Presumably the argument is you lose the commercials, i.e. sponsors. But then again 99% of the content on fishing shows is a commercial anyway.

I'm not a big fish eater, but I really really like saltwater black drum. I figured I'd give the whistletrout a shot, hell they both look the same. Big mistake.......ugh don't eat sheepshead. Yes it came from Erie. Smoked carp wasn't bad, not great but not bad.

I saw two trout come out of different spots of a trib on Friday, hell on the Niagara & Grand there's bows almost year round. Not alot but they're there. One of the fish on Friday was still spewing milt!

It's legal, but why feed the fish when you want them to eat the corn with the hook in it? Pre-baiting is one thing, but if you're chumming with your hook in the water any extra time carp spend eating is time they're not looking for YOUR bait! Picking up some carp bait from my local seedhouse last week I stumbled upon the prime carp chum, CHICKEN FEED! It's processed, nothing really substantial in it to blow up poor innocent stupid bass, cheap and stupid easy to use. Just chuck in enough water to form a ball, throw ball out. There, the swim is now chummed Now even better than just throwing out chum willy nilly is using a feeder & hair rig. What with the urbane, metrosexual carp we have now you need to get a little more sophisticated than just some Del Monte on a hook. A hair rig is just a method of holding harder bait on a piece of line next to your hook, hard corn instead of canned corn keeps all the smaller buggers like bullheads & gobies off your hook. A feeder is just a piece of bent wire or plastic that holds your chum mix (CHICKEN FEED!). The whole rig looks like this: Hell being the cheap bugger I am I couldn't just shell out the $2.50 for one, five minutes with a coat hanger and I came up with this. Works pretty well too!

Great......I'm sitting here waiting for the cable guy to show up to switch phones from Bell Windward Islands (heh I never get switched to India, but islanders in Montreal, and why the hell can't we just pick up modems & such ourselves, damn bogus "installation charges"). Heh I'll letcha know how it works out.

I've been hassled in my canoe plenty of times, and I hardly ever keep fish. I feel ripped off, all those fresh caught fish dinners I missed and I STILL get hassled! My top three: 1) Took two days to portage into bass back lake, I'm there half a day before a float plane lands and an hour later two guys motor over to my camp and ask me to leave. This was after all "their" lake that they come to for opener every year and they don't like anyone else on it. 2) This chucklehead on the Credit that tried to string barbed wire across the river every year, he didn't like all the canoeists in the Spring that paddled through "His" stretch of the river. 3) Every marshmallow soaking numbnut during salmon season that doesn't like lure tossers on "their" part of the pier. Moral of the story, it's more about jerkoff people getting uppity about what they feel is "theirs" and think they can bully anybody they want if they just yell loud enough, this pretty much transcends racial barriers and always has.

Lots of good bass lakes, but next to zero access. I've been through a few lakes in there before it became a park, but with Fishog access closed and everybody being a parking nazi now I just drive an hour further North to real Crown Land and zero hassles. For a one or two night easy weekender Kawartha Highlands would be a good choice, either Bottle/Sucker or with a little more work Serpentine.

There's some big browns in Whiteman's, you just have to dig for them. They're pretty wary seeing how much pressure it gets. Credit gets a ton of stocking and has alot of fish above Norval. The Grand below Fergus also gets alot of stocking and is full of fish, check the regs for special bait exceptions. Those are pretty much your best shots around Hamilton.

Ask to come by and see the boat (it's not as if it's in Edmonton). If you don't get a response or the seller waffles.....scam. Not all scammers are Nigerian. I'd drive a hard bargain though, with the ID # and obvious saltwater kit (motor, galvanized trailer) it's probably a US boat somebody brought up to flip, and salt wears out expensive motor bits much faster than freshwater.

Question: Why don't more people give jigging a shot on Lake O greasers and do you think it would work for a smaller boat?

The dexterity needed to form Wonderbread into the perfect doughball is an art form that is out of reach of most pinheads......what with their knuckles being busted into horrible misshapen claws and the nerve endings in the fingertips that have long succumbed to the many days of picking ice out of rod guides in February. Hey if you think that's good you should see my favourite way to hit the rivers out East for steel.......let's just say it involves brushpiles, a flippin' stick, 20lb braid and lot's of dirty looks walking by the pinheads with their 1 1/2lb./test tippets.

You really need an unpowered boat to fish Mountsberg, not a whole lot of water can be covered from shore.

If it wasn't for carp & catfish I'd be drawing a blank. Not the greatest spring with the high cold water scattering fish.

The toughest carp to catch are when they are cruising around in schools just under the surface between feeding holes. "Neutral" doesn't do their attitude any justice, indifferent would be more like it. They will ignore just about everything, especially the big ones. I only have one surefire, never fail, always works solution when you find a herd of sunning, cruising carp. It's not subtle, zero finesse, and it only works in areas close to where people feed ducks & geese, and in clear water. Alot of supermarkets will give you discounts on leftover stale bread, $5 will get you the better part of a garbage bag full (GARBAGE BAG!!!!....I can hear the English-style carpers already......). Show up at the swim and start throwing a few pieces of crust out to get some ducks attention......then start winging A LOT more chunks out, the shi......errr herring gulls will start showing up.........now go for armfuls of the bread chunks, you got the geese and swans now going medieval on the gulls & ducks, if you do it right they'll be about 50 birds going ballistic 10' infront of you in a bread feeding pandemonium. But look close, deep in the water. Birds are really messy eaters, and while the bar room brawl in the Bread Octagon is going on upstairs that herd of carp has stopped and is now sucking up all the bread bits falling to the bottom. They're not neutral no more, they're FEEDING. Now pick up your rod, armed with a hook and a big arse doughball and fire it at the carp. No subtle flip, you need to overhand slam it at the water to keep it away from the birds and get it sinking. Bouncing it off a goose's head gets extra style points. Now watch the ball, it will get slammed by the closest carp, if you do it right you can gently slip it out of it's mouth until a really really big one comes by and sucks it in. Give it 5' of slack, let her turn and run, then give'er in the mother of all hooksets. 20lb+ of carp takes off in shallow water 15' away from you, your braid starts bouncing off birds, ducks and geese take off in a squawking flock.......great stuff. I still do that acouple of times a year, beats watching a pod go beep-beep

They call'em greasers for a reason...........don't bbq them unless wrapped in foil or planked, wouldn't believe the fat that renders out of them. Pretty sure you can upgrade the releases to Offshores that grip braid, probably cheaper than respooling.

Heh atleast down here there's carp that are always biting......maybe you should think about importing them, it seems to be the only fish you can't catch out of your backyard Pummeled the carpio's this morn, have some errands to do then I'll give a final whack at Hammy hammer handles. Being from Hamilton I just can't lower my self to fish for Toronto's stylish metrosexual pike, might give a few places around Niagara a shot this week. I'm suffering from pike withdrawal.
