Well, I believe that the answers are pretty simple, but simply not palitable to special interest groups. HH

They may be "officially" suspending netting during the spawn, but that hasn't stopped thoughs who stick their finger up at the offical declarations... it's happening and will continue to happen, until there is a full crash, then, things may change. But the old saying says, the more things change, the more they stay the same. HH
-
Your opinion, but my info has come from locals... and yes, the fishery on Nipissing has crashed before... but locals tell me that nets are showing up in areas that have not been netted before... and running nets across spawning rivers, during the spawn is not a good way to manage the fishery. HH
-
Yup, that pretty much covers it... sad for those who make the trip up and have seen this fishing paradise, turn into anything but... but even sadder for the folks who live there and have seen there passtime decimated. HH

I sell people, have been doing it for a Long Time. I may submitt three qualified people to a client. I know I am in trouble as soon as the client ask me, which one do I think is best. IT has happened too many times and as soon as I respond, I have a 33% chance of being right... I don't like those odds... So, do I have to believe in my product... no, but I do have to believe in my clients ability to determin what product they want to buy... but this assuming that I have done my leg work up front. I am certainly not going to tell a customer they are making a mistake, as I was the one who presented the option in the first place. If I know my business and I do, my belief in something takes a back seat to the decision of the customer. I hope that clears it for yah! HH

Well, as a guy who has been doing sales for over 20 years, I don't necessarily agree with this... I really don't have to beleive in anything, well anything outside of closing. I may believe it, but if I am so sure and the customer is not so sure , what I believe doesn't matter. My best advice to new sales folks is always the same... God gave you two ears and one mouth for a reason... think about it! Book smart and street smart are two distinctly difference things. My advice to O.P. ... attend the school of hard knocks, you'll learn more and faster that way. HH

Glad you were able to get up Wayne and I hope that the fish are more cooperative for you this coming weekend... Have a great time guys... but be sure to leave those herrings alone, they still send me cards every now and then!!! HH -
I'm bring my cordless hammer drill and a pack of Tapcons and I'm gonna mount my chair on the side of the building here at work so I can get a really good seat for the parade! HH

I remember as a kid, Dardevles were a very popular lure. Strolling through my local CTC, I would gawk at them, pining to have the few extra dollars that a real Eppinger lure would cost, as opposed to the CTC special, which was cheap nickel coated, lousey paint job and half the weight. Eventually, as funds became more readily available, I began buying REAL Dardevles and found that my catch ratio went up. I have a number of your standard red and whites as well as some of their other colour offerings. I also had them in different sizes and were for some time, my go to pike lure. Care to share any Dardevle stories? Here's a good place! HH ****Edited to reflect proper spelling of the lure... can't correct the topic title though!

Good story Lew, but did you get the rod and reel back? You just don't see folks pulling Daredevils that much anymore... but boy do they cover water, cast a mile and I've found them to be multi-species as well... Heck, maybe I'll start a thread about them, so as to not highjack this thread anymore than I have.LOL HH

A big ass Daredevil and a couple of casts and you get both the rod and the fish back! HH

^ is a song I am trying to convince my cover band to do... we have decided to make our band a all dance, all the time type of bar outfit. Frantic City is one of my faves and "let's dance", probably is the most dancable on the album... I have not heard of "The Head" playing anywhere locally, I don't know how they would replace Franky... but given the number of times I have seen them and the great time had each and every time, I would be inclined to catch them and see how they are sounding these days. Mostly marshmellows actually! HH

Howdy folks... This past weekend was our annual winter GTG at Bernie's on Nip... Bernie, myself, Cliff and FishnSled. We fished the evening bite Friday, all Saturday and to show for our efforts, one Pickereye under the slot... two Pickereye's smaller than your average Perch... oh, but I did catch 3, 6inch perch as well... Fishing aside for a moment, we have our usual laughs, good food and good company... weather had no bearing on the weekend... Now, not to stir things up too much, but I can't help but wonder why we are seeing so many people struggling to get what has until recently been a pretty good a steady fishery. I know the reason and I also know that many of you do as well, but I didn't want to draw that stink into this post... just yet another great big THANKS to Bernie for inviting us, being a wonderful host and putting up with us fools all weekend. Bernie took most if not all of the pics, so I'll let him have at it, when he has time! HH
-
Bring you Perch stuff cause there are no Pickereye's left on Nip... sad actually because I can tell that over the last three years, the numbers have dropped... Four guys fished two days at Bernie's this past weekend, one keeper Pickereye in places that we have historically netted fish... Gonna have to start looking at other bodies iof water, if I want to take home a feed... unless of course I want to catch perch! HH

I find the prices for meat there to be very fair... and actually in some cases much cheaper. I like to cook flank steaks. Done properly, they can be fantastic. I can buy one flank steak at Metro, for between $12 and $15, depending on size, obviously. Cheaper if/when they ever go on sale. Costco, I get two steaks, for about the same price. So to my mind, it depends on what you want/need. I will buy a hole strip loin roast there. (Here's a ltttle secret for yah... make sure when you buy meat there, that you are buying Canada AAAA beef, not the USA AAA beef. The Canadian beef taste much better to me!) I'll cut it into steak sizes, individually wrap them, then they hit the freezer. This is an extremely cost effective way of getting great steaks and a reasonable price. I do the same with their Rib Eye roasts. Know your prices, know what you want and Costco can be a great place to shop. Go inthere with no list, no ideas... get ready to be raped at the cash out counter! HH

Am I Going to be OK?; Are you Going to be OK?

"Meet the new boss... same as the old boss!" HH -
Their strip loins are the BEST... actually all of their meat is 2nd to none im my books... I got my ice auger there this year and it was priced lower than cost at many retailers, so I am happy. As has been mentioned, you gotta know your prices... but, they do have one off deals that the stores get and they can be great deals, if the timing is right. Kirland batteries are great, half price compared to anything else and my kids go through batteries like Carter goes through pills. Pick up one of their Strip loin roasts, cook it properly and then ask me if the membership is worth it! HH

Nets under the ice near spawning shoals is really gonna help a lot, isn't it? HH

Man charged after defending his home!
Headhunter replied to Headhunter's topic in General Discussion
I have to agree with everyone who has replied so far... survival instinct would take over in a flash... That being said, I am however awaiting a post here from someone who will disagree with the majority and tell us why he deserves to go to jail... or why he should have just moved his residence... HH -
http://news.nationalpost.com/2011/01/20/man-faces-jail-after-protecting-home-from-masked-attackers/ Maybe he should have actually shot them... atleast there would be a real reason to charge him! HH

A man was leaving a convenience store with his morning coffee when he noticed a most unusual funeral procession approaching the nearby cemetery. A black hearse was followed by a second black hearse about 50 feet behind the first one. Behind the second hearse was a solitary man walking a dog on a leash. Behind him, a short distance back, were about 200 men walking single file. The man couldn't stand the curiosity. He respectfully approached the man walking the dog and said, "I am so sorry for your loss, and this may be a bad time to disturb you, but I've never seen a funeral like this. "Whose funeral is it?" "My wife's." ''What happened to her?" The man replied, "My dog attacked and killed her." He inquired further, "But who is in the second hearse?" The man answered, "My mother-in-law. She was trying to help my wife when the dog turned on her." A very poignant and touching moment, of brotherhood and silence, passed between the two men. "Can I borrow the dog?" The man replied, "Get in line."
