i've ran my yamaha 12 months a year for 9 seasons.... never had an issue. just pull it out, trim'er down, let it drain.... just before i trim it back up to leave, i quickly turn it over to get out anything else... after that, it sits in an unheated garage. thats why you bought a yamaha. they are the best.

Craig, you are 100% correct. i'm often embarrased to tell folks I work with (I'm in mississauga, very close to the credit) that I fish for salmon/trout. they immediately assume I'm one of the idiots "fishing" the local river. i just advise once the fish leave the lake, I fish for bass.

buy an electric tiller mount motor, cut your main, and cruise in as silent as can be.

12footspringbok, many care about the fish in Lake Ontario - thankfully. due to geographical locations, some may not be able to enjoy the resource very often, and as such, provide opinions like you saw above.

just hope if you break a rod/reel, they have one in stock - somewhere in north america. or you will be waiting ...... for a long time. currently awaiting replacement of another NRX (893) due to glue failure as well as a replacement of a crucial crankbait rod. all were sent in first week of July. That would be about 3 months waiting now. Shimano is not known for keeping much stock on hand.

Paul often touches on some very controversial points, but they are still very valid. How much does one person have to put back into a public fishery before one can profit from a public fishery? How much natural reproduction must occur in a fishery before the fishery is no longer considered put and take? With as much natural reproduction being proven year after year, when will it be no longer be ok to assist in disrupting the natural reproduction, only to satisfy a need to bait fish? Lots of questions that need to be considered as the lake continues in its natural progression. The lake is constantly changing, whether through natural change, or man made change. Either way, no answer will remain constant. What was "once the way" may need to be changed based on changes in the lake. I've only fished the lake for a short 8 years and even in my time the lake has changed dramatically. More natural reproduction year after year. More caught and released fish making it to a creek to spawn (successfully). One has to start looking at it differently. That, or totally close ones eyes to change. I know one thing for sure. A natural salmon has imprinted successfully - and at no cost to the tax payer. So release your next salmon, you never know if it is going to be the next successful salmon providing lake ontario with more strong, natural genes. (and yes, this goes against Pauls views of stocking, stocking, and more stocking - its ok to agree with some views and disagree with others....the beauty of free thought)

interesting comments regarding fish for spawning bass. many bass guys will argue until they are blue in the face that it is "ok" to fish for bass during the spawn...because you can in the states. that document showed otherwise. thanks for posting. made for a great read!

I must say, Hooked with Mark Krupa was the only time I've seen the Sutton in that form and splendor. He really expressed how special the system was, especially big brookies on the mice. great to see another enjoy it the same way. great stuff!

not up here billy. we have what is called DCPD (direct compensation property damage). it saves insurance companies from going after each other, as with fault determination rules, there is always an at fault party. as such, every single accident would have one insurance company going after another for compensation (or otherwise known as subrogation). this would not be cost effective. as such, regardless of fault, the "not at fault" driver's insurance company does not go after the "at fault" drivers insurance company.

spin, what you suggested about the subro does not occur in no fault insurance. there is no subrogation in no fault insurance. each party is covered by his/her insurance company, regardless of fault.

Once you have determined there are no "dream" jobs out there, and you need to pay some bills, look into Environmental Pollution Insurance. LOTS of HIGH paying jobs for those with your qualifications. You'd work for a brokerage or insurance company providing your expertise in the environmental sector for brown field sites and other forms of environmental insurance requirements. Likely work in the financial district in TO for an "alphabet" company (AON, Marsh, HKMB, etc)

as for hours, its a killer trolling. I have 280 hours on my motor since I picked my boat up end of March. 70 hours per month.

will the finder show trim/tilt? also, will the finder show hours on motor?

Ya, I didn't do mine until earlier this year when I got all the work done on the boat... I paid for the mutlifunction TAC, slightly more than teh standard guage. With custom installation it came to around $600 Not cheap, but nice to see the RPM's... I felt the "loss" of the guages when I upgraded motors, as my old boat/motor had the analog guages...but I wouldn't miss them if I didn't have the analog ones in the first place. Even Quinte, -15 degree's, starts up first try. Just keep the batteries charged!

wow, now we run virtually the exact same setup. same motor, virtually same boat. you'll LOVE it. I've owned mine for 2 and 3/4 seasons and I've YET to not have it start on the first turn. It doesn't have a choke - no need for one. Also, I've yet to "prime the ball" since I bought it. It is the perfect motor! Just wished the VTS would work at all RPM's, not just the "lowest" one. Did you get the guages to go with the motor? I'm guessing your analog guages didn't work with the new motor either?

It is no TE, that's for sure. But then again, the new crucials are no crucials. the new curado is no curado the new cronarch is no cronarch I can go on and on.... Just do your research and know what you are buying. You cannot assume if your buying a Curado, Calcutta, Chronarch, Crucial, etc, that you are getting the quality you once expected by those names.

"I just don't get it how plywood and carpet are acceptable materials on a boat?" - as someone who just went through this process, with the ability to choose between ply/carpet or "alternate materials", I went with marine ply and carpet. fishing 12 months a year, you want carpet.....ice doesn't work the same on carpet. in the hot summer on lake O, again, you want carpet. the wood acts as sound dampners. you'd be surprised how much better wood/carpet is, if you fish for many species, 12 months a year.

here's a question? if the NFN can virtually operate without reprocussions, which they essentially can, why don't they get rid of the cormorants? we all know the government, and public, will not stick their nose in the native's business, so why don't the local first nations take care of that "situation"?
