that portage brings back memories. my father took me through those chains of lakes (including starting from that exact location you end your photo's with) when I was all of 8 years old. As I grew and the years went by, we would go deeper and deeper into those lakes, adding a lake or two a year. During those days, the mid to late 80's, the pike fishing was fantastic. Fish up to 8lbs were quite common in those small back lakes. The bass fishing wasn't too shabby either. We went back again when I was 15 and the fishing was much tougher. The portages were cut much cleaner, and a hunting lodge was on one of the main portage lakes. thanks for showing those photo's. I camped on that exact same island. great to see fathers still taking their sons back there....25 years after my dad and I did it...

catch a 20lbs brown in less than 20' of water on spring tackle - flat lining - and tell me its "too small". more fun than any 30lbs king i've caught..... kings just peel like hell, you wait for them to finish and reel them in, then if the water isn't too warm, you'll get one last ditch effort when they get to the boat....then they float. -

convince the trout fisherman that roe from this fish would work to catch bows.... -
bring her down to the games ... tickets are virtually free. our company has a box that barely is even opened for the raptors...can't get employee's to go - even for free.

and with Okuma you get what you pay for. you pay sub average price, you get sub average quality. when i worked at the tackle shop and saw folks looking closely at an okuma, i simply pointed to the closest daiwa. that reins true whether talking an open face trolling reel or spinning reel. low end or mid end, daiwa > okuma in every instance.

you can quote me on this .... by years end Bernie will be the hands down better goalie. he will be our playoff "go to" goalie.

Here's the answer "who makes bps reels" right from the horses mouth (horrible grammar): .: Bass Pro reels are made by a Company named OEM Manufacturing that outsources its production to many different companies . In the cases of contracted fishing reels for other companies they are now being made in either China or Korea . OEM manufactures anywhere from 30-75% of the worlds reels in a given year . The similarities to other reel companies are the reason for the incorrect answers to this question . When OEM is in manufacturing mode of particular reels the many different companies using OEM will have their reels run afterwards with similarities to save money by not making OEM to retool all of their machinery to produce them . Bass Pro uses this money saving tactic better than all the other reel companies out their . They then pass some of the savings off to us. Thats why Bass Pro can sell very similar looking reels to others with as good or better insides to others for lower prices . OEM manufactures reels for Shakespear ( who owns Pflueger and gets some royalties for Bass Pro exclusive Pflueger reels ) , Bass Pro , some of Cabelas , Browning ( who is being sold thru Bass Pro for royalties) , Pinnacle , Southbend , and who knows how many others and how many parts they make for other manufactures who do most of their own production . The thing about these similar reels they are all done by the specs of the different reel companies . Those specs are better in some than in others . Bass Pro gets high end bearings and manufacturing tolerances for even less than others do for a lesser model because of their volume is so much higher than others . Again they do pass some these savings on to us . And for my money I can't help myself from grabbing up some that savings from time to time . Hope that helps you out in some way . Good luck and tight lines . http://answers.basspro.com/answers/2010/product/102287/bass-pro-shops-bass-pro-shops-pro-qualifier-baitcast-reels-questions-answers/questions.htm

depth i find is the most important. this is not relevant when fishing shallow water however. next to depth, i'm going with action. i believe (and my father swears by this) - colour does not make a difference - or if it does, very very little difference.

I "believe" bps reels are made by okuma. okuma reels are "generally" junk (90% - maybe 95% of them). live and learn. oh, nice bass!

not saying that ISN'T a resident fish, however, we have caught dozens of browns with those spawning colours, out of Lake Ontario, which certainly aren't resident fish. both males and females get that dark spawning colour when in the rivers. great fish rich!

Just wanted to give a heads up to fellow board members that there is a fun, 100% payback, Drum tournament on Quinte this Saturday. Catch and release of course - unless you want to attempt the unthinkable Its $30 a boat. 3 fish per boat. Its our third time and I'm sure it'll be a blast again. We always seem to catch them went walleye fishing...so now you go walleye fishing and when you catch a drum is a "good thing" lol. More details can be found here: http://forum2.quintefishing.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17607

Obtaining Roe...tough to do it properly...
Steve replied to Familyfisherman's topic in General Discussion
so its ok to slaughter browns for their eggs, but not the holy grail - the rainbow. i see male browns slaughtered, stepped on, all for the mighty egg - which obviously isn't even present in a male. I believe you said you use 150 roe sacs a week..... So what is so wrong with this fella doing the same.....likely he'll get through a full season on that fish.... how many fish does it take to use 150 roe sacs per week? -
disagreed.

cardiff is one of the few shimano reels that really never "hit" the mark. i never owned one, but a good friend did, and he took his back after a few weeks of use. FW, where he returned it to, said they had received many returns on the Cardiff. It's like when they originally came out, they "looked" good, almost like a Calcutta knock-off .... but they just didn't produce.

I'm split on this. I have a seizure disorder. (although I have not had one since November 2006). I'm properly medicated for it. From 2001 to 2006 I had 7 very bad seizures. I had 3 MRI's, many Cat's, EEG's, ECG's, etc. I give full credit to our health system. They tried to diagnose it. However, a cause could not be determined. Since 2003'ish, which is now 10 years ago, doctors have essentially given up in finding a cause. I'm medicated for life, and the med's are not "fun". I'd much rather have them try to find a causation. I've been told if I want to further work to determine a cause I'd have to go to Berkley University. So while Canada's health care was amazing - and I mean amazing to me. MRI's less than an hour after seizure's, etc. Its disheartening that they have "given up" in helping me .... allowing me to succumb to a lifetime of medication (seizure med's aren't tons of fun - but it could be worse).
