  3. great news Rich ! That first step maybe the hardest but you've taken it.
  4. For most issues one might not need an inspector but a home inspector (do they have civil engineering backgrounds ?) should/would be able to flag any issues. For example, a member here had wall crack issues which I'm sure most of us wouldn't know the seriousness of beyond it's a crack in the wall. An inspector would be able to warn us of major repair bills so forewarned is forearmed. Set beside the price of a home and potential expenditures, the cost for an inspection is piddly imo.
  5. pre approval for financing and in most cases home inspection is a condition I would recommend. do not let yourself get caught in a bidding war beyond the value of the home, it then becomes a matter of winning and beating the other buyers. a good agent will keep you in check. there is no dream home so go for the home that nails most of your wish list. good luck, home ownership can be scary but it's worth the aggravation !
  6. Yup, dredging is a big problem for the Great Lakes as mentioned by Fisherman. Another story with a bit more explanation including glacial isostatic adjustment, something that makes sense to me. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/why-the-lakes-are-slowly-getting-less-great/article4499074/
  7. Imo, Sail has positioned themselves, smartly, between BPS and MEC, two totally different retail experiences philosophically and customer base-wise. Could be a smart move, only time will tell. While the atmosphere at Sail may be kind of 'quiet' I prefer it to the hyper visuals of BPS although I do shop there if I can't find anything elsewhere. Shopping at a home grown store is also tops with me and I hope Kemper has his issues resolved promptly.
  8. esp if the arena manager is hollering at you lol

  13. I would think an island, situated in a good spot would do extremely well with solar and wind power generation. I'd have a big pig for the propane fridge, stove and back up generator. Kinda OT but I read that an idea being researched was using peak solar and wind to store compressed air or whatever which would then be used to spin the turbines for power gen during off hours or as required. No need for batteries to store the power. Doesn't sound like a feasible idea for single home use though.
  14. BB, haven't you seen those threads here with epic pike and bass porn ? I'd hit QC any day, or night
  15. All one needs is any bit of incline and the snows will be well worth it. Woulda sucked in Montreal without them a few years back.
  16. and here it is... http://blogue.centrenad.com/2012/12/19/centre-nad-reassures-montrealers-no-danger-of-being-snatched-by-a-royal-eagle/?lang=en
  17. I dunno, the framing was off so the shadow coulda been just off the bottom ( you can see the relative location in the frame where you can see it) and out of the frame. Snopes didn't have anything on this yet so am giving the benefit of the doubt to the uploader. for now
  18. looks legit on first watch. shadows line up etc.. but am open to it being a good hoax. of course, I thought of this commercial after watching it lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqYOv3-nqUo

  20. One would think targeting the cormorant issue would be the least politically expensive option. I don't think there's much love anywhere for this bird so it would be a win win situation imo. Everything looks barren where ever they reside.
  21. Sounds like what happened in Withrow Park in Toronto a few years ago. A local who didn't like dogs in the park did similar. Think it was meat as well, not sure. A few dogs died I think, one was a King Charles that belonged to a high profile banker.
  22. surely they can't have been targeting dogs...if so, there's a special place in hell for them.
  23. well said Capt and Merry Christmas to everyone at Lakair !
  24. This is one knife some other outdoors travellers I know like. Can be used to baton kindling if needed. http://www.workwearcanada.com/fallkniven/detail.cfm?product=32 Also liking the Helle Gaupe or GT and their folders are nice as well. Attached to my whitewater pfd is a folding sheepsfoot Spyderco but it's a lighter duty knife.
  25. Is this graveyard shift ending with sunrise or late night shift (ending midnight, give or take) ? the latter being much easier to deal with.
