kickingfrog Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Just saw a show "Mighty Ships" featuring Jumbo Fairplayer a heavy-lift mega ship. It gets 6 meters per litre of fuel. Yes, 6 metres (roughly 19ft) per litre of fuel. I believe that is 16666Litres per 100km, or 0.01411 mpg
captpierre Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 (edited) And they are 4 stroke I'm sure! Edited April 12, 2013 by captpierre
kickingfrog Posted April 12, 2013 Author Report Posted April 12, 2013 Don't know about that, but the fuel they use was described as one step up from asphalt and needs to be heated to enable it to flow.
Rod Caster Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Crazy...fueled with pitch. I'm guessing no fuel filter?
Fisherman Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Far as I know they are actually 2 stoke diesels.
Roy Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 It doesn't appear to be that big a ship. According the GM, fuel mileage may vary... Its current destination is MOSSELBAAI.
danc Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 A co worker fired up a boiler at a pulp mill last week. I'm pretty sure he told that it burns 6 litres of fuel (some type of oil) per minute.
