sorry Bud and teammate.........But, What/who told you the C-4 is better then the C-3........ I could be so completely wrong on this and way out of line but from what ive heard the C-4's are a reel to stay away from and in that series of Abu the C-3 is the only way to go. I suppose it is what you intend the useage for........ Ive a couple of C-3 6501's....Theyve put up with a lot of abuse and are still clickin'.. Ive also a 5501 ..but that is now the wifies....... My confidence reels are all Shimano. Catela 301...love this little guy, great casting. Calcutta Te 401..(x2)..my go to buds) Calcutta 400...well, this one is for guests. I needed a 7000 for heavy trolling and managed to pick an Abu7000 at a great price....yes, its a righty. White007...if you dont want to spend the money on a calcutta (te401) go with the C3 6501. Exellent starter reel for almost all applications. bNb
  20. Not to offend..........but, To be on the side of caution I'll be picking one up G............. I heard it from Lew and that is gospel to me pretty much!... I can fully undertand how the strain can/could be on the trailer alone at the same time when you look at it......... It appears the load and torque is solely on the transom. For the $50-12-- whatever..is better then an accidental... Fully insured but..do they cover Not Thinking let alone the inconveinience of a lost day on the water...... Going for it Bud....... Thanks for the info fellas, bNb
  21. Thanks for posting this G......... I've no answer for you but will eventually have posted the same myself. My motor is a 115 and I am a little concerened over the same situation.....It is tilted to max and has a locking tab too but just the same ...........Should I be concerened. Thanks G for letting me :ASK-ON" your post Bud! bNb
  22. BigCliff, You are 100% correct in your post...... When we bought here, we bought as our retirement property....and that will never change! Perhaps down the road our kids may run into a situation and curse long after we are gone but, On our .."Plan of Survey" There is no dimensions given for the existing deck.. It is just an etched in area showing a deck roughly 1/3 the size of the house................it is a very large deck. We will re-build this deck to original length but will be adjusting the width to where the existing bottom landing is...roughly by 5' There is nothing in the OBC for/against this in our area. For our own sake...it wil be built with the proper material/spec's...to accomadate a roof we'll add. Enclosing this new deck in not an issue either....... We'll just install some windows..(The longest water front view will be almost entirely windows)... some Exterior cladding...and a new roof to attach to the existing roof ridge board of the house as it stands. As for later down the road........... Well, there will be nothing of concern as there is no dimension given/shown and for all itense and purposes it will look exactly as shown as per "Plan of Survey". Please folks dont do this at home tho..... All im saying is that according to the Town Survey it will appear as 'AS WAS'..... Your neighbours must be of good gravity and true friendship durring inital to completion of the project. Once up..as I stated..it will be just as was... If there never was a deck prior too or if there was and dimensions given/shown........ I'd need a permit............FOR SURE! bNb Septic systems are a whole other dangerous scenario when on the water as you are fully aware B-Cliff.
  23. Different zones...different by-laws. I'm not permitted to build the addition Id like to without first getting permission from the Lower Trent Conservation Auhority...then the town if all is good. Turns out we're already in non-compliance...ie:distance back from the water.(200' high water mark/100yr)* But, I can build.(rebuild) my deck without any permit whatsoever..... Ok..I just make it a little larger...add a roof....and enclose the thing..presto, new addition. Ill then remove the back wall of the house and the roof above from the inside. Many folk in my paRTS have done just that without problem. I'll not be inviting problems from the town or anywhere else as it is an accepted practise.----------------------------- Its an existing structure is why its possible....and the roof line will not be higher.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  24. .....add on. Not everyone who works exactly to the drawings given them gets paid. Case....The New Toronto Library. (this was about 15yrs ago) It was a fine structure, an architectural feat in design but, an engineering mess. This new library was the talk of the industry...quite the spectacle...all 5 storeys of her. You know what...Not one person took into account the weight of books. They started loading in the books at the 5th floor..halfway finished the fourth floor this magnificent looking structure had dropped on two corners almost 7"....... Needless to say all the floor and ceiling joist had been already twisted and bent, windows were cracking from the strain. Well, the enginers went into bankruptcy.........Yikes. All contrators with remaining holdback on invoice were not paid...nor would they be. They were not paid as it turned out for not building with any foresight of what may transpire with the added weight. Common sense....... If you dont build anything the way YOU KNOW it shold be...dont expect to get paid for it or plain dont build it at all.
