  1. you'll probably have to drill a few holes before you find a hole or edge of weeds.
  2. Not much of a report this time. i got fishing around 2pm, and I didn't even catch a fish until well after 4pm. there were a lot of people in my usual spot, so i moved and found another one. ended up with a couple walleyes (18" and 20.5"), a few rockbass, a couple small crappies, and a decent perch. the larger walleye weighed in at 3.5 Lbs, a very fat 20.5" walleye. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1203998620 both fish had some old battle wounds... http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1203998637 http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1203998653 and the scale weighing the bigger of the two... http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1203998671
  3. the spot that i go to doesn't have any parking that i know of... i park at my friend's cottage and walk out on the ice from there. but you can park at Goreski's (Platten Blvd. i believe) which is on the West shore of the island. the guys that i've been talking to have done very well in that area this year. hope this helps a little more.
  4. I just fillet them as i would any other fish, then cut the strip of "Y" bones out... it's just like removing that strip of bones from behind the rib cage of any other fish... on a pike it's just a longer strip that you have to cut out. 25-30 inch fish are prime for eating... you'll get enough meat off of those to make it worth while. you can keep the smaller ones, but you'll find that you don't get a LOT of meat after removing all the bones. And it's generally better to release the bigger fish. hope this helps!
  5. look for a weed edge in around 6-8 feet of water. you'll be able to get most species of fish in scugog from that type of habitat.
  6. if you are going to pine pt you will have to go through port perry and you'll be passing the causeway baitshop. pine pt is on the east shore of the island.
  7. I've had great success on scugog so far this year, i've caught something every time out so far. and the ice was somewhere around 15 inches where i was fishing, a little slick, but the water should be frozen now after the cold we had today.
  8. it took a couple good runs. i was running 6lb test, so it was fun! i was only in 6 fow so the battle didn't last too long.
  9. that's a beauty lake trout. looks like an awesome trip!
  10. i went ice fishing... might as well... my parents were at my sister's hockey game and my brother was doing a shift at the hospital. so i would have been sitting at home all by myself if i didn't get out fishing!
  11. one quick note... there was a lot of water on top of the ice... up to 3 or 4 inches in some spots
  12. Hey guys, i had another respectable day out on the ice today. left ajax just before noon and i was fishing by 1:00. i had a few hits right off the bat, not sure what they were, lost a couple right at the hole due to one of the hooks of the treble hooking the bottom edge of the hole and the fish shaking off. this actually happened 2 times in a row. they were definitely bigger than perch, but i didn't get a look at them. i got my first fish around 2:30ish. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1203392724 4Lb 6oz Largemouth then i got a few perch within the next hour, nothin to brag about, only about 8 inches each. then around 3:30ish i get another bass, around 2.5 - 3 Lbs and another one about a pound (no pictures). another half hour to an hour passes without a bite then i get this up to our side of the ice... http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1203392750 a beautiful little Lake Scugog muskie, somewhere around 23 - 25 inches i estimate. i figured it was just a matter of time before i pulled up one of these through the ice. then after the muskie i got a whole lot of nothing until the sun started to go down. then the crappies moved in and it was fairly steady until i left at 6:30ish. i also got a rockbass as the sun was setting too (about 8 or 9 inches). biggest crappie was a little shy of 14 inches. smallest was 9 inches. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1203392773 i brought 9 crappies home for dinner, and they were delicious! http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1203392795
  13. Have a good trip steve! by the way, i just sent you a message on facebook. i figure you would probably check this site before you check the other.
  14. during daylight hours the only thing i've caught on Scugog is Perch and LM Bass, actually i did get 1 Walleye. Although most Walleye and Crappies are caught as the sun is going down, or right into the night. Good job on those Perch. There are a lot of 10-12 inch Perch coming out of Scugog this year. It's been a great winter for that lake so far!
  15. from my experiences, it's usually best to keep your shore fishing spots to yourself and maybe a few CLOSE friends. otherwise it turns into a zoo in no time. especially if it's posted on one of these sites. sorry i can't help ya, but i'm sure you'll find the same attitude with most board members about sharing shore spots.
  16. hahaha, this is the third site i've seen this on! good job!
  17. 64*F! Damn! that's almost 18*C! that's beginning of June weather around here! I've got a question though... what's the relation or difference between a Spotted Bass and a Largemouth Bass??? they look very similar. I'm not sure we have Spotted Bass up here...
  18. ...figuratively of course i've got a '95 Nissan Altima, with 235,000kms. i bought it 2.5 years ago and i've put almost 50,000kms on it myself. so i've had pretty good use out of it. Although i have put a lot of money into it, especially in the last year. i've replaced the entire exhaust from front to back including the catalytic converter and muffler, front and back brakes, among a couple other things... also, this past boxing day i get into my car and the battery light is on... needs a new alternator! so me being a broke college student, and it being just after christmas, i finally had some money in my pocket... NOPE !!! so anyways, this morning i was on my way to school, i had a test in my first class so i left home early so that i would get there in plenty of time. i almost made it to the Whitby/Oshawa border when i smelled anti-freeze, i thought to myself, this can't be good ... then the smoke started pouring in through the vents and into the interior of the car, then out the hood of the car... GREAT!!! the only good news is that it wasn't the engine overheating... long story short, the tow truck shows up after an hour of waiting. we get the car to my mechanic and i go home and wait for his call... the radiator is cracked, and can't be fixed of course . it's gonna cost me over $400 for parts and labour etc... etc... i'm really getting sick of putting money into this car because it probably wont make it to next winter anyways. besides, the next thing that could go, could be the engine... i haven't had any problems with that yet so obviously that would be the next to go right? so this is my last year of college, and i'm thinking of using the last of my student loan and getting a new vehicle (used obviously). since there is no possible way of me paying off my loan right after graduating anyway, i might as well use the money now... i'll be paying interest on the full amount either way! so, anyone know of any cheapish vehicles around the Durham Region? i would love to get a truck, something bigger than what i've got now... i've got a lot of fishing gear
  19. it is probably not good for the lake, but neither are boat motors... out in Newfoundland they use motor oil as an attractant, can't see why WD40 wouldn't work.
  20. Try Scugog, that lake is full of big crappie, i've got a few over 13" already this winter... biggest being 14", not sure the weight, but definitely 1.5 lbs for sure. Nice looking fish you've got there Greencoachdog. i can't wait to get out on the soft water. 3 more months to go!
