Tis the season for Steelhead, Im sure many are just starting and learning to catch these magnificent fish. Weather and river condition doesnt seem to be too promising for the next 2 days, so instead I browse through the internet and try to learn more tactics and tips. Found this "Shotting Patterns" off Raven Tackle website. http://www.raventackle.com/Shotting%20Patterns.pdf Feel free to post more web links of Steelhead Fishing tips for us OFNers. Myself recently discovered Fish On Line Fishing News Portal through a post on the site. Thanks efka!

Camped there few years back. Lots hammer handle pike, the big ones are there but myself didnt catch any. There are also bass and walleye in the lake. I believe theres a huge Walleye statue at the gate of the park, I guess they take that specie for pride? (Assuming a good population of them?) Try top water and inline spinner for Pike, the action is awsome! (top water frog popper, Mepps black fury) A good leader is strongly recommended. I remember I borrowed a paddle boat and fish with a friend. Interesting experience! You sure can adjust ur trolling speed percisely!

Ive been ice fishing this Bay thats connected to a Great Lake for Pike without consistant success. I would like some help from you guys. Deepest point in the Bay ~13 fow (close to the middle) Ive caught most of my fish with with set-lines, quick strike rig with a single 1/4 split shot few inches above a live shiner minnow. So far I find 7-10 fow seem to produce for me, but I see other anglers fishing the deepest point exclusively. I think there might be a tiny bit of current in this bay due to the movement of the great lake. I once hooked a nice size pike using a William ice jig, so I guess every now and then the pike could be acive. Any other productive tactics I should try? I like jiging with one line and set line on the other, lure recommandation and how I should jig them? Location? Hammer handle Bigger pike (I should use a ruler next time, the 2 rods are very different in length)

For a while now, I've been closely examining the atmospheric pressure. Today must be a rare day for AP. Currently at the 103.03kPa! How does AP affect fishing? I read some where a sudden drop in pressure is good for fishing? What about very high pressure? Extreme Low? Sudden incline? Soft water vs. hardwater? Im sure AP affects fish activity in relation to fish bladder and pressure.

Hey TJ, I find Basspro or Cabela website has a good detail on the type/category of baits they sell. I guess they need to know their stuff if they want to sell them

Excellent example of how to combine family day and winter ice fishing weekend. Good job keeping the children happy and catching a few fish. How was the mid-week BOQ rain visit Sinker?

Give a call to Lebaron Markham(905-944-0682), last time I was there, I saw a special on Jiffy Ice drill. Do a little price compare yourself, maybe its cheaper, Im not 100% sure. Your from Germany, so Im not sure if Markham is any where close to you. I have a 2 HP Jiffy Lightning drill. There were some initial problem with drill on my 1st year of useage, now its 2nd year, so far it runs smoothly. 2HP is more than enough power in my opinion. With extra HP comes extra weight, gas usage and noise.

Anyone knows any web link to a lake map of Lake Scugog? Trying to see how deep I'm fishing and what the structures are like in that lake. Thanks

PP for me does not leave any residue, just the obvious colour fading over time. I use both red and green, summer and winter. Its truly the super line.

Excellent catches! Nice to see your pattern working well and producing.

Very jelous. Hard work pay off, last 35min of 6 hrs of fishing. Any tips for someone who havnt caught their first whitie yet?

Nice perch! I bet Big Bay and Bear Point was packed with people, where you went was probably quieter. Walking long distance in a Float suit is not a good thing even for a young guy like me. (19yr) The suit gets wet, cause Im heating up, wet suit = cold = negative fishing mood = no fish = skunk.

Thought about buying a flasher for ice fishing, but then I did some research, and realize I can definitely save the money! I already own a Humminbird 535 portable fish finder, with a few modification, great tool for ice fishing! Many say the LCD in freezing temperature would freeze and crack, but I know when I go fishing, its usually not -20 or extrem temp. Plus I can always put the lid on for a while to make it warm again. So far I've tried -12*C, still got my pixels The problem with regular portable fish finder is their suction cup transducer mount and how the transducer be placed in the ice hole. At first I saw the ice transducer they sell, $90! and product not available. (ice is melting fast, gotta make this work) So found a few loose parts in the basement and came out something like this. Basiclly, something heavy to mount the transducer, so it drops straight down the ice, and the transducer sits at the right angle. A rope is attached to the transducer, on top a few pieces of styrofoam to make the transducer float. (Theory is like a chandalier, a strong chain[rope] to hold the whole crystal structure in the middle, so its balanced and stable) On ice today at Lady Simcoe Nice buoyancy, doesnt takeup too much space, still lots room to fish. The float can be adjusted, so the transducer can be always lowered below the ice. In ACTION! (excuse the picture quality, didnt take time to adjust setting on ice) My 1/16 BuckShot, stop, lift stop. Various jigging motion, very sensitive as you can see. more jigin I didnt capture a Sonar screen with a fish, cause when the fish is there, I was too concentrated trying to catch it. But the display will show another black signal in above the ground, strong signal = right under the hole, weak signal = just entered the sonar cone Very fascinating when the fish is displayed, lift my jig and see if it follows, rod tip nods, set the hook! Didnt catch anything today, but something like this from last year is definitely possible! Enjoy your Feb ice fishing!

I thought about buying a flasher few days ago, but realize my Humminbird 535 portable can be just as affective on ice! (that is after i did some minor adjustment on the transducer cable) I honestly don't see what is the biggest advantage Flasher has over LCD portable sonars. (freezing LCD?) My 535 was just around the 200 mark when I bought it, I can list so many advantages of my system over flasher, but if its old technology you desire, get the 55 Only less than a hundred more than 45, come with soft case, 6 colour, best transducer, etc.

Went out Simcoe today, caught a few decent size perch. They all had worms in them avg 8 in each fish. Always thought its only summer time perch and bass have worms in them. Should I fry up the extra protein? cut them out and eat the meat? or don't bother bring fish back home? ps. wow those perch are alive! 4hr on ice, 1 hr in car, 4 hr in refrigerator, still moving when I try to fillet. But long live the worm! Probably still kicking in the trash bin.

Penn is pretty tough! I bet after Penn told GSP is a quiter from another fight, he would not tap himself out either, telling people he has heart for the fight. GSP is a beast, scary to think that Im the same height, but no where near the strength or skill. 5'10

Very cool, I would never thought there's water under grass/bush/soil, what ever it looks like. They are catching fish much bigger than what I caught through ice. (catfish of similar class?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr0hdY_94K8 Brazilian Ice Fishing

Congrad! Canadian fishing celebrity

Being Chinese Canadian myself, and Chinese New Year is here. Will the whitefish take my white rice? easier to chew, smaller to digest.

A very nice fish! Niagara can be tough to fish, I see the river finally clear up abit for some fish to bite. I bet many have visited the launch spot, and only a few anglers catch a fish like that! Congrad!

Last year trout opener on this particular creek, I had all my float gears and caught a dozen trout, while a family friend of my just had a simple spinning rod a few small split shot and a regular hook. (octopus 4,6) He placed a whole nightcrawler on the hook, and caught a lot of suckers, but sometime in the afternoon, he landed a nice 5lb rainbow trout! I guess you don't really need complex tools to catch trout, but it sure helps to have better target specific equipments. I guess most importantly for basic trout set up is, light flurocarbon leader (4 or 6lb) and small hook (size 10, 12, or smaller).

A very nice ride! I bet you can't wait until the bass season opens! Im jelouse, about the boat, more so that you can park it on your drive way. Where I live, the stupid zooning law perhibits me from doing that. I always thought a house with a boat on the driveway looks expensive and classy.
