Thanks thats good info I will throw some heavier line on for the trolling rods forsure. I have seen a bunch of 50 + musky pictures from my cousin who has fished this lake for years so I would rather be ready and prepared with the right gear. What is best a net or a cradle. I am thinking more in terms of the fish best interest i noticed a twice the net get caught in the teeth and both time scrap my fingprints off and more getting the net off so the fish didnt rip his mouth of rolling. Does the craddle keep them from going nuts like they do in the net, I didn't take the fish out of the water until he was unhooked either as supposed to. Just wondering so I can get the fish back as fast as possible. I think the net I had may have been a bit over kill. Thanks for all the help and hopefully before season closes I will get my chance at a 40+ and have another musky report. Now time to go throught my bass gear and see what I can do with out. haha.

Hey Mike thanks for that info. I would rather cast with a curado then a round reel as well. Like I said I like to cast more then I do troll, so the curado is something I think I would be more likely to get. If I do decide to troll would my dipsey reel work they have 50lbs braid on them. Or would that type of reel not hold them well.

Yea I hear ya. I always ask about rods and reels before I buy them. I am looking into getting a new reel for musky. I was lucky that they were hitting the bucktail as I spooled my citica with 50lb power pro. I know that reel isn't meant to throw big lures so I want something for around 200 that will handle good sized lures as well as musky bucktails and that. For the most part I will just be casting. Any good thoughts on some reels for around 200. Also for the rod I don't want to spend an arm and a leg so does any one know how the St. Croix Mojo Musky rods are? I have used the mojo bass and I had no problems with them. Also what would be the best rod choice a MH fast tip? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Mike. I told my friend to get that same lure in the first place as I was told to try that certain colour pattern and my friend said no lol. I did have a few other lure with the same colour pattern but they wouldn't hit. I also got 2/3 doing a jerk and pause and my friends was as well. It shows why these fish are so hard to catch. I will be selling some bass gear now for sure and be getting some more musky gear.

I don't care for the nanofil either. I bought a spool when it first came out and put it on my spinning reel. It was crap for drop shot as a main line and for casting it did cast nice and smooth but after casting for a few days I found it started to almost fray like braid, I don't know that it is actually fraying or just breakint down but I will stick to braid. I am going to try the new power pro slick though and see how that is. I just noticed fishing world is carrying it.

Thanks again. I don't care about my grammar that much although after re-reading it, well it truely was horrible. Oh well and thank you for understanding that posting from a phone is not that easy but rather then wait to post it, I did it now.

Great report and perfect grammar haha. Nice going though, some nice bass there.
-
Thanks all. I finally know what people are talking about when they say musky fight good I can't wait to get something bigger.

Hey there every one. I haven't posted in awhile. This week is something the I figured was worth posting. My friend and I went on our first trip musky fishing, after talking with my cousin and reading lots on fall musky fishing we were of to the Kawarthas. We left friday around 10am to miss the traffic and got to our destination in good time. We launch the boat and figured out then that the battery was dead haha. So it was to late to go and get a battery so we just kept the boat in at the docks as we planned to do for the weekend. Rather then just give up and a bit of day light left we decided to cast from shore. Sure enough after about 20 mins BAM I got one on and get it in. Finally landed my first Musky. I don't have a picture of that one as my friends camera was right there and ready at the time. I didn't have a measuring tape ready so didn't measure it but I think it was around 30 or 32 inches. Nothing huge but still a great fight and great feeling. We fished awhile longer and then went back to the hotel for the night. Next morning we were up early and got a battery then right to the boat. We get everything reasy and we are off. we were fishing for about and hour and this thing hammered my bucktail not once but twice and thank god he got it. It is my biggest musky yet and an awesome feeling. 39 Inch Well after that nothing could have made my day bad. I have read and heard of lots of people being skunked there first time and some first few times so I was happy to say the least. Well we fished for awhile with out much action we had one chase my friends bait but would take it. Well all of a sudden I am turned around and talking to my buddy and this thing hammers my bucktail again scared the crap out of me. Well I got hin in quick knew he was smaller so just a quick pic and back he went. Well we fished for a bit longer and I know it sucks to get skunked and I let my buddy use the bucktail I had and was getting all the fish on. Well about a half hour later I hear him yell fish on. He got the fish in quick netted abd after a quick pic he put him back and didnt care to measure him. that ended up being it for the weekend. I can easily say my best and most memorable fishing trip. Nothing better then best friends since the age of 3 get there first musky each on there first trip. An I couldn't be upet with going 3/3 on my first trip. Hope you guys enjoy and I hope to break the 40 inch very soon. Thanks Chris

I use 10lbs or 15lbs braid with a 8lbs flouro leader about 10 feet long.

I didn't realize I called you names. haha I don't need to say any more you made it clear.

I lived there for 5 years. Not a place you need to worry about at all like I said go for a walk down Barton St. or go hang out at Jackson Square, you want to see real scum. I garuntee you walk down around either place and you would crap your pants if you think Peterborough is bad. As for the methadone clinics you obviously read that in the paper from a few years ago when they open the one across from the city bus station next to champs. Every city has them and I think its about time you people take your heads out of your asses and realize maybe they are there to help people and you snooty people don't believe in giving people another chance. I would put money on it that if they didn't have the clinics there would be that much more crime.

Drop Shotting Smallies on Lake Erie
Live2fish85 replied to Aaron Shirley's topic in General Discussion
Hey Aaron you cant get those hooks that David Chong showed from Fishing world I am not sure if Greg has them at Bill's Bait. They do work well on Erie though. -
Sinker you are due to get off the nipple I think. There is crime no matter where you are. I grew up in a small country town and our house was robbed as I said no matter where you are there are drugs and crime. Peterborough is nothing close to a scum hole unless your a sheltered little boy.
-
Lol if you think Peterborough is suvh a horrible city you may want to venture out a bit more. As for the crack heads that you see on the streets they are harmless and dont really bother any one. It was probably some dumb punks or wanna be thugs that broke into your car. Comr park down on Barton and Burnsdale in Hamilton and walk around down there. That isn't the worst part either. You had one ufortunate thing happen which happens in any city or town.

I lived in peterborough for 5 years while the wifes was at Trent U. I love it there moves back a few years ago when we had our daughter. I have missed it ever since. Great little city.

I agree, I listen to my habs fan friends all the time. It's nice to not hear the leaf jokes for once, now there looking like jokes lol. They couldn't even win when Gus was in net haha.

Hands down I would go with the Samsung they are known for there computers, tv and phones. Motorola isn't nearly as good in my mind. I own samsung for all my electronics from tv, computer lap top cant go wrong. I agree to apple is a pain in the neck. They a great product but cost an arm and a leg to get them and the accessories for them. Spend the extra 100 and get something that will last. And has a good name behind it.
-
Great report G-Man. It was nice to meet you and it was great to get out on the water with you and your dad. Glad to hear you and your dad had some good luck out at the bluffs, looks like you guys had a better day there.
-
I am going with smallie cause the head but it does look like a cross.
-
It all depends were you are fishing. For the most part head a bit deeper to a drop off and try tubes or drop shot. The bass will be slowing down on the most part. Last time I was out they wouldn't touch anything spinners or anything but soft plastics. If your in shallow try rippin something that rattles at a good spped see if ypu get a follow if you do have another rod ready with a softplastic and toss it out. Just remember the slower the better.

Thanks Roy. I did that last night after posting this and did find some info on the fish in there. Hopefully I can do alright there.
