Another thing that grinds my gears is even having to bring xl garbage bags with me when I venture the shores fishing with my kids. Should not be needed at all. Our snack bags and empty water bottles go back in our tackle bags. Funny thing. Here, there are little to none out on the shorelines fishing. Its all from boats throwing their garbage in the river. Then the water drops and current focus it up on shore in certain points/shallows etc. Almost everytime we go out we leave with tackle bags, sometimes fish if we plan a meal, and at least one xl garbage bag. Sad really. And probably 80% of that garbage is beer bottles, whisky bottles and beer cans. Nice and classy

Haha thats wicked Gallie!!! Limeyangler came and fished with me a few years back and caught a rod we lost a few months earlier. Pretty funny i spent hundreds of hours if not thousands at that spot, and limey hooked it and landed it within a half hour or so haha -
Thats funny:) but consider yourself lucky. That border can be brutal alot of times. Go catch some ontario fish!!!

My son lost a rapala xrap to a pike. I told him id get it back. It took 3-4 hours but low and behold, i caught it and got our xrap back. Crazy thing is, we got two xraps back, both identical. Bonus!!!! Another was me and my daughter, 8 at the time, entered a local walleye derby. Well it rained that day(in winter) and the derby was cancelled due to unsafe driving conditions. My daughter inisted we still go. I told her if she caught a walleye in the 8 to 10 lb range, i would pay her the money we expected the derby to generate for biggest walleye. About 4 hours in, right when the derby would have finished, she lands a beauty walleye! 30", but no scale, i guessed between 8-9lbs. On a pink jig. That promise cost me $800. Now my daughter thinks fishing is easy, all it takes is a pink jig and a stupid father, lol -
Im just happy to watch hockey again, no matter what. Some of this trash talk is fun and games, others just take it too seriously. And however compared klarkson to stevie y has serious mental issues.

Bunk, you have a serious gift, or gifts I should say. Your reports make me feel like I was right there, experiencing the fishing, the food, the nature and the laughs. Please ponder writing a book, pretty please? Your reports are much longer then the average, but not long enough... I would read a 1000 page book written by you, probably in a day or two. Only to be mad it wasnt longer. Your stories envoke envy, but a good envy. They make you appreciate all that is good. Thats a special gift bunk. Thanks for sharing that gift with us

Yeah real high water this year. Turned out good though. We seemed to have a real good walleye/pike/bass spawn which is awesome. The high water also brought in perch and crappie. That walleye my son is holding is not as big as it seems. He was helping release tourny fish. That wasnt our catch, it was our cousins. If i remember correctly it was 8.41 lbs. Still a beauty though

yeah it must be different up here. I've gotten to know 3-4 COs pretty darn well over the last 5 years. Even out on the back lakes i still get checked probably 50% of the time. Always nice other then on time on big sawbill one guy was fairly rude

lol yes but i never said anything bout peppermint hahahaha. Bonus. We found two small wild strawberry bushes today, oh the odds! I have no gardening skills at all, Dave how can you replant these? Or are we better off just leaving them be? I've seen wild strawberries twice in my life, and omg! If love to replant these if possible
-
oh man thats awesome. Id jump all over that!
-
Oh and watch and inspect what your kids forage! My daughter found what she identified as honeysuckles. After mom checked it out it was columbine and thats poisonous. And Dave, not all mint is hybrid, there is a mint family, some native some not
-
Neeeeeice!!!
-
nah i think its a hybrid, false apple mint maybe? I'll ask the better half tomorrow
-
we have another kid of mint here as well but the name escapes me. A good book to have is edible and medicinal plants of canada. Its a good start for those without an education in related fields or just want some general info on plant/herb/tree identification and uses

yep our eyes are always open and we are almost never disappointed. I always bring 2-3 or those reusable grocery bags when were in the bush or just out and about. Last week we found a wicked blueberry patch. Walked out with enough for a whole year after 2-3 hours, and still left plenty for the bears lol. One thing we have found i abundance is chocolate mint and wild mint. Makes awesome teas when dried out. That stuff is everywhere here.

Lots of lola in this thread:)we forage everything possible, from raspberries, raspberry leaf, plantain, dandelion, stinging nettle and the list goes on and on. Out on fishing trips my kiddos can identify plants, rinse and eat. Makes me proud

In the last 10 years I've seen 4 in NW ontario. One right here in manitou chasing a deer across the road. One on cedar narrows road where we see about 15-20 rabbits ru across the road, looked at each other and thought that was weird, looked forward to see a large cougar in pursuit, crossed the road in one stride! One in eagle river/eagle lake, again chasing deer in an open farmers field. And one sickly dead one on our weigh station when i worked in ear falls. That one was might thin and appeared to be diseased or starved. MNR were called for that one. Very small cat, maybe 60 lbs
