Raycaster Posted March 14, 2021 Report Posted March 14, 2021 Trying to squeeze in some camping/fishing time and the first week of may is available. Unfortunately, Balsam PP is not open? So I am wondering being so early if I should bring the boat at all since most fish are OOS. Would not mind chasing pike if they are available... Actually never been to that park and unsure of boating facilities etc. Any help appreciated, thanks.
porkpie Posted March 15, 2021 Report Posted March 15, 2021 Plenty crappie in the channels on shrewsbury side, at least there used to be.
b_cdot Posted April 4, 2021 Report Posted April 4, 2021 Always lots of aggressive pike in the bay. Lots of good perch fishing to be had in may and june some years too.
RookieReeler17 Posted April 19, 2021 Report Posted April 19, 2021 I've been talking to locals for the last several months + some workers at the Park. It seems that May - June are the best time for getting after them. They do come up to shallow waters to spawn and by the lake map the bay is fairly shallow- not sure how accurate the map was but average was 3-4 feet. Stick to the edges sand/structure use slip bobbers etc. Shrewsbury always comes up in conversation, I'm not a local but I'm only an hour away. Good luck I also will be up that way that weekend! As long as the ramp stays open, which I think it will.
woodenboater Posted April 19, 2021 Report Posted April 19, 2021 (edited) should be lots of info on this Ontario Parks page. basically, camping as far as I know, is not happening. day use is open. http://www.ontarioparks.com/covid19 Edited April 20, 2021 by woodenboater
irishfield Posted April 20, 2021 Report Posted April 20, 2021 Was gonna say... you ain't camping. Day use only until the stay at home order is over..
woodenboater Posted April 20, 2021 Report Posted April 20, 2021 just in time for the 2/4 long weekend
