  1. all I see is a close resemblance to my mother-in-laws hair in the morning
  2. hey thanks Joey! I've been thinking Pigeon for the last couple of years, but just never had the time. With Balsam being closer to home I've mainly gone there and its been good to me, but my last couple of trips to Balsam issued a giant goose egg (pretty sure you guys had a similar result there not too long ago?). Anywho, tired of getting skunked, thought it was time to change it up a little. We found all kinds of great looking spots on our day and a half at pigeon, now just need to find the ones that hold fish.
  3. Last week I had the opportunity to do some last minute musky fishing. It was supposed to be very windy on friday (the day we were going) but what are you going to do? Got a couple of destination options from fellow OFC'ers, and decided to try pigeon lake. I had fished there once before, earlier this year, and we managed a decent fish that day. As suggested by crappieperchhunter, we booked our stay with Joyce from Buckeye. Super friendly woman with an awesome musky hanging in the office...sadly she had no fishing tips to share. 9 a.m. on Friday the water temps were just over 50 degrees, we positioned the boat about 2 cast lengths out from a weed-edge we found and within a few minutes the first fish was on...and then off. It left some evidence though, a couple of scales on the trebles was proof to my buddy I wasn't lying! Not much later this spunky fish fell victim to a sledge. Casting gets pretty cold this time of year so we decided to do some trolling and exploring around the lake. I had heard Nogies creek was a good spot so we decided to troll up that way. Found some awesome drop-offs along the west shore that we zig-zagged across but no luck, did some more casting at the weed-edge a few hundred metres from the bridge with no luck, actually went right into the weeds and I nailed a 4 pound pickerel on a 5 ounce glider bait (dang pesky pickerel)...but as far as musky...no luck. Anyone know the secret to nogies creek please feel free to pm me or post it here! Looked good to us but we saw nothing. After no luck at Nogies we did some more trolling around the top end of the lake, focusing on the 18-25 foot depths, banging bottom with jakes, believers, hookers and depth raiders. My buddy caught a decent fish on a holographic jake, and shortly after that I got this one on a depthraider. That was the end of the fun! By that time of day the wind had really picked up. We wanted to fish the top of big island, but got absolutely soaked by waves crashing the bow...sure was nice to get back to the hotel room and dry off! We had a few hours Saturday morning to get out but the water had dropped to around 46 degrees and fishing was off. I lost what felt to be a small fish, and my buddy had a lazy follow by a mid 30's fish when we were crazy enough to cast. Thanks again to crappieperchhunter for the suggestion, things worked out great for a last minute trip. If anyone knows how to increase the size of these pictures please go ahead...I suck at computer.
  4. cudz showed his pics, where's yours?
  5. Thanks for the tips. Ended up speaking to Joyce today at Buckeye, sounds like a very fine lady! We're gonna give Pigeon a shot.
  6. I'm in the same boat as you....why didn't I buy a bigger boat with a canopy!
  7. Woohoo, get to go musky fishing Friday and then Saturday morning as well! I do almost all of my fishing on Balsam because its closest to home and usually I only have half a day to get out. With more time on my hands I'm looking to try out some new waters. Was thinking Pigeon or Lower Buckhorn or anywhere else that sounds reasonable. The key is, I'll need accomodations for one night. Anyone know of places that are still open and willing to rent out a cabin for 1 night?
  8. ...hence my "narcissistic ego-maniac" comments earlier. What a disappointing person, good basketball player, but disappointing as a person.
  9. good for you guys! never would enter my mind to night fish this time of year
  10. haha...I was 60% Leafs and 40% watch Heat lose (although I think they are making a run right now)
  11. I'm sure the Heat will win plenty of games, but it sure is fun watching a team like the Celtics mop the floor with them right now. Bosh was a good player on a bad team here in Toronto, but up against some tough competition he always wilts...he's not as good as he thinks he is. Unfortunate that his ego took over, I guess when everyone tells you you are awesome you begin to believe it and throw all humility out the window. Really too bad because he seemed like a good kid when he first got here, now a narcissistic ego-maniac.
  12. holy smokes what a fish!
  13. bingo...this person is regularly upset about one thing or another, just that type of personality I guess. I need to find a delicate way to explain that the fisherman had the right to be there, and it was not their responsibility to get out of the way when they saw him coming.
  14. Thanks for all the info...it appears to be unanimous. The funny thing is, the neighbour was going on and on about how these guys don't know the rules, probably don't have an operators card etc. He was so convinced he was right almost had me doubting...thought ,maybe there was a "no fishing in a narrow part of a lake" clause I wasn't aware of!
  15. he had a spotter, but according to the fisherman he was also looking back at the boarder. It was actually the spotter that fell in the boat and got hurt when the boat swerved/hit something along shoreline. There aren't any posted no wake zones on our lake. When a lake gets to a certain width is it automatically a no wake zone or does something have to be posted to be considered a no wake zone.?
  16. yipes, that's crazy Wayne, the length people will go to make a point! I don't think this guy was trying to make a point though. The renters tell me he was looking back at the kid on the wakeboard, not watching where he was going. Story checks out if you ask me. If you were watching, you'd see those fisherman from a km away. you could just stay at that end of the lake until they drift out of the "channel", or slow down a bit as you pass them...not swerve at the last second and hit something along the shoreline
  17. Thanks guys, I always felt this to be the case, but because the guy was so angry I just let him vent rather than argue! Unfortunately a person in the powered boat got a bit hurt (stitches), that boat also received damage, and the neighbour ended up being so angry with the fisherman he made their life miserable and they ended up leaving their vacation early to avoid dealing with him. Kind of a lose lose lose (the last lose is me...I refunded party of the rent because I felt badly that they had a negative experience).
  18. He complained to me saying they were "right in the channel"...even though we have no channel, just some spots that are narrower than others.
  19. My cottage neighbour is very upset about something that happened this summer, just wondered if someone could give me some insight as to who is at fault. Here's the scenario: 2 guys (my renters) were fishing with the motor shut off, drifting slowly with the wind. My neighbour was out pulling a relative behind his boat on a wakeboard. Our lake is a few kms long, but in some areas only 150-200 feet across. It is long and straight, so you can see almost the entire length of the lake. The guys who were fishing drifted into one of the narrower areas of the lake, and were apparently right in the middle of it (so maybe 50 - 75 feet on either side to pass). The boat with the wakeboard came right towards them, swerved at the last second and a person in that boat fell and got hurt. We are a small inland lake, there is no marked channel. According to my neighbour they should not have been fishing there, and it was their responsibility to start their motor and get out of the way when they saw him coming. I was always under the impression that the boat without power had the right away. Does the width of the area involved, or the fact they were fishing and not simply stalled have any bearing on who is at fault?
  20. I got out there just before the week-end with similar results. One small ski for our efforts, lots of promising looking water.
  21. I'm not getting too excited about the start but its better than losing the first 2. Lets face it they beat 2 borderline playoff teams.
  22. man those are some GIANT fish. (next time tell a little fib though and say you caught it off the dock...its not really a "fish story" until there's a lie or 2 involved!)
  23. good on you for helping...next time ask first if they plan on releasing the fish! If its "no" just take off :whistling: Just kidding of course (...or am I )
  24. holy smokes where are you fishing (and how often)! I wanted to get a new musky rod/reel which I did - curado 300 teamed up with an 8 foot compre
  25. Never been in one but the terms "Sun Dolphin" and "Pro" just don't seem to go together for me.
