The new boat is in the driveway...
young_one replied to lookinforwalleye's topic in General Discussion
irishfield, to my understanding it is in the fine print in your Mercury 3-Year Warranty. As I'm not a technician, I can not tell you the part name and the specific information. It was a personal experience, I took my Mercury Optimax 150 and Mercury 9.9 Trolling motor to a non-authorized Merc dealer, for the small engine they missed one step of the winterization process, the coming spring, the small engine had problems. To have it fixed, I figured it should not cost me anything if I had the warranty, so I took it to an authorized shop, they diagnosed the problem and asked me if the winterization was done by an authorized shop. In the end I had to pay extra to get it fixed. I strongly believe within the years of your Mercury Warranty, it is best to take it to the Authorized Mercury Engine Shops, these guys have specific Mercury training and with years of experience. With all the money you invested with your boat and engine, why not pay a little extra to make sure they are well taken care of? It is obviously the best option for 'lookingforwalleye' to contact Mercury and find out Warranty related information, as I am just offering my experience with the product and things I've learnt. -
The new boat is in the driveway...

For a new OptiMax, the first year it uses more engine oil, always have spare engine oil ready. In the beginning when you are using the engine, you are suppose to keep it under a certain RPM for a number of miles, not sure the exact number for a 75HP Simple facts you'll probably already know: * engine trim for best performance * steel prop for higher speed, but more damage to the engine if you hit something * have the safety lanyard attach to yourself when driving solo * you MUST go to Mercury authorized engine shops for winterization to take advantage of the 3 Year Factory Warranty * I recommend to purchase the additional years of warranty after the 3 years have expired * Speak to your insurance company, set more of the coverage on your engine and reduce coverage on boat and trailer. Majority of the damage and repair are usually with the engine. Enjoy your new boat, and keep us posted! -
What a great day it was for fishing, lots fish caught, saw a few old friends and met some new. * I went 6 steelheads landed out of 7, lesson learnt for fishing with fragile leader and wood area * All fish were caught with jigs and pink worm, continuing my "No Roe" approach for Steelheads * All fish were released unharmed except for one bonus brown trout * Picked up a fly rod and started to mess around with it, it feels like learning to fish all over again! * 1st Brown Trout caught * 1st fish caught on a fly rod (fingerling trout) Woke up an hour late, due to alarm failure, GOLDEN HOUR Nice pool with lots fish, scouting before opener is the key to success! FISH ON! Around noon, decided to mess around with the fly rod my buddy Mike lent me, he is also a great photographer. All I need to do now is to convert him into an OFNer! At the end of the day, back to float rod Bonus brown trout to finish the day! Never tasted a brown before, so I end up keeping the fish UPDATE: The brown trout had one of its lower fin clipped, I assume its a stocked fish? Inside the stomach there were two 3" shiners! Hungry little fish still took my jig fly! It'll be a great fishing season ahead, wish you all the best and plenty of catch

Sry to hear that GBW, I know you've been stalking those three fish since a week ago! I guess for next year, have a Plan B.

I did a bit of that yesterday south of CN, Earth Day, and the fish God rewarded me with a beautiful post-spawn Bow! Bring a garbage bag, educate other anglers, and soon everyone will follow!
-
you tie them with spawn mesh? I heard hot pink works great around this time!!!
-
Sounds like trouble Are there other species of fish you can target? To be able to catch a variety of fish is what makes any fisherman great.

The fourth episode... Les Chats de la Grand
young_one replied to Fisherpete's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for posting, looks like a banner day on the Grand! I can see the kid does not mind the slim all over him. I hope no body in the boat messed up the container for snack and sucker chunks. -
GBW you should've hear how Skeeter described that river chub to his wife over the phone! Those fish will wait for you, mean while speedy recovery for your daughter, get some backing on the centerpin and learn to cast properly! ps. don't be lazy on the leader next time

The ripples in the water suggest fish

Where to catch suckers in Scarborough?
young_one replied to Fisherpete's topic in General Discussion
Try 3" pink worm with long leads! At peak hours, you will actually prefer barbless hook for quick release. -
Best advice: Don't break a lower motor unit like I did... Get a chart and get familiar with the waterways! Good luck out there.

For the next few days before and after the trout opener, the water condition will most likely be very clear. My ultimate goal for stealheading is trying to avoid using fish roe completely. So I decided to tie some natural/realistic looking flies, I started with stone fly. Speil inspired, but I think mine looks more like a crossbreed between a crayfish and a scorpion And hopefully I can fool steelheads like this one with my new creations

must be our loonie setting at par with the US dollar, I was seriously considering visit my buddy in Buffalo and picking up some fishing gears, but now I feel like there is just one more reason for me to support Canadian companies now.

Ive caught numerous catfish right above the dam at Dunnville. This was in the summer though, my guess is that below the dam is where majority of them are.

Beautiful pictures, the colours are unbelievable. What camera/lens was being used?

CC, Haven't seen you any reports lately, I was beginning to think you gave up steelhead fishing! Silly me... Great report as always, thanks for sharing.

$700 is a lot of money, and you can get topnotch gear for that price. I don't know too much about specific model and specs, but I'll say: - For fishing the Credit, I suggest you get a rod at least 13 feet. - float reel, Islander, Kingpin. - Don't forget about secondhand items posted in the classified section (you can save a lot of money, but if $$ is not an issue, ignore this point) - Try floatfishing.net, their forum & classified section appears to be more centerpin specific (OFC is still the best for General Discussion!) - The Credit River Angler Association website also has a wealth of information on their forum & classified section. Centerpin fishing is really all about your presentation.
