  1. don't need to repeat all the good words about Montreal but agree with the language being more important outside the city (I found anywhere from a couple of hours east and beyond was very trying). I haven't been yet but if you get a chance and have the pocketbook, go to Au Pied de Cochon. on my list of places I MUST try. and lastly, take a gander at this very informative thread....http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=70852&hl=poutine have a great time !
  2. you have to figure out a way to parlay this contract into some kind of job there even for minimum wage lol
  3. Saw this in Saturday's Globe and Mail. Gee is a columnist covering the circus that is Toronto city hall so this is an interesting piece from him. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/torontos-clean-little-secret-the-fishing-is-healthy/article13933727/#dashboard/follows/
  4. Wow, a perfect lesson on how to drive your business into the ground in spite of location, location, location. Must be other issues on the burner or maybe that's just the way he is.
  5. You should be able to just let the conductor know where you want off. Know the schedule well and don't forget to flag the train down for the ride back. Can't remember if people use a coloured flag or not to give the engineer a visual heads up. Never done this myself yet but know several who do this in the winter.
  6. ah, cool thanks Justin. Kinda like ripping a bandage off huh your video gives me another reason why I want to move to the Valley ! that and it's proximity to Quebec
  7. Man that's just great fishing Justin, non stop bassin'. Curious, I've never seen the mouth palm slap before for helping pop hooks/jigs. Also, would something like a Talon be useful in that shallow slop or do you like drifting into the beds ?
  8. I like this passage from the MNR page... Lethal action is a last resort If a cormorant is damaging your property, you may take lethal action to protect your property but you must not cause unnecessary suffering to the bird. You must follow firearm regulations and bylaws. You may also hire a wildlife control agent to act on your behalf.
  9. Thing is, no one knows whether or not this child could become someone brilliant. Don't know the level of autism of the child in the above story but this story is amazing. Einstein...I can hardly imagine. http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/health/autistic-boy-genius-iq-higher-einstein-article-1.1340923 and yeah, the useless turd that wrote the letter should just dry up and blow away in the wind....
  10. exactly Vance. the courses of two lives have been altered forever.
  11. It's not so much the fee (they should just bury it into their daily rates), it's them typing the password for you. That they don't trust me with the password would really bother me. ymmv
  12. Seriously ? That's kinda bush league. Lakair may have spotty coverage in the back 40 but at least they don't charge for it and it's a good excuse to hang out in the office and listen to Leslie and Kevin talk about their winter geology work
  13. I have friends in various levels of law enforcement and even this has me stunned. Some police haven't learned a thing even after the Edmund Yu inquiry (google this). Almost the exact same circumstances (ie-lone person in TTC vehicle). Most people saw Blair's statement the next day as basically saying the TPS messed up bad. I've seen some law enforcement (Boston) with very level heads in very tense situations and this officer was no where near their level. I know I'm judging him but he should NEVER wear a badge again. Ever.
  14. great video ! nice edits and variety of b roll. But what was up with that piggybacking frogger ??
  15. Something from the Globe about the MNR layoffs. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/wynnes-scaled-back-cuts-part-of-plan-to-reconnect-with-rural-regions/article13806259/#dashboard/follows/
  16. I for one would like to know which places to avoid in the future. In the age of the internets/web, businesses that use it to advertise (and fail to deliver or deliberately mislead) should fall on the sword via the web. Unless it causes legal grief for TJ and crew. My first visits to Totem Point and Lakair for example, were based on their web presence and these are two good examples of being honest and delivering what they show on their page (and more).
  17. Looks like you're thinking of throwing that beast over your shoulder for a fireman carry can't imagine handling squirrely musky that size
  18. I'd make sure the factory racks are secure to the roof or track rails. I've always used Thule racks that could handle four canoes easily (sitting on sides). There should be a tow hook under the van front and back as well for securing bow and stern lines. If there aren't any, Ainsely's suggestion of webbing bolted to the frame (be sure to use grommets as well)under the hood is what many of my friends do. An alternative to that are these Thule anchors which I have. http://www.thule.com/en-us/ca/products/carriers-and-racks/water-sport-carriers/water-sports-carrier-accessories/thule-quick-loop-strap-530-_-530999 It wouldn't be hard to fab something like these with strong tubing and static line. As well, I always use bow lines at the front to take some of the wind load off the roof racks as a strong side wind can really torque your canoe. The only canoe I don't use a bow line anchor is my 9' whitewater canoe.
  19. damn that sucks bags ! I like to think that they'll use it to catch their meat, in the slot, transport it without any skin, and get caught by a CO and thusly lose their boat, rods, car, Hello Kitty tacklebox....you get the drift. but yeah, pretty low. Hope it wasn't a local
  20. Sounds like it's close to being an epic trip what with the boat and trailer incident and all. Some fine looking pike and walleye there but you're bringing longer leaders and lures next time right ? Curious though if there's a good story from Jellicoe. I'd also admit that I'd be VERY spooked by rocks that decided to quickly show up from the depths of Davey Jones locker.
  21. The gazebo off the games room is where you'll probably spend a fair bit of down time and inevitably fall asleep nice view from there up/down the bay. fwiw, I found the crowd there pretty cool and laid back enjoy your trip !
  22. Accuweather radar imagery looks insane ! hope everyone just gets a soaking and nothing more (like fallen trees, powerlines etc..)
  23. You're absolutely right Davey, those canned compressed air horns are very loud and attention grabbing. I have one on whatever boat I'm in at all times. Make sure they're VERY accessible however.
  24. Have been to both places and you're going to enjoy your stay. Not as fancy as Wolsley Lodge or Moonlight but I found it very charming. Didn't venture to Chaudiere and hung around area around Cranes. Found bass in this vicinity (5 Fingers etc). Pike avoided my offerings when I was there have fun but mind the rocks there, they're nasty on props.
  25. That's a new one for me Roy, never heard this one before. But have similar sentiments re:violence.
