  1. It is torture, especially when I was fishing this time last year on the boat and this year the ramp is frozen. That's why the boat has been retired for the year or else I might have had some opportunities to use it a few times before winter
  2. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and insight. I did read up a little bit on this before making the decision. I just wanted to open up another discussion with those that might have some experience with different types of boats. It's not everyday that a used boat this nice comes along. It was a gut decision and I knew I wasn't overpaying. I really like the forum and I know there are knowledgeable fisherman that have great opinions.
  3. I am sure this topic comes along every so often but I recently purchased a Ranger 621fs. I am coming from 2 previous aluminum boats, a crestliner fishhawk 1650 and a Lund Pro v 1875. This is the 2nd biggest purchase I've made in my lifetime. I fish for bass and walleye on the great lakes and big rivers. I just wanted to start the discussion for all people that made the switch from an aluminum to a glass boat or vice versa. I am curious what your opinions are regarding the difference fishing out of these different platforms. I only went for a test drive in the Ranger and pulled the trigger, I have yet to fish out of it. The boat is put away for the winter and I will be picking it up in March/April.
  4. Maybe I read this wrong but what is the point of cooling your tank down to 13 degrees? Youre taking bass from a livewell that might be cooled by ice or might be continually aerated. It's not likely one of those livewells was 13 degrees when they got to weigh in. Whatever fish made it to the tanks was probably then killed from over chilling those tanks. I could be totally wrong but too much ice can kill fish just as quick as not enough. Mortality rate was actually higher the 2nd day they decided to cool the water even more. I've fished a few tournaments and unfortunately I've also had fish die. I am always caring for my fish and always trying to find new ways to take better care of them. This is the part of tournament fishing that sometimes makes me not want to participate anymore.
  5. That is a pretty cool vid
  6. I called up Megaware keel guard which looks like a similar product to gatorguard and they say their product needs to be air and water tight or it won't adhere. That is something that crossed my mind, I don't want to be the guinea pig though.... if anyone has tried it with success I would like to know
  7. Less of an issue for sure, but if I can still find a way to protect the aluminum from getting scraped and dented it would be nice.
  8. The lund pro v has the riveted strake on the keel which it says it's incompatible with that installation, but I see a few pics online that looks like it worked
  9. Hey I see a picture online of someone who installed one (gator guard) on a riveted boat. I wonder if it stayed on.
  10. Hello everyone, I have a Lund Pro-v (aluminum), it's my 3rd year with the boat. Just curious if anyone suggests getting a keel guard? I pull my boat up lots onto shore. I fish alone a lot and this makes it much easier for me to launch and retrieve the boat at some of the launches I use. Lots of these areas are mud, sand, sometimes scattered rock but I noticed I'm getting some wear and scratches on the keel. Will this eventually cause any considerable damage? Any suggestions or experience with this issue? Thanks!
  11. Rondeau bay! Bit longer of a drive but some great multi species opportunities.
  12. You'd be surprised how much the fish in these waterways travel, there is many fish in the Saint Clair river that will be out in Erie later this year and there's many fish in the Detroit river that will be up in Huron. They don't have shock collars on keeping them in certain lakes. There is so many different migrations of fish moving through the system and there is an abundant amount of fish in the system right now.
  13. I use 65lb braid in the thick stuff on my flipping stick and ill also throw frogs in the thick mats with it. No reason to go more than 30lb braid for any other application unless youre trolling steelies and salmon on the big water.
  14. Can't help but feel bad for the guy that lost his thumb to this walleye
  15. Could be a rumour, but one of the fellas who runs musky charters out of LSC said there was one recently tagged in the past few years in LSC and was caught in the Welland canal a year later. Never would have thought they were so nomadic. Obviously Mike Pike has heard similar tales.
  16. so much for the sayin " it's pickerel in canada and walleye in the states". I'd love to hear the true story behind the nomenclature
  17. I've been using the trick shotZ for my drop shot bait and I've used the same one for about 20 fish. I am nose hooking it. Hasn't ripped or flung off on any of 'em yet. Hard to buy other baits when you get your money's worth with all this elaztech stuff
  18. Oh no! I'm that dude eh? Hahaha!
  19. This bait is absolutely awesome for smallmouth. Who has gotten on the train? I know it's not that new but I am hooked! Curious with how you like to fish it. Jigheads? plastics? weights? setups? depths? cover? presentations? This bait is outfishing all of my other traditional smallie presentations right now. It's also a killer bait for jumbo perch lol!
  20. Looking at this option more and more lately. If anyone has any input whether it would be a good investment I'd like to hear your experience with it. I'm also curious if anyone has been able to mount the transducer to a Terrova.
  21. Gerogies, woodies, flatsticks, believers. Some of these lures have never been wet and others lightly used. Georgies are wire through baits and are super tough! Would like to sell as a lot. $300.
  22. And I thought it was too expensive down here...haha. Welcome to Chatham!
  23. any good wet brine recipes?
