  1. thats sound slike a nice trick, what kind of success rate are we talkin?
  2. I have eaten them twice in my life.....sadly I enjoyed both experiences. My policy is stricky catch & release too. I figured the fish gods won't shine down on me when I'm warming up the skillet. Maybe why I never seem to catch pickeral!
  3. I would disagree with some of the main arguments the article is making. We don't have accurate scientic information, so we don't know its affecting the ecosystem at all. What do the Asina Carp eat & where do they spawn, and at what time of year? That would help scientists focus on the species with facing the most competition. If Asian carp eat fish eggs, I don't see how the ecosystem will not be affected. Southern states lacking resources to harvest fish. From what I understand no one harvests these to eat and are only used for feed. Someone early wrote that an ecosystem will balance itself out. I completely agree but at what cost. If the Asian carp enter the great lakes and increase their population, what species will ultimately decline in numbers. I would be hesitant to decide if the Gobby hasn;t negatively effected the ecosystem with their invasion. Yes, the smallmouth in Lake Simcoe and Erie are huge, but these fish are also the older generation. The gobbies prey on smallmouth eggs and what effect does this have over the last 10 years of smallmouth fry surviving and growing into adults. On the flip side, can you imagine the potential size of predatory fish like muskie, pike and salmon?
  4. Caught giant carp around the Marina at Samuel Smith Park in Etobicoke. Funny, I was throwing a spinnerbat for any cruising pike and snagged a 10' piece of line hooked into the carps mouth. Spotted a largie swim by but he wanted nothing to do with my jig.
  5. the trek into the bush to find a secret lake is the adventure. to catch a bunch of smb is the reward!
  6. thats a tough call. If I caught a fish over 50 lbs, potentially being a record......I'd like to think I would release her. The scales most people carry usually only go to 50lbs, so you couldn't even get an accurate #. A fish with such a disproportionate belly will most likely estimate accurately with girth & length measurements.
  7. not Rapala but I had 2 chrome Big-O's fall apart on me. Last year, the paint chipped off, and this year, after only one fish (smallie - 1 lb) the back oring & treble hook broke off. I wonder if we get in touch with the customer service departments and email them some pictures if they will send new lures.
  8. what was the bait, small ducklings?
  9. nice idea for the sausage rolls, I might have to try that. do you take the sauge out of the casings or do you mix the ground meat from scratch? cheers
  10. Personally, I always throw the big ones back. Take a picture and let her go to produce offspirng and hopefully catch another day. The smaller ones are usually tastier too.
  11. I would agree with 3 to 3.5 lber. nice measuring trick Craig.
  12. Welcome to Lunkerville, you can join Mike D for his next episode! lol
  13. nice fish! Horwood lake is quite far for me. I'm surprised so many of you have been there.
  14. thanks for the replies. fishing unfortunately will not be priority #1, but I will be getting my line wet while the boat is cruising. I beleive our boat is from Happy Days Houseboats. I'll share some pics when I get back. I have heard a rumor that you can only drink while the boat is docked. Does anyone know if this is true or if its enforced on the lake & waterways. We have designated for the whole trip so there will be no drinking & boating for the driver.
  15. Hey folks, I'm going on a houseboat adventure for a bachelor party and was hoping some of you would share your experiences. Our path will be leaving from Bobcagen Pigeon Lake along Trent Waterway, through Sturgeon Lake to Lindsay and return. I have only fished the Kawarha's once years ago, and enjoyed catching bass on soft plastics. I have also never been or fishing on a houseboat and was wondering what to expect. Any comments appreciated, or any hazourdous and shallow areas to watch out for, & of course any fishing tips appreciated. Hoping to land a Muskie trolling. thanks in advance.
  16. you guys have must beaty spots! If I catch one bass an hour (15-16 inch keeper) I'm happy. Or one big bucket over 3.5lb a day I'll be pleased. I normally fish heavily pressured conservation areas.
  17. is the black & blood red bait the Berkley Havoc?
  18. I had a good outing trolling ont he Grand last year on a friday afternoon evening: 1 pike - 20", 2 pickeral - 20", 2 - smallies (1 & 2lber), & 5lb sheephead. All fish released. I agree with the pike cycle theory. I have caught a ton of small pike so far this year in 3 outings (somewhere around 30).
  19. looks like you crushed them!
  20. Awesome! Looks like a trip of a lifetime!
  21. favorites in order: Tenderloin, NY striploin, ribeye, ribs, chicken, salmon. I also like to rub my meats with oil oil then montreal steak spice. the olive oil gets the outside searing not & hot to lock in the juices.
  22. beauty specs! too bad those entrepreneurs couldn't clean up their trash. All that plastic and mess will take way beyond our years to decompose.
