  1. just to add on to what i wrote earlier, on my Ultra-Light Cherrywood i have caught a couple 6Lb Smallmouth Bass, and it is still in one piece.
  2. Shimano is usually pretty reliable, can't comment on that exact model however. the cherrywood series seems to be a hit or miss for some reason... my dad broke one, i think a 6', maybe a 6'6" casting model. but my brother and i haven't had a problem yet, mine is a 5'6" Ultra Light spinning, and my brother's is the same as yours, the 7' spinning model. but if you think about it, the rod itself, i believe, is sold for a little more than $30 in stores anyways. so it sounds like you got an alright deal there. i'm sure the scratches on the reel are superficial. if any of them are substantial and have a "sharp" feel to the touch, i would file them down just in case it comes into contact with the line.
  3. by my count it is a 1 in 5 shot at getting first pick... making it 20%, not 25%.
  4. maybe, but immediately after he got up, they started chanting "leafs suck"... the building was pretty quiet after they scored in the empty net though... Bahahaha
  5. i went a week and a half ago on the opposite side of the lake, on both sunday and monday (Jan 27th & 28th). got into some good perch, lots of crappie, a walleye, and a few largemouth bass. minnows on a swedish pimple worked best.
  6. LEAFS WIN!!! and for those saying that the leafs should finish dead last just to get the first pick overall... the first 5 draft picks are not based chronologically on 30, 29, 28, 27, and 26th places in the final standings... those final 5 teams are put into a lottery (picking names out of a hat essentially). so even if the leafs come dead last in the NHL this year, they could still get the 5th draft pick overall... it sucks, and i don't like that method, but it's just the way she goes!
  7. i agree! that was awful! it wasn't much of an injury, but still, most places will cheer for a guy when he gets up off the ice.
  8. well, i'm definitely not going to disagree that the leafs are horrible this year, but they had a solid team in 01-02, finished 4th in the conference, but only 1 pt behind the Bruins for first place in the East. then in 03-04 (the year before the lockout) again they finished 4th in the conference and only 3 pts out of first place in the East. So, Yes, this will be the 3rd year in a row without a playoff berth, but we did have a couple respectable teams in the 2000's. now i'm just hoping that they don't make another 8th place playoff run and come 1 or 2 points behind a playoff spot. i want a high draft pick for once. i hope they are in the 5 team lottery for the first 5 draft picks... they obviously wont win the lottery though, that would mean that they would have to win something. bahahaha
  9. Dude!?!? where was the invite?!?! joking! good job on the whities! those are nice lookin fish! look's like i'm probably going to scugog on monday (tomorrow... technically today) for crappies and walleye, i know you said you've got class till 5 on mondays, but, after this coming weekend, i'll be free, you wanna hit the bog the week after maybe? send me a message on facebook!
  10. Taj Mahal! BAHAHAHA!!! i'm pretty sure that thing took up more than half of the back of your truck! hahaha i remember that day well, when that wind picked up, damn, it was stinking freezing!
  11. i was looking into that last night actually... there is nothing in the new regs that say you can't travel with minnows to another location. under crayfish, it is stated that you can't bring them to another body of water of which they were originally found. the only thing that i could find was the original news posting which was back in January of last year. since it's not in the new regs, i'm assuming that the ban has been lifted.
  12. that's awesome! i still remember my first pike. i was shakin at the knees for over an hour afterwards. looks like you almost lost the camera when that thing started floppin around.
  13. they can be caught all day long, but they are primarily night feeders like the walleye
  14. they just changed the regs this year, crappie are now open Jan 1st - Last day in Feb, and 4th saturday in april - Nov 15.
  15. I'm making monday my weekly trip to scugog since i finish school at 1pm, and port perry is only 15-20 minutes away from durham college. it's pretty convenient. hopefully i can find that spot again. it's hard to find a hole in the weeds in that lake.
  16. dude, check your facebook, i just sent you a message, you can come out next time.
  17. I got out of classes today at 1pm from durham college, and drove up to Scugog for another evening of fishing. hoping for a repeat of last night. Well, i went out to the same holes that i fished last night, broke out the ice that had formed since i had left, and started fishing. the perch fishing was fairly steady through the afternoon hours, and ended up with a couple keepers, one of which was 11". one of the guys i was fishing with had a few of the same size. as the sun started to go down i knew the walleye and crappie bite would be starting up, so i switched to my jigging rod and proceeded to search through my minnow bucket for the largest minnow available. started jigging my swedish pimple and large minnow... and i waited... and waited... and waited some more. until finally i hook something. i get it up to the hole, and wouldn't you know it... another dang Largemouth! this one was only about a pound. That is my 7th Largemouth of 2008! i get the next biggest minnow and proceed the same as before. soon after i get a good bite, and a nice 13" crappie is on the ice. my new PB crappie. again, biggest minnow i could find, and down the hole you go. jigging for a few minutes, BAM. now i've got a 14" crappie on the ice. a new PB crappie, again... the previous PB didn't stand for very long, did it? it's kinda like in an Olympic race and 2 runners beat the world record, but only one of them wins the race. hahaha. anyways, i ended up with probably a dozen perch, about the same amount of crappies, and a largemouth... no walleyes tonight. here are the two big crappies http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1201580632
  18. Scugog is generally better late afternoon and into dark. i've never caught anything more than a few perch in the morning. unless we're fishing in the summer, and that's another story all together.
  19. Hey everyone, it's been a while since i've done a report of my own on here, but i think this one is worth while. This was my third trip to Scugog this year, and so far, i've got 1 perch, 1 walleye, and 3 largemouths... 2 of which were 2Lbs. So, anyways, last night i decided that i wanted to do some fishing, and i decided to go to Scugog again, becuase my buddy has a cottage there, and he was up for the weekend. although he never actually came out fishing with me, him and his buddy were out on a snowmobile trek. the day started off with me crawling my sorry @ss out of bed around noon sunday, had some leftovers from dinner last night (chicken and steak), GREAT start to the day! Left the house around 1:00 and with a short stop at the Causeway baitshop, i was fishing by about 2:30ish. It took about a half hour to get my first bite, a respectable 9" perch... and within the next hour and a half i had 5 perch (all the same size) on the ice. the next 30 minutes were really slow, and i didn't even get a bite. so, i changed my lure from a jigging rap to my new swedish pimple. stuck a minnow on that, dropped it down the hole, BAM, 11" perch on the ice... i thought i was on Simcoe for a second. re-baited the pimple, dropped it down the hole, BAM, WOW, this fish has some weight! It starts taking some drag, the next thing i know, my tip-up rod is almost down the hole, which was about 10 feet away... of course it was the fish that i was fighting that wrapped itself up with my other line. i managed to get over to the other line and release the bail on the reel. and after a great 5 minute battle i landed this monster... http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1201497948 This is all i could fit into the picture, my camera was a full arms length away from me. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1201497972 I couldn't believe the size of the thing when its head popped through the hole. it was 20 inches and between 4 and 5 Lbs. back she goes into the drink. another 10 minutes of fishing... http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1201497994 1.5-2Lb Largemouth, again, back she goes. By this time the sun starts to go down, but before it could i end up with a nice walleye, about 19" and a couple crappie both around 9 or 10 inches. the rest of the night i had a pretty steady crappie bite until about 6:30. most of the crappies were about 10", with one being 11", and one being 12". http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b75/gone...pg?t=1201498016 i also ended up with another largemouth and a small rock bass before the night was done.
  20. Thanks guys, looking forward to trying a new lake!
  21. i'm going up to Diamond Lake near Bancroft in a couple weeks and i'd love to get into a couple Lakers. the problem is, i've never fished the lake before, and my dad's friend, who's cottage we're going to, hasn't really fished it either. so, if anyone here has ice fished there for lake trout, what depth should i be looking for and what baits have worked in the past? also, are there other species available like whitefish, walleye or even pike in Diamond Lake? or is it mainly just lake trout? Thanks!
  22. that is filthy, i can't believe you picked that up. must have been quite a stink!
  23. either that was a small pike or a BIG crappie! cool pic!
