  1. Awesome. Your kids look like they had a blast on the ice. In many ways, I find that it's much easier to bring kids ice fishing as opposed to boat or shore fishing. I always end up taking my 4 year old son fishing with me so much more during the winter time.
  2. Great stuff right there!!! She sure looked like she had a great time. It must've been great to be out on the ice just the two of you.
  3. Brookies and walleyes = my 2 favourite species. That looks like a dream trip to me right there!!!
  4. Beauty brookies, awesome lookin' male. I'm eagerly awaiting for 1st ice brookies around these parts...
  5. Here's my advice to you: BE PROUD OF THE STREAK. One craving at a time, one day at a time, eventually you'll rack up an impressive non-smoking streak. So impressive in fact that you could never imagine breaking it... Never!!! Over 10 years now and my streak is still going...
  6. You also had me fooled with that giant eye pic. Great pair of eyes nonetheless!
  7. Yep, not much on that one... In all of my years hiking/portaging deep in the wilderness, I have never come across a single plant.
  8. Great trip with some beauty specimens doc. If one is willing to pay the price like you did, the brookie gods will always be generous. Great effort getting back there and that was one sweet report man.
  9. I get it several times a year. It's now to the point where it doesn't really bother me anymore as I have it most of the summer months. When it's a little annoying, I'll use rubbing alcohol. Once it dries, I'll put on some calamine lotion. If it gets bad, I'll buy some over the counter cortisone cream. If it's out of control, I go to my doc and he'll prescribe cortisone pills which makes everything go away.
  10. Thanks for the comments gang! Yes indeed, they are naturals. This is the main reason why I only fish this lake once or twice a year. I really don't want to put too much pressure on such a small but magical lake. I've respectfully fished it with great success for the last 20 years and hopefully for the next 20 as well.
  11. I've been fishing this tiny lake for 20 years now. The fishing is fantastic but I only fish up here once or twice a year at most. If you're up here at the right time, they're on fire. Up here, they always put up a great fight. Pure beauty lives up here. 16 inch brook trout such as this nice female are fairly common in tiny lakes up here. A nice fat 16 inch male speck from up here. Now that was a great day of brookie fishing up here in the backwoods!!!
  12. Wow, great family vacation right there. I thoroughly enjoyed this report. Your little guy sure looks like a young pro while fighting and handling numerous walleyes and pike.
  13. Wow, the girth on that beast is astonishing. A trophy like this beauty is hands down the holy grail of trout.
  14. Thanks guys, next weekend I'll be out chasing brookies once again. Hopefully I hook into a few males that are sporting their gorgeous fall colours.
  15. Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah, my butt is in the water. Next time I purchase a float tube, I'll definitely buy one like the one that you have. I bought mine at Canadian tire 5 years ago when it was on a crazy sale. Regular price was 150$ and it was on sale for 50$. At that price I went ahead and purchased 2. This way, I always bring someone with me when I go float tubing.
  16. I haven't gone out to fish for nearly three months now. A new addition to the family can really put a damper on one's fishing plans. However, I did manage to get out with the Mrs. and my son a little while back but it was more about giving the little man a ride in the float tube than actually fishing. This time around, both kids stayed at home with some relatives so that the Mrs. and I could go chase some brookies for a couple of hours. You know that you really want to go fishing when you drive for 2.5 hours, hike for an hour, and actually fish for a little under two hours. But hey, you do what you gotta do just to get out there and enjoy the time you have on the water even if it's quite limited. I caught a couple, missed a few, and this 16 inch speck was the highlight of this short session. With fall just around the corner, trout season ending in the next few weeks and walleye prime time coming up, I'll surely hit the water again in the near future.... I can't wait to get back out there!!!
  17. Wow, some freakin' beautiful MONSTER specimens right there. Great report Dan and fantastic pics to boot. A few years back I saw lots of pollen in a brookie lake that I fish. I didn't know what it was (until now) and it had me worried about the future state of the lake.
  18. If you're french then the answer is: A If you're english, the answer should still be: A but the english folk pronounce it as: B
  19. Wow great walleye right there Simon, congrats.
  20. Great father/son report right there!!! Inspiration for us dads who have young sons. I can't wait to bring my 3 year old on a trip like that one day.
