ctered Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 The heat shields that cover the burners on my BBQ are all rusting and falling apart. At $20 a piece and needing 5 of them it will be pricey. I was wondering about making them out of aluminum. I have 1/4 aluminum 5 inches wide that I would be using. Does anyone see a problem using aluminum instead of steel or stainless. Thanks Mark
DOS Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 The aluminum wont hold up to the heat, tried it before, what i did was use an old grill from another bbq, and put the ceramic bricks into it just like the old days, 2 years now and still going... RED
craigdritchie Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 Look for deals on eBay. I recently replaced the three heat shields on our BBQ for $30 in total. It took a few days to have them shipped, but it beat paying the $90 they're asking here.
John Bacon Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 You may be able to buy an aftermarket single piece stainless one for the barbeque. I think I paid about $25 for one a few years ago and I am still using it.
Muskieman Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 I went to a local welding shop an had 10 built for 30$
misfish Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 I went to a local welding shop an had 10 built for 30$ Did mine as well Randy. Nice to work in a shop. As for aluminum. To many toxics for my liking.
ctered Posted August 4, 2013 Author Report Posted August 4, 2013 OK. Thanks for the input. I looked on ebay and have found 4 for $20 which is a lot better than $20 each here.
outllaw Posted August 5, 2013 Report Posted August 5, 2013 funny. years back it was cheap burners. nowadays it shields..
