The not so good old days. Where's Dilligaf?

Smallies are everywhere. Walleyes/Pickerel will always be taken with a jig and worm in that area. I've used 30 lb braid with a flouro leader the last few years and it's made a big difference. The fishing is still fantastic up there. You won't likely be traveling up to Nip so i would look for deeper weedlines. The closer you get to the lake, the deeper the water. You'll be constantly taking the weeks off the jig but that's where the fish are. Try to search my older posts and you'll see what's waiting for you. Never had night fog up there.

Hey Lew, time to come out of retirement and start your own show! I bet Lew's would sponsor you!

That's where I'm going . . . -
Thanks Lew. I still check in and it's great to see your smile!

Hi Roy, remember me? Miss you pal. I'm not around much either. The pay sucks and one of the guys in charge is too liberal for me.

Don't want to hijack this thread but I just posted a report from our trip. How's it going Lew?

Another great week at Sandy Haven Camp on Nip/Upper French. Been going there for over 35 years and its about as good as it's ever been. Three generations of Dietz boys hit the Nipissing grand slam. Boated two muskies, had hooks in two more and numerous follows. The walleye bite was hot with 40-50 fish days and limits of keepers. Bass fishing, smallies and largemouth, was real good too. That place is on fire!

Nice fish. They keep bumping the minimums on Nip and the fish are getting bigger. We had a fantastic time up there last week. Multiple 40-50 fish days with plenty of keepers, all between 9:30 am - 3:30 pm. We fished muskies before breakfast and after dinner. Most walleyes were in the 15-18 inch range but we went home with our limit of keepers.

It was a great game. He finally got that W.

Alright folks, I haven't posted much in the last few years but I can't help myself on this one. Never thought I'd be a Jays fan and I am trying to figure out a way to make this post fishing related so here goes. Give some support to this kid. He's my nephew and since I'm a moderator and have been around here since the early days, he has a blood connection to OFNC. It's been a great ride so far and we're hoping he keeps it rolling. If any of you attend Jays games, let me know if you're going to be at any of the games he pitches. I'll probably be there. Trent Thornton:

Thanks Gents. All good. Don't think the tensioner was the issue because the reel casted like a charm, it was just tough to retrieve. I pull the reel apart, reassembled it and it works like a charm. Who knows.

Bought a used Abu C4 left handed version for my son. Although it technically used, it was only used once and the owner hated using a baitcaster and dumped it. It's spooled with PowerPro and it looks like it was never in the water. For some reason, it's a little difficult to crank. I took it apart to check lubrication and when I took off the right side plate, it reeled smoothly. Looks well-lubricated. When I put the side plate back on, it's tough to retrieve again. If I loosen the screws again, it's easy to retrieve. I'm confused why tightening the side plate appears to be the issue. Any thoughts?

Thanks for that comment. It has even more meaning when you know that my mother (the wife of the guy on the left and the grandmother of the kid on the right) unexpectedly passed away two weeks before that photo was taken. My dad wasn't going to go on this trip because he didn't want my mother to be alone that week but after she passed, he agreed that she would want him to go. That trip was about much more than the fish caught.

I'm a little late in posting the report but the fishing was on fire a few weeks ago on Nip and the Upper French during our annual trip to Sandy Haven Camp. Can't count the number of walleyes. We had multiple 60+ days. The bass fishing was fantastic and even though we didn't target muskies much, we had two follows and caught a number of decent pike. Can't wait till next year!

There's no question that they have some impact on the fishing on Nip. However, we were up there from July 28 - August 4 and we had the best fishing we've had up there in over 30 years. We had multiple 60+ days of walleyes between 15-27 inches (many above 18"). We also had a blast with smallmouth and largemouth. We didn't target muskies as much as we used to but when we did, we caught some decent pike. We found the walleyes in 30+ feet of water.

Dude, I think about you every so often. How's things? Where are you living in PA?

I need directions.

DIrt's first deer.

We got 3 last week near the mouth of the French. Walleyes were on fire too. Most just under 18" but the fishing was fantastic.

Very sad to hear. Shared some great times. My deepest sympathies extend to his family.

I needed that.
