  1. lots of shore fishing - check big carp - check pike (big and small) - check bass (smallies & largies) - check perch - check I fish there once or twice a year because its close to my folks place. Not a #s lake but you can catch the odd big bass or pike. Try to find some healthy weeds. Never caught a carp but seen lots of them. Theres always jumping and getting me to throw my lures hping its a bass feeding on surface.
  2. Gobies feed on eggs of other species and I wonder how they're explosion has affected the hatch #s of resident fish. Has the MNR been doing any studies? Sure the smallies and big and plump now but what happens in ten years when they die off?
  3. 1. texas rigged 7" berkley power worm 2. zoom - horney toad 3. crankabit - chrome big-o 4. topwater - chug bug 5. bluefox inline spinner - various sizes - catches all species
  4. I'll also pre-rig my plastics and have them ready to go: craws & worms - texas or shakey heads swimbaits and frogs - weighted hooks A good quality snap can reduce line twists.....so they say. I'm still struggling with line twists on flouro
  5. RIP Belak - In interviews he sounded like a fun jovial guy
  6. I'll usually plan my locations the night before. Always keep at least 2 setups going. One for slow presentation, one for fast. For the fast setup I'll use a quality snap so I can change lures quickly (crankbaits, spinnerbaits, some top water). Some people would be dead against this because it affects the action of the lure. I find if the fish are active then and your using a fast presentation....they'll hit reagrdless of snap swivel.
  7. so to recap: chinnies are chinook salmon? bows are good/bad for the population? flossing is legal or illegal in Ontario? best to fish the mouth with under floats cause they don't bite once they head upstream? Once everyone chats on message boards about river runs, its already too late?
  8. Awesome, your son will be hooked for life!
  9. very nice report! If you like the skitter pop you should try the Chug Bug 3". Its my go to bait for topwater, and has helped me catch some of my best bass. Cheers!
  10. I don't river fish either......unless its for bass or pickeral in the Grand. But this thread has been very entertaining!
  11. 20 fish....with two 5ers.....in a few hours. I'm so jealous!
  12. I like the Yum horney toad - natural or white has worked well this year. Hook is usually a 1/8" to 1/4 weighted swimbait style hook depending on weed thickness and water depth. Is very versatile as you can fish it fast on top of water or fish it slower and drop it into pockets. I also like texas ridded 7" power worms and chigger craws. Alwasy braid, cuts the weeds nicely and has super strength.
  13. my main focus would be bass but thanks for the tips.
  14. just wondering if anyones knows of shore fishing locations around Scugog they care to share? It looks like a lot of private property from google maps. I'm in Oshawa for work Friday and thought I may drive up and try my luck for bass, walleye or pearch. much appreciated.
  15. I grew up around Christies and fished there alot as kid and into my teens. The stocked trout ponds produced very few fish over the years. Caught a few largemouth bass by the dam but that was along time ago. They constantly are draining the lake, so weeds rarely get a chance to grow. I have seen the lake drained and there is zero structure. Probably the worsdt option of the three but I haven't been back in at least 5 years. Binbrook is your best option. I have caught largies on the rocks by the dam and a bunch of eatable crappies too. I usually go there once or twice a year cause has a lot of shore fishing. Bass - small crankbaits and blue fox spinners. crappies - little jigs. Valens had fish many years ago but the last two times I went I got skunked.....I have no faith in that place.
  16. bass tackle comment was meant as a joke since it caused such a stir yesterday......No harm intended!
  17. Nice skiis.........caught on bass tackle????
  18. Care to share your technique (live bait, drop shot, tubes)???
  19. if you have a medium heavy baitcasting outfit for bass, you could modiy it with 60lb braid and should be able to handle a decent size fish. even if you set up your medium spinning rod with heavy duty line (braid 60 lb or greater) you should be able to handle fish but run of the risk of two things. Snapping you rod because you can't use the rod as backbone to muscle the fish.....and ruing the drag on your spinning reel.
  20. what a beauty! I've seen that guide's name (Paul Castanelo) before, maybe on bob Izumi or something. I guess it was definetly worth paying for a guide!
  21. this is so X files! I say fresh water jellyfish
  22. I hate seeing all kinds of plastic bottles, lure rappers, worm containers, beer bottles on the banks. Drives me nuts. I yelled at a dude last weekend when he tossed his no frills bag into a bush
  23. Those are some beauty Bass, nice job! Speaking of weightless baits......I suck with them. I have mainly tried senkos (weightless or w/ small weighted hook) and can't get a fish to bite. I think I'm missing alot of fish on the fall. I have no confidence in them, and usually switch back to 7" berky power worm texas rigged (1/4 oz of bigger) depending on weeds & depth. I see tons of people using them and having success. I must be doing something wrong or have bricks for arms. I like the high vis line idea. Any tips would be apprciated. thanks
