  1. Boatman,it's a 1973 and an Evinrude. Thanks for the tech info. You obviously know your stuff and the help is appreciated. I passed that info onto my Dad so he'll check it out (he probably already knows LOL). So the fuel recirculating tube is similar to an EGR on a car,(two stroke version I guess). Give me a 69 Camaro and I can work on it no problem, but an outboard is a whole new world to me. I'm going to get my Dad to give me a quick once through before I venture out too far on my own. So 50:1 is the proper ratio? I'm taking it that the factory reccomendation was 30:1 or 40:1 but they run too "fat" when mixed that way? You've got me curious now. Like I said I can jet a Holley, but I have no clue when it comes to a two-stroke. Let me know and thanks again for the info.
  2. No problem,no secrets here. My Dad talked the guy down to $500.
  3. Thanks Garyv. It's a 1973 motor according to the numbers. I have my Dad looking after all the initial checks. Actually he went down and grabbed the boat and motor for me. I called him on the phone for his expertise a couple nights ago. We've both been looking for the right deal to come along and he's had boats since I was a kid and has always fixed EVERYTHING himself. Anyway I was going to go on Sunday to pick the boat up myself, but he offered to go right away for me. So he and my stepmom drove all the way from Carleton Place to Kingston, checked it all out loaded it up,took it home and now he's working on it! He even talked the guy down!!! He's been working on small motors for a long time,so I think I'm in good hands. Actually, I think he's as excited as I am.
  4. That's funny, those are almost the exact words that came out of my buddies mouth! Hopefully it won't fall out of the sky LOL.
  5. Thanks for the link. Sent it to my Dad who is a boater in the Carleton Place area as well.
  6. I know she's not much of a looker, but as of today, she's all mine. I can't wait actually. Her maiden voyage will be at the Orillia Perch Festival.
  7. Thanks again. That is a cool looking bait. The description of the action is great. Makes alot of sense. It's one of those "why didn't I think of that" things. The endorsement coming from the members here is a sure sign that it's a winner. Now that said, what would be your first choice of colour/pattern for use on the Kawartha Lakes? P.S. I'll be looking for JB's at the show. Thanks again everyone.
  8. WOOHOO!!! . What a day! I bet that made the cold worthwhile. Awesome fish! Love the ski .......... can't wait to see the video. Thanks for posting that!
  9. Thanks for the replies guys. Keep'em coming. So far we have a few guys suggesting wooden lures (believers etc.),but the general consensus seems to be a big black buctail or big spinnerbait. I'll keep my eye open for the MG crusty (couldn't find online at LeBarons). Is JB's at the fishing show Marc? Although I've seen it mentioned here alot, I've never been to their store. What are muskie magnets by the way . Sorry. Also "fishandchips" is SSR a Rapala Suspending Shad Rap? This show should be a great place for me to make contacts. I think I'll try to make the muskie show in St. Catherines as well.......... if for nothing else than education. I'm new to all this and this upcoming year will really be my first full year fishing. Hoping to make it a great one.............. catch lots of fish, have alot of fun and learn, learn, learn.
  10. Okay.since the Spring Fishing Show is coming up and I really have no "musky specific" lures, I think I should start my collection. If you had to pick only one, what would it be?
  11. I chose "Made to wear perch coloured jumpsuits, marinate in goby chum until mid-june and then used for trolling muskie". Seemed appropriate LOL.
  12. Beauty fish. Nice pics too. Thanks for the inspiration.
  13. I just got bills this week . Last week I did get an order of 16 spinnerbaits that I got really cheap off e-bay and the week before my Rapala JSR7 (silver/black). Sounds like you did a little better. You got a little something going on with the mail lady ?
  14. MAN!!! I bought a Sahara a couple weeks ago for $87 from BPS. I'm excited to try it too, but know my butt hurts . I'll be at the Spring Fishing Show looking for deals though. Got my fingers crossed.
  15. Is the real reason for a ban the fact that they can't police bait shops to make sure they are using only resident minnows (so there is no spreading of disease)? Maybe there needs to be some sort of certification put into place? You should see an increase in the production/selection of leaches and a better selection of worms as well (butter worms etc.).
  16. Must be nice. Have a couple for me please. Post pics when you come back,or better yet while you're there.
  17. Welcome Castmaster . So what did you catch all those eyes on? What's the story? Any more pics?
  18. I've had aquariums for years. Like Irishfield and others said, the heaters are reliable (except for sticking on ...oops).Ebo Jagers heaters seem to be the most reliable (alot of saltwater guys use them). There are also under tank heaters you can use or a heating pad if you can get the temp set right. That may work on your external filter. If you get the external off the ground (if it is) and wrap it like someone else suggested the heat fom it's own pump may keep it from freezing. Another suggestion, if nothing works, get a really small pole cut a 1" hole and go small scale ice fishing (just kidding it'll work).
  19. NO !!!!!! Not TOTO !!!!
  20. I believe that is a Rapala Jointed Shad Rap (JSR-7)?
  21. I have a couple combos at my disposal. Mine is an Shakespaere/Ugly stick and the other is a Mitchell/Avocet combo. The Avocet is much smoother and the rod has more "feel" to it. The Ugly stick has a ton more backbone, but the reel is chunky feeling by comparison. If I was out casting a Mepps #3 spinner I'd use the Mitchell. For topwater I'd take the Ugly Stick combo all the way.
  22. Welcome. There is definetely a wealth of information here and alot of nice people. I'm learning alot from the ones willing to share it (thanks guys). I'm sure you will too. Welcome aboard the best fishing site on the net.
  23. I guess we could have labeled that with a rude name too. Close up shots. You'd get more hits for sure. Loved the Sloth! I see the similarities Rich.
  24. Thanks again Jordan. I'll have to grab one of those if I ever get out on the ice.
  25. For those who are interested, here is a fun link that will ask you five questions (varied) and choose the team you should be rooting for on Sunday. It's good fun, give it a shot. Here you go http://playoffs.nfl.com/bandwagon/index.as...y=sbcompromogif .
