Max the HP!! I have a 16ft Starcraft with a 40 2 stroke and get 30MPH on GPS. I don't need all the power all the time, but it sure is nice in rough water to have that little bit of umpf when I need it!!! Sinker

Whats the boat rated for? Seems a little big for a 40, but if it has a 50 on it, maybe that's what its rated for? Check the HP rateing on the plate on the transom. You want to have as close to max HP as you can. A 40 is better than nothing, but you may be underpowered if you get into a "situation" on the water. A 4 stroke 40 or 50 will troll down no problem.....I troll with a 2 stroke 40 with no prob.....I can get it down to 1.5MPH. If I need to go slower, I use the electric. There is also the option of a trolling plate.....lots of guys on this board use them I believe. Sinker

WOW.....those are some HUGE whities!! WTG guys.....might see ya's out there over the weekend! Sinker

Only time I fish Benoir is thru the ice for eyes.......its hit or miss. On softwater, I stick to elephant. Lots of fish, but I mainly target musky there........I do get into lots of bass and pike as well though. Mostly fishing the weed flats mid-lake. There are some good bass in there......TONS of pike now! You should really head to elephant......its not that far of a run. Right at the mouth of the river where it comes into elephant is great fishing. Sinker

I don't understand the question. Any minnow will work if its presented right..... Sinker

That right there has to be one of the best quotes I've heard on here in a long time. I agree!! There is no right/wrong way to keep your fish. I prefer to kill them and put them on ice.......I can't stomach fish that are in a livewell floating belly up.....hence, the cooler of ice IF I'm fishing for dinner. I still like my tiller though Sinker
-
I wouldn't be able to eat those floaters in your "livewell" GCD.....that just turns me off......nothing worse than floating dead fish.....prolly warm water too. EWWW. Wack em and put them on ice if your keeping them to eat. I took out the livewell and carry lots of goodies in there, so they're out of the way, but still in easy reach. If I'm fishing for dinner......I have the cooler with ice. My bait also goes in a cooler......with ice cold water. With a tiller, there is LOTS of room on the floor of my boat Sinker

Mine just seems to fill up with "junk"......but its all stuff I "have to have" when I go fishing!! No livewell, and a TILLER.....the perfect boat
-
I whack em' and stack em........ON ICE.......right away. Always a cooler of ice in the boat if I'm fishing for dinner. In the winter I bury them in snow.....right after I whack em......my livewell was the first thing I took out of the boat.....makes a great storage compartment. Sinker

Yup, Carra's sent me in the right direction when I headed out there too......everything he told me was absolutly true....even took the time to show us where to go on the map.......we did very well. I'll be making the stop there everytime I head out that way from now on for sure!! He's got lots of great hunting gear as well......that's always a bonus WTG on the eyes....... Sinker

Yup, beautiful country up in that area for sure......I haven't been up there for a few years now. Sure is nice when you can pull lakers/whities/walleye from the same hole eh!! Gotta love it!! Thanks for the report, and the reminder than I HAVE to hit that area before the ice season is over!! Sinker

A 9:1 ratio is for a friggen gale force storm on the north atlantic!!! 900 ft of rope to hold in 100 FOW.....come on!!! Have fun hauling that back up....LOL. 2:1 is plenty for Simcoe......if its that rough, you aren't gonna be out there fishing!! I have 100ft on my anchor, and another 100ft just in case. MORE than enough to anchor my boat in "fishable" weather. If I need the other 100ft of rope......its getting too rough to be out there...... I got a 200' spool of 1/2" braided nylon rope at CT for around $75. Sinker

Where do I put my Jiffy? Other than that.....pretty slick machine.

You have your stopper WAY too tight if its damaging your line. I run slip floats ALL the time, and never pull them tight!!! I find Braid actually makes for a great bobber stop......if tied right. I only use braid for musky. All other rods are mono. 8lb mono is more than enough for most situations IMO. I use nothing but Berkely.....XL up to 8lb, and XT for 8lb or over. Always have....so why change now? Sinker

Shoulda got a CAT......

Sure sounds like a choke issue to me.....I"m no mechanic though....just an educated guess. Does it run OK once you get it started?
-
We could use a little bit to clean things up a little. It will make the ride on sled across simcoe a little softer too......Bring it on I say!! Sinker
-
Are you sure the choke is working?
-
WOW.....I bet you'll be keeping a few more perch from now on eh.....LOL. Looks good for the first time......the filleting get easier the more you do it!! Sinker
-
That was a very interesting video......I've always wondered what those whities are doing down there!! Awesome stuff there!! Thanks for posting that.......and keep them coming!! Sinker
-
Well there ya go.....I had no idea you could ice fish there. I always though it was the same as the kawartha lakes.....no icefishing. Learn something new everyday......thanks! Sinker
-
Are you sure you can ice fish there? I don't know for sure off hand, but I'd check and double check the regs for there. I'm pretty sure its not open to icefishing......I could be wrong!! Sinker
-
This adds an extra day to the icefishing season on Scugog and Quinte.......I'm not complaining! Get out there and fish!! Sinker

It can be done no prob, as long as you are in decent shape, and don't mind a good hike. There are spots where its not too far a walk up around barrie.....Big Bay Point or Bear Point. Innisfil beach is another decent spot I hear, but not as close as BBP or BP. Just buck up and hike er' out there.....its not that far really. Takes about 30 mins to go 1.5 miles hauling all my gear. Prime walking conditions right now too!!! Sinker

I have a small oil furnace in the garage.....works great. Set the thermostat and your good to go. Now if I could only get my garage cleared out I'd be all set.......it sucks storing things for people! Sinker
