I have faith all will work out well. Best wishes for a quick recovery. -
A little background....the place they caught him trespassing is gotta be the dumbest place to go. Walk down a trainbridge sometimes into the US and climb down to the bottom via rope. The number of people that do this is huge, I was more excited that authorities were out checking this spot as its usually a free for all especially during salmon snagging err spawning run

Saw this today. Always nice to see things working like they should... Sootoday Report

Depending on how close to ice out you get casting with tube jigs, 1/2oz bucktails and 4" storm swim baits is productive. 5-30 fow off points, shoals and river mouths has been good. I really like trolling upriver into mouth with spoons or cranks. (If the flow isnt too strong try a flat fish, lazy wobble is killer on spring lakers) then drifting back jigging. Narrows are anywhere theres current will work. Dont overlook sandy bays, as was previously stated you have to cover water until you find the temp the fish are holding at. Look for anything in the low to mid 40's early in the year.Last spring the deep diving xrap was the world beater in white, and sand flats from 10-25 fow where the place. Really temp dependent, the location didnt matter so much as the temp. When the fish go deeper, late may/june here, use electronics to mark fish off points or on secondary drops into the main basin. then you can jig. white tube, bucktail, and experiment with heavy chunk spoons (hopkins) or flutter spoons (williams, cleos) depending on theyre mood. Also as weird as it sounds try jigging a #3 or 4 spinner.... im rambling now but im pumped now about spring trout....

So what did you do with your Saturday Afternoon?
troutologist replied to irishfield's topic in General Discussion
hiked 10km over intense hills in a snowstorm. 6 people 40+ specks. gong show. -
P-line fluro clear. About the best handling line Ive used the last while. Flouro coated copolymer. Ive never tested the breaking strength but have caught bass and lakers in heavy current on 6 and 8lb test with no problems.
-
Chalk up another success for the 3/4 oz buckshot. Tipped with a minnow it was the only bait i found this weekend that worked. accounted for 6 or 10 lakers and specks. 20fow and less. jigged subtlety.

I think there a a big difference between someone shouting curses and vulgarity and a someone overhearing a conversation in normal tones between two people in a boat. I try my best to not broadcast the fact I curse to everyone around but if im talking to my buddies 5ft away and someone catches it im not overly upset.

The glow and blue/pink buckshot in 3/4oz has been the undoing of quite a few lakers through the ice this winter. The smaller size in chartreuse has also been a good perch bait.

Carl just keep in mind you have to be on the water everyday and be comfortable longer than your clients. my advice is spend a bit more and be sure. my 0.02

I got the jacket and bib in cabelas guidewear and was extremely happy with the performance. Wore them everyday last summer guiding and nothing bad to say. Only thing sitting in a boat I think the long parka wouldnt ride up as much as the jacket. I went with the jacket to double as a wading jacket. Not a problem if youre wearing the bibs too though.

There is an age class or size class at which fish have the greatest reproductive output ie most eggs per mass type deal. After this point they lose some of their reproductive capacity. I suspect this varies greatly among species and environments when this occurs. I believe slot lengths were implemented to keep the fish of highest reproductive capacity in the system. Though the released trophy fish may not contribute after you release it, it has spawned for years and contributing genetics which in some way helped it to survive to and older age. Releasing it however may grant another angler the pleasure of catching a trophy fish the next year. In most animals reproductive hormone output is decreased as they move past the middle of their lifespan. Hope I made my teachers proud??

When Is A Good Time For Superior Chrome?
troutologist replied to CLofchik's topic in General Discussion
Lake superior park opens on the may 1st weekend check ontarioparks.ca about Pancake though too. Theres a few other crown land spots about an hour north of the soo, let me know if this is an area youre gonna check out. As for time you've gotta be flexible due to varying weather. Ive had great days on easter weekend and great days the last weekend in may. -
The 6" models of storm with and without lip are deadly on lakers in white or pearl. Maybe one of the most effective reef casting lures ive found. I also had decent success trolling them when spoons werent getting much attention. The 10" version of the swim shad is frustrating in a way because it got a lot of hits but few hookups, however the hookups were all big fish. For pike I stopped throwing them because if you get into numbers I was finding they'd rip the tails off faster than I care to buy them.

No one shoots into shin pads as accurately as mccabe! management is at the root as are the players greed. If you wanna win the cup you take less cash to bring in a supporting cast....making top dollar and losing rules!

Glad nothing too serious came of it. my fence took a tumble into the neighbors yard. Serves him right from being downwind I guess. An unexpected job come thaw. Sunfa gun wind....

I am sorry to hear about your loss Mike. The memories will be with you always. Condolences

We dont bring a fishfinder in. The lake is in PP and the hike is far... Thanks guys I get more pumped up about Jan 1st than any other opener of the year.

I got rid of the 8" finbore b/c it was too darn heavy. The 6" swede was around half the weight. most of my icefishing involves long snowshoe treks and oz's count. I like that I can apply more pressure with the shorter auger.

Things started one day later than normal with yesterday's false start being brought to you by Weiser's. The crew was rounded up and met at the bait dispensary prior to theyre opening at 6am. With the necessities (minnows, powerade and pizza combos) secured it was a 1 1/2 hr drive followed by a 2km snowshoe to the spot of choice. -25C is cold!! Punched some holes and dropped down a buckshot rattler and this fella hit in about 10sec. Its gonna be a good day. Not so. Things were slow today with 5 guys fishing I got 3 lakers and others lost 2 fish. All the fish came off main lake points in 25-40fow. Not the usual productive start to the season but I avoided the dreaded white stripe. Great day out though put around 8km on the new snowshoes and got into the lake before anyone else this year. Hope everyone else had a good start to trout.

Happy News Years all!! The best for 2008. I cant wait til the hungover snowshoe session into the PP for some lakers. tight lines

A note too that when using heavy spoons like big krocs or cop e cats it really helps to have a treble to land the fish. with the real heavy spoons theres a lot of leverage the can get to spit the hook. Look into quality hooks for striper fishing. trout just mangle the stuff that comes on lures from the store. go for thick gauge stuff. 2 more days til opener

Special regs for single barbless aside I think trebles hook up lakers better. If youre releasing a lot of fish the single hook is miles away better to handle. I like to put a really heavy duty barrel swivel with o rings between the spoon and the hook. The way lakers roll close to the boat it saves your hook and gear etc. Really makes a big difference.
