  1. there's something about those northern lakers.... We catch 20lbs+ lakers in Lake O and don't bat an eye. But to take on of those monsters from cool northern waters, with scenery that is as magnificent as the fish....well, that's what makes a laker! when you trolled the jigs, I'm assuming you had to spend a considerable amount of time imparting the action? was any type of action better than another? thanks for providing the depth details. also, interesting to hear about the lodges "success" (or lack thereof) using the all welded cresties.
  2. i've heard rice is fishing very tough right now. our last trip to seymour was very unproductive. I was out on Hamilton Harbour yesterday and didn't see much action from myself or any of the other boats....including a few bass boats who were as puzzled as I was.
  3. don't buy gas or smokes on a reserve. don't fund their nonsense.
  4. in the business world all tat's need to be covered up....100% covered up. no different than piercing ..... but working in a trades I don't think it makes much of a difference....
  5. A very bad game last night. I even found myself changing channels to watch the better games midway through the second period. Oh well, tonight's another night. What was worse than the actual game was the travesty Rogers has turned HNIC into. I would like to have heard Don's "under his breath" comment just as the camera's were panning away. What a horrible mess live hockey is becoming. (thanks Rogers)
  6. truly appreciate the info. although fishing different waters, I'm going to put some of what you have reported in action this weekend... will be crankin for bass (with some jerk baits thrown in) this weekend.
  7. great fall largies!!! never try deeper cranks in the fall for buckets? any info on water temps and how they relate to your success? any fish in shallow once the water reaches the high 50's ?
  8. The Swedish Elite League is a better place for a young player to develop his skills.
  9. largies or smallies? (i guess more what I'm saying is big water or small water, lol)
  10. you have to find negligence. they "may" find the driver slightly negligent, as he did "squeegie" the gas towards the back where the engine was....however, 99% of vehicles could have gas spilled on the hood of the car and not do that..... porche is backpedaling as we speak.
  11. porche is offering a free new vehicle if he doesn't sue them. the engine is in the rear, but wasn't designed properly. if gas over spilled, the engine compartment should have protection to keep the gas from hitting the engine and igniting. I'm quite sure he'll pass on the free replacement and sue however. I'm sure the gas station's insurer will also sue porche for damages. interesting situation.
  12. I test drove one of those vehicles, with the Mercedes diesel engine. lacked the power and space I was used to (North American V8), but was a "nice" vehicle. they aren't cheap, holding their resale value quite well.
  13. MJL, I'm surprised they don't already do that....
  14. oh crap, I'm pretty sure I know that fella from the local tackle shop. a good young fella with a strong interest in fishing. if it's who I think it is (which I'm 99% sure it is), we were just chatting about bow fishing at the dam. man......
  15. when fishing there are many factors that go into catching a trophy. many, if not the majority, of those factors are outside our control (bad hookset, close to structure, a light hit, etc). so the remaining factors that are within our control should be looked at closely. frequently tying knots, changing lines, checking for knicks, using quality hardware (and this includes hooks, swivels, split rings, etc). at 14 he has many years to learn this - just as we all did. (the good anglers are still learning and always will be) what will determine his future fish catching success will be if he listens and learns from those who have been there, or if he will tell those who have been there how to do it. that is up to him. not us.
  16. I'm loving this.
  17. don't do it...stay far away from trackers.
  18. i'd say 6-7lbs.
  19. Trokar ARE the sharpest hooks i've come across... but their hook point design has so little "material" that they roll just as easy, if not even easier, than an XPS hook. so very very sharp...and with open water and/or weed cover's, they are great... but if your working around wood, or even worse, rock, your heart will break .... thankfully it wasn't me but a fishing partner rolled three hooks in one afternoon fishing a jig around rocks....one of the employee's of Fishing World made custom jigs from Trokar hooks....and they were sharp!!! another complaint, that I cannot substantiate, is that due to the design of the point they "cut" into the fish after penetration, allowing for a "open hole" which makes it easier for a fish to shake.... but no question, on pure sharpness and penetration, Trokar is the best I've come across...it's just unfortunate that the design that makes them so sharp is also their downfall when it comes to hook point rolling.
  20. technically, the swivel that attaches to the tripping end of the dipsy can't be "too big"...as it's just hardware connected to the dipsy.... if your running a spin doctor or flasher, the swivel that connects to said device also can't be "too big"...as it too just connects to hardware. In my opinion, the only place a swivel can be "too big" is using a large swivel connected to spoons.
  21. I find the best solution to winterizing is never to do it...just fish 12 months a year and all is good. thankfully with the Niagara River, Port Dalhousie, Quinte, and other year round fishing locations available, that is possible for us Ontarians. We are very fortunate in this province.
  22. Leo looks very strong. Making me proud!
  23. my buddy uses garbage xps worm hooks as they are cheap. his biggest issues are the hooks break, as the carbon content is too high. also, the hook points roll quite easily. but he can get a pack of 25 for a buck less than a pack of gammy's or owners, which of course have much less hooks. you get what you pay for.
  24. i just hope kadri stops being a dirty beyotch and gains some respect among the NHL's best. he is often embarrassing.
