  1. Tried out the compre this morning. Loved it, also tried out the Veritas... It did not feel right to me. I did not mind the 2 pc at all, guides were all lined up, and caught a couple of small largies throwing a spinnerbait.
  2. Need the 2 pc for space considerations, I drive a car that frequently has 2 small kids, and for storage....I keep my rods in a travel case from Sail.
  3. thanks for all of the input guys!, Went to BP at lunch and now own a 6'10 MH 2pc casting Compre. Used up my Giftcard on this one and get to try her out tomorrow:clapping:
  4. Thanks for all the input, I will be using it probably 50% of the time, for pretty much everything. texas to cranks to Spinnerbaits to Top water. As I only have 1 rod, and this will be my second, it will need to be a jack of all trades. I love my Compre spinning Rod, and am leaning towards that one in the BC version. I know my options would be greatly increased if a 1 pc was doable, unfortunately, not too much in the 2 pc BC.
  5. Alright, here goes. I have used a spinning only set up all my life. I am totally interested in baitcasting, and cant wait to try it! I have the reel already, thank you Gagnon's. A LH shimano Citica. It was at the right price point, has decent reviews and I like how it reels. Already spooled up with 30lb powerpro SS8 timber brown. My dilemma now is which rod to get. A 2 pc rod is a must, and would like medium heavy action. So far the choices have been narrowed down to the Shimano Compre, Shimano Clarus and the Abu Garcia Veritas. I feel I am leaning towards the Compre, as this is what I have holding up my stradic, but would like opinions on which to get. I have held them all, they all feel decent.... :wallbash: Cheers J
  6. Welcome to the board, great people, great information and great pics!
  7. I've always had luck with Panther Martin's for rainbows
  8. Use a 2010 Santa Fe. Rated for 2000lbs, 3500 with trailer brakes?
  9. How heavy is the load you are towing? How many axles? I had a blow out last year with car tires.....I was not on the highway, and just starting my journey. I noticed a HUGE differance between car tires and trailer tires. The sway of the load was gone and rolled smoother. I was also well under load for the car tires....
  10. Try leasebusters. I hear their ads on the radio all the time
  11. I have seen them basking on the trent River. near Anderson Island. There is a launch there as well.
  12. have you heard them 'sing' yet? Loud is an understatement.
  13. On the east lake section of the sandbanks there is a snack bar in the middle of the parking area. The beach itself is great for small kids, very shallow going out with intermittent sand bars. Not too sure about the west lake side for snacks. This is where the giant dunes are and is deeper. If you do go, check out the bridge going over the river in the park, you can see the bowfin swimming around as well as some decent sized largemouth.
  14. can you not use the ship to store feature?
  15. Have a great time, glad to hear no bridges were burned when the career change happened.
  16. I was thinking of cutting his line as my buddy was reeling in this beaut.....he gets quite the swollen ego when he catches anything of size.
  17. For a fathers day gift, I was charged with the task of choosing my own present. I decided on a Frabill Hiber-net. http://frabill.com/landing-nets/hiber-net-collapse-net/hiber-net.html As the boat I fish from, has limited room, i thought it was a great idea that the netting stored back into the handle. Problem is, after using it a couple times, it is a hook magnet. Nothing like spending 20 mins to get a treble out, I was thinking of getting a rubberizing spray and blasting the nylon.....but not sure if this would harm the fish, or make the net to stiff to use. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  18. Left Handed retrieve, Now that's gangsta'
  19. Rash guards are great, they do work, and are pretty stylish. My wife just picked up an Oakley one and loves it. We have been using them for quite a few yrs, since our trip to Hawaii..... Not sure how old your daughter is and I do not want to be presumptious, but Dakine makes one with built in support You should be able to source some through various surf shops or online retailers.
  20. All I can say is WOW, amazing job.
  21. A friend and I were able to get out fishing for a few hours Sunday morning in his 12' tinny. We launched at Frenchmans at 7am and trolled in front of the Nuke plant for a couple of hrs. The lake was glass. Loved it. We ended up catching one fish, absolutely hammered the Live Target Smelt he had on and bent 2 hooks and took one hook off the treble! Jumped 3 times on the way to the boat, I called my wife to say thanks for the new net she got me for fathers day.....cuzz without it, there was no way this fish was getting in the boat! The problem of the day was his fishfinder. The transducer was busted at the mount, it was only reading depth, and that was sporadic at best. My Question is, Which would be the better buy? He has an opportunity to get a used Humminbird 190c portable or a new Humminbird 160c portable (budget is an issue) These are around the same cost, but which one would be better. The reason for portable is he is in and out of a couple of different boats and is selling his tinny in a couple of months and does not want the hassle of installation and the removal. Does anyone have any insight on these 2 models, and which would be better. Here he is with his catch.
  22. Yours was the thread I read/ added to. There was some good info regarding the viability of 2 stroke vs 4 stroke on there. Thats part of the reason i wanted to know WHEN the tech caught up.
  23. I could not have asked for better responses. Now I have cutoff for the age of boats I will be looking for.
  24. Thanks for the input. This puts my mind at ease.... Now to go browsing!
