riverwader Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 Does anyone have a suggestion for a lodge within a 5 to 6 hour drive from Toronto to do some early October Pike fishing? We have never fished eastern Ontario this late in the season. I assume the pike will be somewhat shallow. Not sure what to expect, or what areas to explore. Any advice would be very appreciated.
CrowMan Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 Once the weeds die off and water temps cool off in autumn, Pike move out of the back bays and go deeper. Look for drop-offs or any remaining deep green weed edges adjacent deeper basins where they'll spend the winter. Great time to fish for them, as they're hungry, and (if present) looking to intercept Ciscoes and Whitefish in deeper water. Lake Nippissing and the north channel of Lake Huron (mouth of the Spanish River and Whalesback Channel) are good bets for big Pike. I personally like Memquisit Lodge on the west arm of Nippissing, or Brennan Harbour Resort on Huron.
BillM Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 If I was fishing pike in the fall, I'd be fishing them very similar to muskie. They aren't going to be shallow from what I've seen, they'll be deep packing on the lbs for winter. 2
Wallyman Posted September 4 Report Posted September 4 Try Hungry Lake Lodge. Just north of HWY 7 , east of Kaladar Ont. check thier website. regards

You will find some nice lodges around Buckhorn or Stoney Lake, perfect for a short stay. There are no pike in Stoney or Buckhorn lake... I personally would fish georgian bay, plenty of giant pike around that compare to the ones you see on those fly in trips in manitoba and the NWT etc.
riverwader Posted September 5 Author Report Posted September 5 Thanks for all the replies. A neighbor is pushing for the upper French river. Maybe Lunge Lodge. Anyone have experience there.

Anyone have experience there. Fish will be deep eating ciscoes and herring. You'll wanna be fishing main lake points/humps etc. Most guys out there are fishing muskie though, not pike at this time of year.
Hank Jr Posted September 5 Report Posted September 5 My son and I have been to Lunge lodge on several trips . We were after Muskies but boated lots of Pike and Walleye . It is a nice place to stay and plenty of good spots to fish . If you decide to go send me a email I think I still have some maps of the areas we fished and there are several bays where you can catch Big Pike . Tight Lines Hank Flory
