mistaredone Posted August 2, 2014 Report Posted August 2, 2014 As much fun as it is finding a marine mechanic in muskoka on the long weekend, I'd thought I'd try here first. It seems like to me that my engine isn't getting gas? Every time I prime the ball it seems empty or a little soft? Starting the engine is the main problem. To get it to start I need the choke wide open and let it run high rpms for a few mins and hope it doesn't die putting it in gear. Once it's running it runs fine. Any on the spot trouble shoots I can do?
NANUK Posted August 2, 2014 Report Posted August 2, 2014 Are you using fresh gas ? I would start with a good dose of Seafoam,
cheaptackle Posted August 2, 2014 Report Posted August 2, 2014 Might be going out on a limb here but do you have another gas line and/or tank to try? (borrow maybe?) If the problem duplicates with another tank & line you'll know then it's in the fuel delivery for the motor - either diaphragm or pump. The bulb going soft might indicate the pick up in the tank is fouled or the bulb itself may be the culprit, even the tank line could have some crap in it OR it could even be a cracked line letting air in interupting the fuel flow. Good place to start if you can find another set. Michael
porkpie Posted August 2, 2014 Report Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) Most likely problem is the tank or line. Edited August 2, 2014 by porkpie
ecmilley Posted August 3, 2014 Report Posted August 3, 2014 Most likely line possibly tank see it all the time. Off duty for long weekend woop woop already had 3 people at the door trying to get me out wrenching today
mistaredone Posted August 3, 2014 Author Report Posted August 3, 2014 Now I've had it running it fires first time with no problems? It's done this to me the last few trips. I'll try the seafoam when I get back
bigbuck Posted August 3, 2014 Report Posted August 3, 2014 Check the pickup in the tank, if it is older, our friend ethanol could have ruined the hose. Look carefully.
Wally Posted August 4, 2014 Report Posted August 4, 2014 Pick up line in the tank may be collapsing due to that devil ethanol, makes the line go soft. Had that problems like that in lots of old sleds . Or vent plugged .
Garnet Posted August 4, 2014 Report Posted August 4, 2014 You can take a spray bottle with water and dish soap. Spray your gas line and look for bubbles. And I would get the seafoam now and run it thru the tank and into the carbs our ejectors. This product takes time to work.
