  1. Picked some up at the BPS spring sale. For $2/300yrd spool it was overpriced. Stiff, thick dia, memory up the wazoo.........long cast my ass, this line is only seeing clear water carp duty now. After fishing with braid for years, trying mono again just annoyed me on every cast.
  2. Purdy boat......don't keep it that shiny too long, scratches add character.
  3. I look forward to the Hamilton Crackberries bringing home the Cup. Woot.
  4. Seen any channels come out of that spot in the last week? I had a complete blanking on the pike yesterday, Plan B was to stop there in the afternoon to pick up some carp but the action didn't pick up after you left.
  5. I think most of the trout stocked into Hamilton goes to the Grindstone. Neither creek has much of a chance at natural reproduction anyway.
  6. Did the same and a few other spots around Hamilton. Complete blank, no follows.......not even a sheepie. Water was alot murkier at Bayfront than it usually is, but temp was good. Even Hot Steel drew a blank in Steeltown. Remember to operate a boat in TO you need a Harbour License. http://www.torontoport.com/PortAuthority/p...rmits_intro.asp
  7. Next time plan ahead...........pick up 5lb. of feed corn from Tregunno Seed in Hamilton and feed an occasional carp habit for years. Cost for bait, $3 & time to boil it with sugar & vanilla. http://maps.google.ca/maps?oe=utf-8&cl...=14&iwloc=A
  8. What's the differance between a trout & salmon? A chinook gets lined by marshmallows..........a trout EATS them. badda..bing....... Okay want an interesting bait that you'll never see on the rivers? Take a diving crankbait, something with a wide wobble (i.e. anything other than a Rapala) and take out the rear hook and replace with a foot of flouro and a hook & pink worm. Work that combo with whatever line you like under bits of brush and logjams full of steel. Either way it's fun times walking back to the car with a flippin' stik in your hand past the pin guys.
  9. Any harbour on Lake O has more than a few decent pike swimming in it.
  10. This is just yet another McGuinty flash in the pan tack-on to the Highway Traffic Act that simply doesn't need meddling with. It's already in the books.........great, so why jerk around with it? I can't see how anybody could have a problem with a 12 hour administrative suspension for 0.05......that is unless you're corporate special interest group whose entire livelihood and reason for existence is to continually keep pushing the boundaries, no matter what. The real reason these bans, amendments and new laws keep cropping up is the Libtards need to keep everyones attention pointed in other directions from what is really happening in Ontario. We have gone from the economic engine of the most democratic country in the world to a have-not province in the capital of nanny-states in a very very short time. Cell phone bans which aren't really bans, street racing laws that have caught more municipal trucks & OPP cars "stunt driving" than actual street racers, and now yet another bone to throw to the suburban soccer mom voting masses. Seriously, nobody else sees through these smoke & mirror tricks that end up mugging peoples wallets on the side of the road on the word of one officer while actually accomplishing absolutely nothing? And I've blown two "warns", both times I've had exactly ONE drink. Want to talk about how accurate the magic box is and how everybody knows exactly how off target it can be? Now is the reason the threshold is currently set at 0.100 because police are lenient with charges or is the real reason equipment deficiencies? I'm not a criminal, but I'm becoming more & more anti-cop with every new, unneeded, "law" AND how they are applied. I look forward to the reporting on how "successful" the new 09:00am RIDE programs are going to be, busting everybody going to work with a hangover. I should subscribe to The Star and get into the tow truck business, sounds like growth industry!
  11. If it's over 13' ANY motor needs an operator card, if you ever fish around Toronto you'll also need a harbour license. $250 fine without a card and putting a Minn Kota on a 16' canoe. Rentals you don't need a card. http://boating.ncf.ca/#reg
  12. How was the water level? I've heard with a new tunnel project they're doing it gets really high & rockin' in the morning and doesn't settle down until later in the afternoon.
  13. I'd take Grand kitties over any trout or salmon from Lake O. Under 10lb. they're darn tasty.
  14. Just watch the end of the road where it joins up with the 400. The last few kilometres are straight and wide open........but with I think a 50km/h limit and on weekends there's usually an OPP cruiser mugging people at the end.
  15. Oddly enough even though I've fished alot for steel in the past, and don't really consider them the brightest of fish, I don't have a stupid trout story. Now salmon, bass & pike, I've seem some decent fish do some really dumb things..... Stupid Salmon Story: I was drifting a G'Bay trib for fresh run chinnies, and first run I hit I ding a really nice 10lb'er that's still silver. He runs maybe 10' into a small logjam at full speed.....and promptly bonks himself and gets wedged in there TIGHT. I mean he hit the timber HARD, you could feel the thud on the bank and it took some wiggling to get him out. Stupid Bass Story: I was sight fishing for some carp around Hamilton, just tossing a line with a ball of WonderBread into the shallows. I missed a cast and was cranking back my bread ball on the surface when a pretty nice bass smacks it on the surface. Stupid Pike: There's smart pike? I've had them hit a buckle on a strap that had slipped overboard and was trailing behind the canoe. Not boil and swim away, grab the buckle and not let go until I pulled it half out of the water.
  16. Just remember as soon as you put a motor, gas or electric, on any water craft you need your Operators Card. Canoe, surf board, even a pontoon or float tube.
  17. Whatever line you choose (instead of PowerPro try to find Tuf-Line, same spectra braid as PP but 1/3 cheaper), strip off a little over a casts distance and lay some electrical tape over the spool, it will cut down how bad your birdsnests will be.
  18. I'll see your Welterweight Spanish catfish and raise you a Mekong Giant.
  19. I went back to mono on a reel that I'm using exclusively for carp & cats (beleive it or not but clear water carp seem to be the most line shy fish out there, really spooked by braid mainline even with a 3' flouro leader). It sucks, I hate it. Flippin' memory, twists, nicks, rubs & reties and crazy thick diameter (12lb Rapala mono is almost twice as thick as 20lb Tuf-Line, current pulls it everywhere). After fishing braid for years it feels like there's a bungee connected between me & the bait. Longer casts, more line capacity, better feel, much much better longevity, go braid.
  20. Great find! OMIGAWDOMIGAWDOMIGAWD I SOOOO WANT! The only problem would be deciding where to hang it, the garage/mancave or the living room Thankfully he hasn't posted any prices.....I don't need another dream crushed. I wouldn't be surprised if these fetch some stupid money. Oh, and Ferrari are just biding their time this season. Really.
  21. Have you been to the Grand yet? The kitties there are in a different league than anywhere on Lake O. Both size & numbers. Anywhere you can find shore access below the Dunnville dam the river is just stuffed with kitties now.
  22. You can buy small clear bobbers that you can fill with water, then have whatever you want as a trailer (fly, worm, streamer). Once resident trout become dialed in on a hatch though, you need to get real close to what they're eating.
  23. If you're talking plastics, I've got half a pack of twister tails that are still Power Baitish after a decade. If you're talking that floating dough that comes in jars six months tops (killer fall brown & bow plunker bait btw)
  24. Albright Knot I learned it messing around with fly rods and still use it for flouro-braid connections. Easiest to learn, quickest knot to tie two sizes together.
