  1. Not sure why they would close pre fishing a few days before the tourney. Competitors were pre fishing the recent Bassmaster Classic the day before it started but the lake they were on was HUGE. I mean massive with a million bays/arms etc.. Very sandy with not very much structure save for a few trees here and there. Since it was early in the season, they could run WOT to their marked spots. anyways, fwiw, I wouldn't think there'd be much difference during the pre fishing days off so have at it and have fun !
  2. agree with the first two but not the fighting. I'd rather they went after guys who can do more than drop their gloves. Toronto needs speed and creative playmakers and passers. The rest will take care of itself and fighting is dying a slow death anyways and none too soon imo
  3. as long as MLSE have their hands in the pot, nothing will change. Most of the bums in the ACC seats won't stand waiting for a team to build over the long term. I predict an Oiler Cup waaaaay before Leaf nation will get close enough to sniff it. and for those who Believe, this Globe story might be a sobering read http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/is-mike-babcock-really-the-best-coach-in-hockey-how-do-we-know/article24380450/
  4. Apologies if this was posted previously but a search came up blank. Read this story in the local Almaguin News about the walleye hatchery problems this year. Hope something can be worked out. The link is for another pub. http://www.northbaynipissing.com/news-story/5615291-walleye-stocking-stalls-at-lake-nipissing-hatchery/
  5. don't understand the bike hate here and I drive daily in the toronto mess. fwiw, I'd sooner have a cyclist scoot up beside me than take the entire lane, as they're legally allowed to do. very few take the lane unless it's unsafe otherwise as they know that doesn't lead to harmony on the road. I ALWAYS lane check for bikes when turning right. it's a habit born from being a formerly aggressive cyclist in toronto. and while I know people were joking but door prizing a cyclist is going to cost you huge. HUGE.
  6. interesting but obviously not feasible imo. all depends on where one lives but by the time you buy a house, car etc, you could very well be left with nothing or maybe half a million or maybe more ? that's not enough if forced to retire at 50. just give me the million nsa and I'd be happy to take that buyout lol
  7. short answer, your mom needs help and that would be my priority as the next fall could be really bad. it's unfortunate your dad feels this way but it's totally understandable considering she's his life partner and the change is more than he can handle. A friend's dad is slowly deteriorating from dementia and her step mom isn't too happy about my friend wanting to move him to a better facility in Toronto where she can keep closer tabs on him. somewhat similar and more to offer support that others are in the same boat as you. you have my sincerest thoughts and I hope everything works out and keep detailed notes with times and names of staff.
  8. couldn't pay me to watch his fights. and how about Bones ? guy is spiralling out of control
  9. nice, I had the lantern habit but now I'm into Coleman stoves lol
  10. Very interesting and different concept from the traditional screw propulsion of current outboards. I guess for now it's an exercise or think tank thing but would be cool to see it make it to at least a working prototype. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-drive/culture/technology/new-style-of-outboard-engine-mimics-dolphins-tail/article24074031/
  11. didja hang a red flag off the tip of the rod I would have cried after seeing my new rod that was run over. woulda balled like a baby I would ha ha
  12. wow, that's service and a customer for life. and fwiw, I wouldn't trust bungees for anything important in the back of a truck. I'd strap it down properly but lessons learned I guess
  13. I keep checking on it now and then and Lakair's website's homepage now has a lovely post about Kevin. http://www.lakair.com
  14. tempted to replace my tires with the non inflatable/puncture proof ones but they seem pretty solid. anyone have any experience with these ?
  15. then hang it in the man cave
  16. what are the dimension ? length x width ?
  17. ok, just saw the other photos. The keel is very thin compared to canoes I've owned. If the blue is original that again would help. What intrigues me is the small, what appears to be metal, cap on the deck under the stem band. Have never seen that before and this will be a key clue imo. good luck and let us know what you find out
  18. Side view photos would help a lot as some canoes had recurves that were unique. Is there a shoe keel (about 3/4"x2 1/2" running most of the length of the canoe below waterline). But I would strongly suggest going to Wooden Canoe Heritage Association and poke around there. The Canadian Canoe Museum might be able to identify if they were to see photos but you'd need more photos and some closeups showing the deck etc.. As for value, much will depend on, as you say, the manufacturer, vintage and condition. If the planks/ribs etc are soft and punky, the value will drop as you can expect. Is it canvas covered, vinyl or glassed. The latter will again drop the value quite a bit as it make restoration a royal PITA. Don't be lowballed, look around at what other used cedar canvas canoes are worth and use that as a ballpark.
  19. nice. hope you kept old faithful and it's hanging some place special at your home or cabin
  20. K Dub Mike. that's the kind of place I would go to ! you can m the name of your place if you don't want to post it here and the Magnetawan area is great. The Mag is a great whitewater trip if you start at Ahmic to the Britt.
  21. what really surprised me was how easily the crown dropped the charges. did they not want to actually do some legwork ?
  22. very sad news indeed Lew. thanks for the update and if anything firms up re: Muskrats, please let us know.
  23. an earlier story with some more info. http://www.thespec.com/news-story/2243173--one-careless-shot-and-my-husband-is-taken-away-from-me-/
  24. This is just so wrong, hunter is criminally responsible no matter how you cut it. I hope the family nails the guy's backside in a civil suit.
