  1. Evac order was lifted on Wednesday at 1 pm. I got home about 7 pm last night. Home and stuff in town is OK and as far as I know my cabin is OK.

  2. Talked to my cabin neighbour today. They got back on Wednesday the first day we were allowed back. They went to the cabin on Friday and all is good. Lots of black flies being a pain though. The lake level has dropped even more while we were away. They hit bottom when pulling out their boat at the ramp. They do have a 20' Kingfisher with cabin so they do draw more water than most boats on the lake.

  4. Hey folks, Hit the Kawarthas today with a good friend. Great day weather-wise and the fish were pretty cooperative but mostly small sized! We caught a a few dozen bass, but most under 12". Several were in the 14" range, and couple over 16" and one largemouth close to 3lbs. All fish except for the LM were smallies... had a small muskie follow too! So for the first time I used a drop shot rig and boy does that thing work well!! Often first cast in every new spot was a hit. Used mostly Roboworms and some minnow-like plastic that looked pretty natural. I also used a spy bait (the cheaper ones from bass pro not those crazy expensive Japanese ones! They work ok too.. Interesting bait. The fish hit the spy usually when it was paused. As for the drops shot, I was using 1/4 weight (all I had) but next time I will get some different sizes like 1/8. We targeted shoals, drop offs, weed lines and got in the weeds too. One thing I noticed is that the weeds are starting to look ragged.. in some cases lots of algae growth on them. I guess this is normal at the end of the summer?

  6. The last couple of weeks of September/first few weeks of October on a nice warm stable weather pattern…you will probably have some of the best fishing days of your life. im talking, throwing back 2 and 3lbers with disgust because they aren’t big enough. These past couple of weeks, you can lock in on them and they are stacked up when you find them, they are just deep and the spots won’t be blatantly obvious. Yesterday we didn’t catch a fish over 2lbs unless it was 20fow or as I referenced as deep as 50. It seems to change like a light switch though, no different than other animals that migrate, when they decide it’s time, they make their move. to be honest, we’re almost hopeful that they don’t move this week, we spent so much damn time pre fishing for the derby next week and the big fish pattern is so hard that if it gets easier it’s to our detriment lol. Id rather it stay super tough, it will eliminate most of the field!

  8. Sunline fc sniper. I only use straight fluro on hard bait bait casting set ups. Like for cranking and spybaiting. straight mono for jerkbaits braid to fluro or straight braid for essentially everything else. topwater use mono for your leader because it floats.

  9. Very challenging time of year to target smallmouth, they are deep and scattered. You’ll find a lot up shallower but they will essentially all be small. I just spent over 30 hours this weekend targeting smallmouth exclusively. in a couple of weeks, maybe even a week, suddenly that will change and you will start coming across them again up shallower and putting on the fall feedbag. put it this way, I was pulling out of an area today and noticed a mark on livescope in 49fow caught my biggest fish of the day. weeds are starting to die off, just like the leaves are changing on the trees.

  10. Surprising there hasn't been an uproar over this, plastic factory that makes the "forever" plastics, not good for anything. Once it's in the system, you can't get rid of it. Lets poison some more water bodies. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/forever-chemicals-plant-north-bay-1.6910158

  11. You are right to be concerned about the proposed plastic factory in North Bay, Ontario. The factory would produce PFAS, or "forever chemicals," which are a class of synthetic chemicals that are known to be harmful to human health and the environment. PFAS can accumulate in the body over time and have been linked to a number of health problems, including cancer, thyroid disease, and decreased fertility. They can also contaminate water supplies and harm wildlife.

  12. Well there's always those "accidental spills" and things that get swept down the sewer which goes...into the waterways.

  14. Thanks guys. I figured spinner baits would be in there. Suicks wen ti be classics. Always come up as a great lure. I am not a musky fisherman but want to give it a more serious try. I'm one hour from Waubaushene/Severn sound and 90 min from Kawartha musky so I figure those would be great places to start! when I was about 13 my late dad and I rented a boat at port Severn. It was bloody hot and we weren't catching much. I was losing interest pretty hard that day when all of a sudden my dad hooks into a massive musky on a cheap crappy tire plastic spinner type bait. Honestly the lure probably cost .50 and was about 3" long at the most. The water was very clear and not deep at all - maybe 8'. I remember I could see the bottom without a problem. Anyhow when it hit his lure it went straight to the boat and then went under the boat! Must have been at least 4 feet long. Our cheap gear had no chance. I don't even think he had the drag set properly. The line snapped quick once it went under the boat. I will never forget that experience over 35 years ago.... etched in my memory since. I'm pretty sure I had to change my underpants when I got home! 😂 I've only had one other musky follow since. That was on the burnt river a couple of years ago. thanka for the suggestions!
