The Urban Fisherman replied to wuchikubo's topic in General Discussion

That's before my time here - but Dave still tries to get on here as much as he can to see what's goin on. I actually met him and got my job with Dave Mercer Outdoors through OFC. He's probably the busiest guy I've ever met in my life. He's become insanely busy with tv appearances, semenars etc. etc. the last couple of years but refuses to fish any less then he did before so he's rarely by the computer. Cheers, UF

Looks like opener is a lost cause...
The Urban Fisherman replied to kemper's topic in General Discussion
well I can fish Lower Big Creek year around, but there's a small stream, like 1km away from my doorstep that holds steelhead and I can't touch it until opener.... Hooked a few last december before it closed and i'm dying to try it again come opener. As some others said, I'll probably fish that weekend and maybe once or twice more depending on how the first outings go.... -
Maiden Voyage w/ The Pontoon

Very stable - I used to stand on the seat when fishing before I did the mods. If you're going to be back-packing stick with the one you have obviously, but if you're going to just set it up by the car and walk down to the water i'd return the one you have and get one like mine. It's just more solid and probably more comfortable. Let me know how the first trip on the water goes! Good Fishin' UF -
hahaha great report.... I'd eat 'em!

I agree that the DC would cast the farthest but the zing sound it makes drives me nuts after a while!

Awesome guys! great thread while we wait for everybody to get into the softwater season. Got my beagle from a foster home while living in my fraternity house during college. His mom's owners didn't want to deal with the pups so they shipped them away as soon as they could. He was only $150.00 with all his shots and checkups. (just to cover the expenses for the foster home) Since then I've had to spend a fair bit of money on him as he likes to get into things. Stiches from getting kicked by a cow next door, he got into the garbage and swallowed a trout hook so that surgery was like $1200.00 etc. etc. but all well worth it and I'm glad to have my buddy with me. Otherwise I'd be the only guy at the house! Here's Tamias and I taking a break from a game of ball hockey on the back pond. He gets frustrated because he can't keep up with me on the ice!

I'd go with some sort of braid, with a fluorocarbon leader! I use Powerpro or Stren Superbraid with Trilene %100 fluro. Cheers

If it were me buying again, I'd go with an UL berkley Lighting Rod for 34 bucks and pair it up with an Abu Garcia Cardinal 100U or 101C which were 29 bucks at BPS a couple weeks ago. For an inexpensive combo you can't go wrong! Cheers, UF

Supposed to warm up all week and be nice and hot next weekend - hopefully the Gill's and Crappie will school up and move shallow. Should make for an awesome outing! I'm sure you and Sleded will be chasing cats again but if not I'll be on the water, same spot same time! Cheers dude -

Fish Finder dude - i've got a humminbird on its way! haha Thanks GCD - The water was is like ice, there's still some snow on the banks here and there. But we had a HUGE rain storm the night before and the was was really stained which might also affect the color of the fish. to bad the tourny hasn't started yet or I'd have let some of the bigger gills go and used them for the tourny - i'm getting a measuring sticker for one of hte pontoons with the OFC logo and our team logo. Extremely stable - see last coment...It's a light rig so the wind pushes you around pretty easily, nothing a small anchor or drift sock can't take care of though.... VERY STABLE! you can stand up no problem and move around, setting the hook isn't an issue at all, but keep in mind i'm a smaller dude - 155lbs. Trolling to my spot with the electric worked out great to...I'd stay away from any white water though, slower current would be ok i'm sure, but I'm only using it for small lakes, ponds and long points inner bay when it's calm. -
Just got back from getting a reel spooled...

Thanks CC! They're only about $250.00 @ BPS now! I made some serious mods though! Cheers dude! -
My fiance bought me an electric motor for the modified pontoon boat as a birthday gift, so this morning I decided to head out after panfish. My target fish were big bluegill with hopes of stumbling upon some crappie. Despite last nights insane lightning storm it still turned out to be a decent morning. The boat ran smooth and sturdy - better than I'd hoped. Man it feels good to fish with a little comfort again. First stop was my bluegill spots, really sort of the same spots you'd look for crappie in the spring, back bays and sunken tree's. It was tough to find my main sunken tree's as the water was murky and much higher than what I'm used to. The fish were also scattered, and deep. You'd get 1 maybe 2 fish per tree. Anyways, same old bait, pink trout worm under a float - the bluegill love them. I need to find a better way to take pictures on the boat though... Managed 5 keepers, with a 10.5 incher being the biggest of the day. Things were just heating up when my battery died. (borrowed it, it's an older deep cycle) Somewhere in the middle I got this suprise OOS Stocker Rainbow. Went back unharmed. All in all not a bad 2.5 hours on the water and I'm more than happy with the new pontoon boat. Can't wait to hit the lake again next weekend! Cheers, UF

attaching directly to the eye of a crankbait????
The Urban Fisherman replied to sconceptor's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure i'll sound like a broken record as I haven't read the posts before me, but with pike you'll want a wire leader of some sort, and with walleye you're a-ok without a metal leader I did a shoot with Dave Mercer and watched him catch 40 some walleye in a row on a crank bait, leaderless and didn't lose a single one. I think the action of a smaller crank bait can be altered a little by using a big old metal leader.... Just my opinion - Either way - good luck out there this summer! Cheers -
i'll tell you what... I just spent a week in Bama and them there folks are pretty darn hospitable! The kids have manners to - always a "yes sir" and "thank you sir".... Although I never saw anybody shoot a snake from the driver's seat of his truck until I was down there! haha HERE'S TO GRITTS AND HUSH PUPPIES GCD!

Hey if you're sport fishing I say there's nothing wrong with targeting this species! A big sheepie will out-fight any smallie I've caught on the hookset, but they're usually pooched after a couple of good runs. Once you get them in the boat you've got to be speedy because they'll go belly up quicker than any bass I've caught. Also, they're no uglier than a carp, and a little more exciting to fish for if you prefer casting to sitting!
