Woke up @ 6 a.m. to feed the baby, got her back sleeping and into bed with mom by 6:45 and was knee deep in the credit river by 7:15 a.m. Fished my butt off for for 3 hours, hit 4 different pools and the results were all the same....shiners, shiners and more shiners! I couldn't keep the darn things off my hook! So I switched to a big old "roe" bag and upsized to huge chubb minnows. It's hard to tell in the pic but this guy was a solid 6-7 inches.... In the past year my Credit Catches include: Bass Pike Drum Carp Walleye Salmon Suckers Shiners ....I thought it was a steelhead river? haha Tomorrow's another day! Cheers, UF

FINALLY GOT TO HAVE MY OPENER
The Urban Fisherman replied to canadian_copper's topic in General Discussion
congrats on the opener, and new spot CC - better than mine! haha i'll post in a minute! Thanks for the eye candy! UF -
It's funny you mentioned that MJL - I met a guy who was doing just that at the mouth of the creek where I normally carp fish! He was using some sort of flies and actually hooked into one while I was there...one heck of a fight on fly gear! I might have to try it someday, but without my dog....whenever I wade out into the water, beyond his reach he howls and barks non-stop until I get back to shore! drives me crazy! Good Fishin!
-
well, I voted sheepshead only because I tipically fish for them while bass fishing....and bass are my favourite sportfish...... I prefer the fight of a carp, but I have to be in the right mood for carp fishing....a lazy mood.... I'm more of a hunter than a sit and wait kind of fisherman... But in early spring, before the carp and sheepies move in, I have NO problem goin after suckers! Cheers, UF

SWEEEEEEET report Mike! Congrats to Ryan - he's got a great name to by the way! haha I can't wait until my daughter's that age..... thanks for the report! Ryan

Niagara Whirlpool This Morning
The Urban Fisherman replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
awesome pix man! thanks for the post! UF -
I often use two single hooks, about 6 to 8 inches appart tipped with corn for carp. I never did in the past until I fished with an asian friend who was doing it and consistently catching more carp than me. Cheers, UF
-
right on dude! good work! UF

Buglenose Trout! Can't wait t'il the weekend! Thanks for the report! UF

Hey Bass Doc! I was sure they were in the minnow family but I may have been mistaken. I think there's a "sucker" family of fishes by themselves... Check out this link: it's a really good fish info resourse....They're great sportfish in my opinion - my PB is a 24 inch redhorse caught in the thames in London, ON. http://www.cnr.vt.edu/efish/ A quick google search should provide some good info on them as well! Cheers, UF
-
Yeah, went to college in london, last three years I was able to start getting them at the beginning of april! Can't wait for this years carp season.....there's to many damn species out there! I wanna fish them all! haha UF
-
Hey all, I work downtown and on my way in today as huge flock flew over me as I was driving down the gardner! bummer! I think I read a thread back in the day that said they were going to open a hunting season for them? at any rate, sucks that they're around! Cheers, UF
-
Hey WA - I frequent humber bay park quite often - there's bass and pike to be had when the seasons open! There's also a crap load of carp in the little lagoons all summer long! (not the ponds, the little bays and inlets) the ponds have largemouth bass, bluegill and i've seen some small carp come out of them. I'd be glad to meet you out there at some point - can't guarantee that you'll catch a fish but I can show you a thing or two! Welcome aboard - you're sure to learn alot. UF
-
I did a quick search on the net and Barbel are in the carp family. Suckers are in the minnow family, but I've managed some over 24 inches..... lots of fun on an ultralight setup, or even steelhead gear...... UF
-
Hey bass Doc, I'm at work and should probably be, well, working haha Yeah I went to school in London, ON and used to catch them by the dozen in the thames. We used a lighter setup, with a slip sinker/swivel down to a worm harness, or just a plain old hook tipped with a big juicy earth worm! I caught the ones in the pictures while steelheading, but if I had the right setup I'd have landed a TON of those suckers. When the water clears up you can actually see them. The steelheaders seem to fish early moning and fizzle away in the afternoon and into the night, so I might hit the credit @ night and go for those suckers next week. I'd be glad to have a fishing partner. Let me know when you're free and I'll take you down to the spot. It's near Erindale Park. Cheers, UF
-
DUDE, the credit river, near Erindale Park is chock FULL of those buggers....last weekend I was steelheading and not only did I catch 3 by the lips, I lost a few and accidentally snagged a few more cause they're in so thick! Good fishin' UF
-
It's my first spring in this part of ontario, and first year steelheading so I've never seen the shoulder to shoulder opener before......not to excited about it though! I imagine it's alot like the mouth of the credit when the salmon start moving in, in the fall.... This past weekend I fished the credit from about 5:30 a.m. until 7:30 I was alone....took a walk downstream for a couple hours, came back to the "hole" that I was fishing earlier and almost fell on my butt when I saw at least 10 people fishing the same drift......buuuuummmeeeeerrrrrr Good luck to all, UF
-
MARRIAGE?!?!?! I knew we forgot about something....my GF and I skipped that step and went strait to baby making! hehehe now we have a beautiful 6 month old daughter........Hmmmmmmmm new boat, or engagement ring?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Congrats, and good fishin' UF
-
Right on Rich! Dude you make sure "the wife" knows that fishing is part of the package! Cheers, UF

DUDE - I had my best day of bass fishing in Lake "O" last summer!!! fished nippising, nepawassi, and a few ponds back in sudbury, but hands down, one of my best days of fishing last summer consisted of over 30 smallies with a couple in the 3lb range all caught around the mouth of a creek in the GTA. I didn't keep any that day as I already had a couple of eyes in the freezer (from the credit river of all places) but this year I'll be keepin' a few! Cheers, UF
