  1. I watched a series put on by the Discovery Channel, called The Universe. It goes into some very detailed explanations about our current state of knowledge, with respect to our planet and it's neighbours. The 45 minute section on The Sun, can't be recommended enough! On a side note, I think the whole global warming thing should be renamed: "Fear and loathing on Earth" HH
  2. I think Al Gore is beginning to hire new scientists for "An Inconvenient Truth 2"! He's run out of the old ones! These are opinions, everyone has one and we have been through this a hundred times... Ps... the sky is falling! HH
  3. Nice, really nice smallie guys! When I read the post title, I would have bet that it was a big silver thing that goes Bahh, bah! LOL HH
  4. Congrats Roger! Now wipe that big grin off yer face cause I'm gettin really jealous here! Enjoy the fruits of your labour! HH
  5. I did not intend this post to turn into another opportunity for some to take uncalled for jabs at our U.S. friends. I am suprised that some have taken it to the extreme, well not really because it does take all kinds to make a community, but this communty is without borders in my mind and I simply wanted to wish those folks potentially in harms way good luck and best wishes. I mentioned the Out Door Life article because I found it a somewhat shocking, but again, not having ever lived in their shoes, I can't really say what I would do... except get my family the heck out of harms way. To our southern friends... please don't let some folk's attitude tarnish yours. And let your friends and family's know we are thinking about them. HH
  6. Well, it looks like Hurricane Gustov, is heading for New Orleans with a passion! Now, I think we all feel bad for the folks down there and what that certainly don't need is another weather disaster. What I found most interesting is that according to Out Door Life, the number one selling "disaster supply item" right now in the area is rifles! I can't imagine what these folks have gone through and I certainly do wish them the best through this on-going ordeal and the one pending... but rifles and ammunition!? You'd think plywood, water etc... HH GCD - keep yer head down and yer boats dry bud!
  7. TO my mind, it's only worth it if Rogers is working! Heck of a drive to see virtually the same things as you will find at LB's. And from a pricing perspective, you may find things cheaper locally. However, that being said, if you in the market for clothing, BPS is virtually 2nd to none in that department... I find their fishing department to be the same as any other fairly large retailer. On the other hand, if you wife is a "shopper", than Vaughn Mills mall is her Utopia! And as mentioned above, Momma happy, daddy happy! If you do go, make it a point to see if Roger (BPS Bassman is his board name)is working... you will know if it's him, he's the guy that walks around with a huge smile on his face all the time, because you know what, he likes his job and more importantly, he like fishing people! HH
  8. I love your reports brother! Keep up the good work and man, that smallie was a football! HH
  9. Emil, if your driving on the 401 and the overhead sign says "traffic is moving well for the next three interchanges" and you see a ton of brake lights in front of you, would you brake? Well yah, you would, but would you then blame the MTO for posting un-acua\rate info? The weather is an in-exact science, the best weather indicator is to stick your head outside and MAKE A JUDGEMENT CALL! I'm finding your comments about the weather service somewhat dis-heartening as it seems to me that you have not learned your lesson yet, after two tough outings. I truly hope that you step back and take an OBJECTIVE view of what your doing and saying. I'm not sure that the weather folks would be lining up to tell your wife that they made a mistake and that's why her husband and son weren't coming home! I can't tell you how many posts I've read here that clearly stated that the weather man got it wrong... or how many folks said they didn't go fishin because of the weather predictions. Most of the responses to those posts have been, well I don't listen to the weather man, I went anyway and we caught this.... I understand those folks, they are typically fishing a smaller lake of river. But when venturing out on the Great Lakes, weather reports are meerly a suggestion, YOU have to make the judgement call. If I may Emil, may I suggest you leave your little one at home until you learn better how to gauge your surroundings... YOu should have gotten the heck out of there right away. I can't see any other argument holding water in this one! HH EDIT: being paid public finds does'nt mean that those folks can't make a mistake, or things can't change...if everyone here posted about what they felt was not getting value for their government dollars, we'd have a completely different board!
  10. Well Emil, I'm glad you made it back ok... but, and I gotta say this, what in the world are you doing taking a 3 year old out on lake Erie in a sub 25ft boat, with an inexperienced 2nd mate. I would have thought that last year's adventure would have taught you something. I don't care how good your boat is, unless it's at least 25 feet, there's no way in hell I would take my 3 year old out there. It's one thing to take the risk for yourself, you can make choices, but a 3 year old doesn't have that luxery. Fishing any of the Great Lakes is a risk, sometimes small, some times big, but I just can't get my head around why after what you went through last year, you would do it again! Blaming the weather people for your lack of interpretation of the conditions may make you feel better, but I can tell you that there have been many times where I have driven to a lake, only to find conditions that were not callled for, but not safe to fish. Your job as the "captain" of your boat is first and foremost, the safety of your passengers. At the first sign of trouble, lines in, make our way back. Sorry if this doesn't sit well with you Emil or any of the other members, but I just can't sit here and have you bad mouth the weather folks, when it's actually YOUR CALL to gauge the conditions you are taking people out in. HH
  11. Thanks G! I can't believe I'm that stupid! (Ok, there's yer set up, take yer shots!) Will have a good luck tonight! HH
  12. IT HAS MOUNTING HOLES ON THE BACK!!!!! I did not know that! Ok... so now I have to look. BTW - I did call Panasonic and they told me to call Bay Bloor Radio as they felt they would have a solution. I'd have to sell my first born to buy anything there! I just did a quick check online at the Paradigm site and according to Paradigm, my centre channel is almost 20lbs! I'll check tonight. HH
  13. Canuck... I tried putting it behind the tv, but I lost virtually all high end from the centre channel as the TV was deflecting it all over the place. Gerritt... the top of my tv can't be any more than 3 inches wide. Not sure if even rubber would provide the solid holding power I will need. Also, I'm concerned that the weight on top of the tv might not be a good idea , it get pretty darn hot and not sure if the plastic frame is designed to hold that weight. Thanks guys and keep 'em coming if you can! HH
  14. Thanks guys, Bernie, the speakers in my new tv are still no where near as good as the PSB fronts I use, so that suggestion, although appreciated, doesn't solve my problem. Peter, I've seen and heard that Yammy and yah, it's a great solution to multiple speakers, but I already have a centre channel from Paradigm and my problem is actually how do I mount it so that it is dead centre of the tv... the Yammy would present the same problem. HH
  15. Addy... I'm actually not sure if my Onkyo receiver allows me to do that! Regardless, the centre channel is currently sitting right above the front left surround speaker so, setting up a signal delay wouldn't really solve the problem from a sound definition perspective. HH
  16. When I see those pics I find myself asking the same question over and over again... Why do I live in the confounded city when there is a world of beauty, just up the road a ways! Congrats on your nuptials, she's definitely a keeper and thanks for the report! HH
  17. Hi folks, Well, last Wednesday my old tube TV decided to end it's own life, 15 years and many happy memories later, she's toast! I bought a new Panasonic Viera 46 incher, http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electro...000000000005702 that night and it looks great! But I have a problem and I'm wondering if any of you have a solution of suggestion. My centre channel used to sit on top of my old tube tv... well with the flat panel plasma, my Paradigm CC has no where to sit. The TV is resting in the stand that came with it, I have not mounted it to a wall and don't intend to, but right now, my CC is not close to the centre of the tv. I can't simply put it on the stand in front of the TV as it will then block out the remote eye. Does anyone have a suggestion, re brackets or a home made solution? I'd appreciate any ideas! Thanks, HH
  18. Thanks for the "nice" coments guys! Terry, I offered the guy in the cottage next door a beer if he would let me hold his fish! Wendel, the horse flies and deer flies at the slide were only bad on and off most days... I taught the kids how to kill 'em. When they're flying around your head, driving you nuts, just put your hand on your the top of your head, palm down, and they just can't resist landing on your hand. Smack'em with your other hand, stomp on 'em until they are burried inches into the ground, soak the area with gas, light it on fire and put a boulder over it. That usually get's 'em! (Seriously, the hand thing does work!) Bugs were really not a factor, except at dusk, I wouldn't know about them at dawn. I did make a little friend out of the chipmunk at the fire pit. He'd run up and down you once he found out you had some peanuts! Little bugger would take'em right out of my mouth! Funny when I'd be sitting, talking to someone and he'd run up and practically put his head in my mouth lookin for a peanut! First time viewers were quite surprised! Glad I could offer you some humour B! Micropterus hole - I had a good chat with one of the divers about their work... they have been hired by OPG to dive many of their power dams, to ensure that the gates were clear of lumber and to power wash the facings of the dam, obviously under water. Apparently the sound of the power washer attracts smallies because he told me that when they look around while working, it's not unusual for them to be surrounded by smallies, having a look to see what the commotion is about. And big one's too!!!! HH
  19. Thanks Cliff! I have been again struggling with this pic posting thing, but decided to check in again on the board a voila there they are! You sir are a true gentleman (no matter what FnS says! LMAO)! I hope you like the pics... I just noticed that I wear socks too much in the summer... that shot on the beach make me feel like "Billy white shoes Johnson"! Thanks again Cliff! HH
  20. Just don't let Wayne hold the cameras! HH
  21. Coming up shortly will be the one year anniversary of my Dad's passing... I know how you feel, be strong for those who need it and don't be afraid to ask for help from those who are offering... My deepest sympathies to you and your family from me and mine. HH
  22. My condolences to his family and all his friends... very sad indeed. HH
  23. Hey Bernie! The weather up there for us was great! It rained virtually all day the Saturday we travelled up, pretty much stopped within 1/2 an hour of us arriving and did not rain again until the Thursday afternoon and only for about an hour. Early mornings were a little nippy at 8 and 9 degrees, but the fire box worked great, with a couple of logs to take the morning chill out of the cottage. On the way home, we caught some rain in the Sundridge to Bracebridge run, but other than that, we were looking at "Simpson's skies" the whole week. Bernie, I would have stopped by for a quick visit, but with the kids with me, I really had to keep them locked down in the truck. As you know, it's a pretty long drive at 8 1/2 hours for a 4 and 6 year old... I promise next time, we will stop. HH
  24. Lookin great Bernie! I recall a smaller building, just ouside your cottage that sure did feel like an ice house the Saturday morning in February this year! I hope this means you get to do some more fishin now! Also, I tied up a few trailer hooks on some jigs last week up at Elk Lake... old school rocked! (But you already knew that!) HH
  25. Hi folks! Well, after numerous attemps yesterday to get all the pics working, my frustration got the better part of me and I gave up! I had every intention of doing a proper fix today, since I seem to have calmed down, but alas, the best made plans went down the tube! My 6 year old is sick and I'm home with him today... and my report and pics are at work!!! My appologies to all looking forward to the pics... hopefully I'll be back at work Friday and will get the pics up for you! HH
