  1. smacking bottom the metal I guess would stand up better, also provides a bit of flash. Having said that, most of the lures I bang bottom with don't have metal lips - jakes, grandmas, believers, depthraiders, hookers etc
  2. what he said. The one time I fished Cooks Bay for pike was at opener in May. Had to be 50 boats all anchored down there at the bottom end of the Bay fishing live bait under bobbers for pike. We moved around a bit and caught some on artificials. While we were down near the "fleet" we did see that success was being had
  3. some fantastic pictures, looks like a great time!
  4. thats not too bad. Took my wife fishing - pike on first cast, pike on second cast, nothing on 3rd cast and she said "I'm bored". How much longer after the "I'm bored" statement can you really stay? I'm still of the opinion to send her to the spa while you go with a buddy, then you never fear the inevitable "I'm bored". I learned my lesson...the wife no longer comes fishing with me. I don't try and get her to like my hobbies, and fortunately she doesn't try and get me to like hers. Could you imagine if the roles were reversed? "Honey, come spend the day scrap-booking...or "My fat sister is getting married, come spend the day looking at custom napkins for the reception". If its her idea to come fishing, great, go for it. But if you're trying to persuade a city girl who likes to shop and wear pink (ie my wife) I'd say forget it. All day or all 3 hours you're there you'll be concerned that she's having a good time
  5. nailed it!! If it needs to be "city girl Friendly" I wouldn't do it. Let the girls do something they enjoy, you go do something you enjoy.
  6. that was a great watch. Nicely done guys
  7. now thats a pike! right on
  8. I was out front of southshore centre a couple of years back doing the charity event on Kempenfelt Bay when the loudest rumble I ever heard went through. All 867 people with me let out a big gasp, and then a whole bunch of laughter
  9. random to me
  10. they sit scattered all over the attic floor, I grab a few before I go fishing and then they lay scattered around the boat. i have tried a few ways to store musky spinnerbaits but haven't found anything good (but cheap too)
  11. Wow just read this whole thread...but am I surprised? These government employess are "experts" though who have worked in the field for years...they couldn't possibly get something wrong could they?? I think that's why many government agencies accomplish nothing - its safer. When they actually do something they screw it up. Better to just do nothing and say you're "studying" it...then when someone else comes into power you start studying something else.
  12. I think you're right. Its really cold for the next day or 2, get a bit above zero for a day or 2, then back to really cold again by Wednesday. I bet even Kemp. Bay freezes over the next day or 2 unless the wind is really howling
  13. its ignorant cold out there this morning. Fingers were stinging within minutes of clearing the driveway...I guess next time I'll put on some gloves
  14. whichever one is not a tiller
  15. I haven't seen the lake in a week or 2, but I did go past the marina in Barrie today and it no longer looked safe, a good portion of the marina had opened up. Super cold the next couple of days should really help
  16. great pictures Bob. To compare the osprey population on your lake going from 1 to 2 to a cormorant population is silly. It was a great picture of an unfortunate musky though!
  17. I believe you've just called government employees smart. If that doesn't discredit anything else you've said I don't know what will.
  18. man that was stupid. The one dummy moves right in the way of a guy who's whipping past only a few feet away???Now I know why I don't own a snowmobile.
  19. good luck hope someone grabs on to this offer
  20. shoot them, feed the homeless. It's a double win. I think I will ask the government for a big 'ol grant to do a 10 year study on feeding cormorants to starving people
  21. you go first
  22. I already unwinterized the boat once (a month ago)...not doing that again. Here's hoping we get some ice soon!
  23. this is getting kind of crazy. Kempenfelt Bay here in town has zero ice on it other than the marina areas...and even the marina looked sketchy today. This may be the latest I've seen in the 7 years I've been here.
  24. that thing is ridiculous
  25. I once had a muskrat come up through the hole, I'm sure even that wouldn't escape the blender
