Ok now that I know I'll be able to wet a line, what should I bring , I am flying in so i'm limited to what I can bring, I got a telescoping pole and can bring a spinning reel, what should I do, bring some jigs and gulp or spoons to throw from shore?

Protroller Smart Tab Review And The Legalities Of Caching Boats
grt1 replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
getting a boat cache is no big deal. go to the mnr and request the boat cache form and when it is approved they should give you numbers to put on your boat to make it legal. I got 2 boats cached in nw ontario and have had no problems from mnr by following the process. -
mine is a trout I got in 10 feet of water while fishing walleye on Eagle Lake.

I used them in the tournament I fished last weekend, they work great but the problem for me was that I haven't used worms in a LONG time and must have given the walleye too long to take the bait because I had to cut the line on 5 or 6 of them to release because they swallowed the hook. I got mine at Cabelas (in the states) and plan on getting more when I return there in November. the only problem I had was trying to put those slimey squirmey worms on the hook. (the guys on tv make it look so simple).

Well I spent the Labour Day weekend fishing the Red Lake fall classic and for me it was a tough one to get any big fish. With weeks to go before the tournament everyone I talked to said Red Lake was producing big fish, well my partner and I decided we would fish Red Lake and get some of these biggies on the tournament. Normally I fish Gullrock Lake (a lake connected to Red Lake by a river system) and get lots of fish, but for a change Red Lake was going to be our target area. The Red Lake tournament has 140 boat field of teams and almost 85% of the teams headed to the west end of Red Lake , where for the past 5 years the winning fish have come from. we joined the party out there and while most teams went past where we fished, the area we were in was also noted for holding big fish. Now when I say big, I'm talking 27-30 inch walleye. We didn't do well, we started throwing away the 10 -14 inch walleyes we caught when we finally realized that we had to weigh in 5 fish for the day and we should have kept them even though they were small. We did get a 15 pound northern but it was no good to us and we moved to several spots before day 1 was over and weighed in 2 fish for a total of 2.22 pounds. On day 2 we went down river to Gullrock and in the first 20 minutes we caught more fish than we did all day 1 One of the fun things about the fall classic is the people you meet and in the afternoon, while fishing a flat area and getting 19 to 22 inch walleye one after another, up comes a boat to join our spot and it's Gary Roach. Naturally Gary apologized for coming to our spot (he is really a nice guy) but we told him we were moving and wished him good luck. We never did find any big fish but on day 2 we weighed in a total of 7.98 pound giving us a 2 day total of just over 10 pounds for 7 fish, finishing in 125th place. Now I know that's pretty poor but there were teams that weighed in 0 fish so I don't feel too bad. The winners weighed in just over 30 pounds. For a list of the winners and finish results you can visit redlakefallclassic.com

I bought a plug in us2 for my trolling motor by mistake, I just dug it out and see that it has the silver plug that goes to the motor but it also has a separate cable for the power that connects into the 6 pin back of the depth finder. this is of NO use to me. send me your address and I'll stick it in the mail to you. it's thursday night if you get this tonight try and call me at 807-727-3971 and I can get it in the mail tomorrow.

I didn't read all the posts in this item but you have to remember, politicians and political parties that govern the province change from time to time,BUT the beauracrtats that actually make the policy STAY until retirement. The politicians don not have the knowledge to make all the right decisions and rely too much on their ministry officials and their recommendations before they table the required legislation or regulations that affect our access. We would be better off if we could elect our ministry people.

go to crappy tire and get one of those c clamp bow lights that run on flashlight batteries, it's a cheap and easy way to make lights happen -

I heard this on the news a few days ago and remembered seeing a post on here of someone getting their "dream job" at Totem resort for the summer. I did a search and saw that Pikie was only 18 from Barrie, it kind of set my mind at rest, since the fellow who drown was 23 and from St Catherines. It is still sad though, the Lake of the Woods is pretty treacherous during storms and there are still unmarked reefs out there. Evidently this fellow didn't turn up for work and the lodge owners called the OPP and reported him missing. they found his boat floating and him on the shore.

I was going through some old post cards that were in an album that my aunt had. There are several with old stamps (USA,Canada, Honduras, Thailand). I was going to pitch them but if someone collects them or has a child that does, I can send you them , just let me know and I'll put them in the mail. [email protected]

the weather network was reporting it as a tornado touch down but the local radio station up here is saying that environment canada is coming up to verify that fact. the news is reporting two cabins destroyed and one article I say said the victims were from Oklahoma and 2 bodies were recovered several meters from shore, 1 person is stil missing.

just had fresh walleye and rice, tried chronzy's breading and batter mix, it was nothing special as a breading, maybe it will be better as a batter, I'll try that next time

thanks for the pics Simon, made me jealous, i'm sitting here in southern ontario and my boat is on the lift on gullrock, what's wrong with that picture. I went outside yesterday, the sun was shining and no wind, I though boy i bet the walleyes are biting like a bugger, I guess you proved they were. -
years ago when i worked for weekends guiding out of nestor falls, we used to get some good muskies in that area, nestor falls is only a short drive (by northern standards) from the fort and with a smaller motor you could easily handle sabaskong bay and some of the areas west of it.

have you got snow in Dryden? We got 6 inches so far and I still can't see the big island 1/2 mile down the bay from me because of the snow
-

I know the feeling, I got home from an eternity in Toronto on Sunday night and the ice finally left our bay the following day, the grass is turning green and I spent tuesday getting my skiff ready for the opening day this saturday. Now the weather man has issued a winter storm warning and according to the write up on the weather site, we can expect 15 cm of snow starting tomorrow through saturday. When is it going to end?????

suckers are pretty boney, but up here a lot of people catch them in the spring when they are spawning and can or pickle them. Evidently the pickling processhelps break down the bones and they add red food colouring to it so when it comes out it looks like salmon. the bones end up the way the salmon bones do when you take them out of the can. I had one lady give me a jar of pickled sucker and the wife made a meat loaf out of it. the first slice was ok but after that it was kindof tough to get down. maybe it would be good if used as a sandwich meat.

thanks for the help. it appears that BPS is just up the street from where I'll be staying . Maybe I'll have to visit my aunt more often. from the map it is the same distance as what i have to travel to pick up my mail each day so i can do quick trips to the store. I guess the next problem will be getting my purchases home.

thanks for the offfer, but I have to be in the soo for monday and tuesday, i plan on leaving wednesday am and the way it looks i'll rent a car for a week or 2 since i don't know when i have to return (or be able to return home). I will be staying in the Jane & Sheppard W area for a few days, I may have a chance to get to BPS. What is the best way to get there?
