I hope to do as well when I get up there for the weekend. As a side note not all Lamprey are the invasive Sea Lamprey. What you had may have been one of the native lampreys of Ontario, some of which are endangered. I'm guessing it was likely a Silver Lamprey and not (though not impossible) a Sea Lamprey.

I have 5 or 6lbs of ground moose meat I'm bringing, should make for a couple of good meat loaves or perhaps burgers.

Yeah, I'm reading it Dave. I'm only here now to take a break from lathing a cork handle and wash the cork dust out of my throat with a cold one. I have just enough time between now and Lakair to finish a couple of more rods so I'm afraid Simcoe Whities are not possible. Perhaps I'll find time to go to Big Gull next year though. Looks like a lot of fun!

If I'm not mistaken Mike the slow death technique was inspired by mayfly feeding walleye. Even if not, it is a proven method for wallies during the hatch.

On Nipissing, no. I have however caught a few incidental walleye on sub surface nymphs fishing a floating line while targeting whitefish. I'm certain that had I switched to a sinking line to get down closer to the bottom that I may have tagged more walleye. One of these days (years) I would like to bring the fly rod up to Lakair and try for walleye during the big hatch.
