  1. what, you mean it's not right/normal to have the glue releasing on NRX's, causing reel's to fall off? i thought shimano figured if your willing to pay that kind of money for a rod the buyer has enough skill to get that fish in the boat without the reel actually attached to the rod, no? you think skills like this can be acquired without factory built rod failures - i don't think so. I mean anyone can get a bass in the boat WITH the reel on the rod - this take actual skill that only a factory built NRX can provide.
  2. yes, many shimano ones.
  3. 17 plus pounds? you take photo's of all your big fish. I'd LOVE to see a photo of that one! don't see many ontario walleye over 16lbs!
  4. hope that company has ice / skeg cover for their equipment or they are crap out of luck!
  5. Fish Farmer makes a GREAT point about boats these days. These STUPID rock lockers that run up the boat. They remove the ability to have a PROPER sized live well, often cutting the live well duties into two. Worst part is, these stupid rod lockers often can't take a rod longer than about 7'4" (or less). FF, one of the main reasons I refurbed my lund, as opposed to buying new (cost was very similar) was the poor layouts of boats these days. Having a full sized, 40 gallon (or so) livewell in the casting deck, with a bottom draining sysem right out the bottom of the boat (no hoses) is where it's at. Unfortunately boat manufacturers have convinced many buyers that having a small rod lock and two small livewells is better. nutz.
  6. i truly enjoyed the fishing show this year. just got back, enjoying a lazy sunday afternoon there with my father. i can't complain. i was able to pick up my custom bass magnet tubes (mike was kind enough to pour a colour that he discontinued in the past - gotta love local product manufacturers), i picked up a couple of the new rapala balsa baits in purpledesence, and was able to grab a special mate crank bait box. spoke to many of the friendly lodge owners. dad picked up a few packs of lemon senko's and some dt10's on deep discount. free parking and 15 bucks for an adult to get in - that's ok with me. even had lunch at the natural submarine sandwich place, dad and I, and it cost under 30 bucks for the total. not bad for a couple of foot longs and a pop each. i'd recommend it to anyone who is on the edge.
  7. anyone have experience doing cleanings for both spinning / trolling reels, including changing drag washers / drags where required? i have about 40 something reels that I would like to get done, however, I'd prefer not to send them out... it would also be a great opportunity for me to learn....I would like to pay hourly. It likely would take a full day to do all the reels. I'm in Hamilton. 90% of the reels are shimano. half of the reels are tekota's. thanks
  8. lots of guys can do that...but many of those guys are "mobile" (smaller boats that go from port to port), which aren't going to be big enough for your party. if lots of fish/big fish was your goal, I'd go in April out of Port Dalhousie. best time of the year for pissed off kings... a 20lbs april king would pull around and man handle a 30lbs july king.
  9. square tails is a great charter out of credit. he would fit 6 no problem and catches big fish. if its corporate, and impressing customers is more important than catching tons of fish (which with business it often is), I'd go with Wayne Andrews. His big business charters are tough to beat!
  10. new lund seats are plastic and garbage - like much of the stuff on the new lunds. my original lund seats (1998) were far far far better than the ones I replaced them with in 2009.
  11. bill, i knew you were being sarcastic. i was referring the looong thread about the brown vs atlantic.
  12. that can only be one fish - and it sure as hell isn't anything that has had millions wasted on it.
  13. would never ever use UPS again. products when they arrive at the door cost 40%-70% more because of their rediculous freight charges. i hope sellers understand why the customers will not purchase if they choose to use UPS.
  14. one show has fishing and boats (fishing and boat show) the other has dogs, hunting, infomercial products, and other junk. if i was with the wife who wanted to see dogs jumping through hoops, i'd go to the sportsman show, otherwise, the fishing show is where its at. also, the fishing show is having hour long seminars each morning, put on by some of the industry's best...I'm aware of a bass one and a salmon one... the sportsman show didn't choose the week prior to the fishing show for no reason.
  15. the original "bill" from bills bait and tackle explained to me what gives the tail the best action. where the body meets the tail, the narrower the connection, the better the action on the tail. in the photo above, the connection point is almost as thick as the grub part - likely not great action. narrower and thinner the connection point, better the action.
  16. that is the biggest six to seven pound fish i've ever seen.... its easily over 10lbs...likely closer to 15lbs.
  17. gotta love the legend. comes with a 75 but can put a 150hp on it.... nothing a stock motor at 50% capacity. sigh.
  18. i'm going to be shopping for a new (to me) truck some time this year. I will have my 10.5' dipsy rods to make sure they'll fit all the way, long way, with no crossing. my current yukon (2003) allows for 11' rods no issue (not the XL version of the truck either). have to be able to keep your rods in the vehicle without breaking them down - absolutely!
  19. based on what I've reported above, the indians do quite a bit of supporting only when their wallets are being effected as well. As long as that "effecting" is for their benefit!
  20. Bushart - as promised. http://www.simcoereformer.ca/2013/01/17/natives-protesting-at-wind-turbine-sites so they don't like the wind turbines as they are not the owners and are not getting money. HOWEVER, as I'm in the office, I pulled one of my files. M'Chigeeng First Nation policy. Wind turbines on their premises. Amazing. Ok for that first nation band to allow, as they are the owners, and making the coin. But the haldimand site - no way. Natives aren't making the cash, so they are against it. That SHOWS FIRST HAND what influences decisions. Not nature. Not land. Not history. PURE MONEY!
  21. bushart - i just saw it on our 6 pm news. CH NEWS. i'm sure there will be some online articles soon. when there is, i'll have your link. essentially they created a work stoppage at a haldimand wind farm construction site citing all the garbage i mentioned above - however, I insure a wind farm on native lands up in Thunder Bay. natives for it if they are getting $$$ but against it if they are not getting $$$.
  22. it gets better. i saw a bunch of them protesting the wind turbines going into haldimand today on the news...no problem...thats their deal...stop any form of progress. HOWEVER, I personally insure the same wind turbines on an res up in Thunder Bay. So if they are RECEIVING the money, its ok - no worries - nature can accept them if we are getting the money .... but in haldimand, where the natives aren't getting a cut of the coin, then all of a sudden, its some crap about nature and the land and all the other junk. so insane it's hard to believe.
  23. manitoubass2, have you spent any time educating yourself about caledonia?
  24. hope this starts to make some ice fisherman think twice before putting others in danger. i'm guessing its actually $3k to the father, as it was a father son team that went in, no?
  25. "Spring Fishing and Boat Show Feb 15 - 18 at the international centre" 100000% for sure. less junk that isn't fishing (or even remotely fishing related). free parking. better location. Andy who runs the fishing show puts so much back into our fishing community while walter who runs the sportsman show only takes from our community while offering very little as a return.
