  1. My screen on my HDS 8 is slowly fading black from the corner in. I bought the used boat this year. It's a 2012 and thats when the HDS was mounted. I was told to call Ramakkos in Sudbury or Radioworld in Toronto. Called Toronto first because I am closer. Guy wasn't very eager to help and made me feel as if I was wasting his time. Told me the guy I need to deal with isn't there til December. Called Sudbury and they said I can send in my unit and they would look at it and offer me upgrades at a price with a supposed credit for the unit that is slowly breaking. Has anyone had to deal with this? They said they can't offer a fix only a new unit. Would love to hear any input and possibly what I might be looking at for a new unit. They couldn't give me a price over the phone. Thanks
  2. ive used zip ties for years, no problems yet
  3. Continuing to read this thread is the definition of insanity. Everyone is comparing different fisheries. If you could only get a 3lb smallmouth out of that school look for schools of bigger fish. Being an LSC smallmouth fisherman you will find that certain times of year you will see schools of fish and catch 50 2lbers and they are all the same size and you begin to wonder where all the big ones are. The big ones are somewhere else and it's up to you to figure that out. I can't agree more with Mister G. I can't speak for pte au baril but as a whole I think the smb and lmb fisheries are pretty solid in ontario. It's so cyclical and you are speaking of a pretty small sample size. Don't get too discouraged.
  4. picked up a 7' compre and i love it
  5. OHHH so you were a victim as well. What a bummer
  6. hey Irishfield, I do believe he was quite honest when he said it had never happened before. He might have known the law but didn't think it would ever be enforced in a parking lot bringing us to our car. BTW i dont remember the officers name but he had dark slicked back hair, there was another officer with him too.
  7. Actually looking back apparently we were allowed on the ice without helmets but once we hit land they were allowed to fine us. Our car was maybe 20 yds from the boat ramp, he drove us to our car, they sat there and waited for us to hit land so they could fine us legitimately. It was a bit of a jackass move by the OPP to be honest. We were on land for 10 secs without helmets (in a parking lot). The more I think of it the more it pisses me off lol.
  8. Our outfitter was not aware of the law with the trailered sled. It was the first time he had heard of it. Trust me Chris it was an awkward moment. We knew he felt terrible and responsible for this bad luck but we ate up the fine. He learnt a lesson that day and I doubt he will make it again. Neither will we! Mind you he only drove about 5-10km/hr with us in the back. We never thought we were in any danger without helmets.
  9. was up there in jan last year, I can second the previous poster, we did better along the deep breaklines at sunrise and sunset for the eyes and got a few lakers too. Ask john to drill you some holes (if you don't bring an auger) in these areas closer to the islands. Last year our bungalow was in 70+ fow. We had lots of luck at night deadsticking minnows on the bottom in the deep water for burbot (ling) and caught a few whities as well deep. Make sure to bring a large bore medical needle with you for the smaller ling you release because they need pressure relieved to get back down the hole. Hope that helps. Make sure John provides some helmets for you on the way out and back in because we all got nailed with fines from the OPP for riding in the sled without helmets it was a bummer and a shi^ty way to end a good trip. We had good luck with the eyes and lakers on bucksots tipped with minnows btw.
  10. thanks fellas, getting the itch, hope we get into em. 2 more days of work then were off! South shore condos is our guide.
  11. Does anyone know if they honor stuff without a sales receipt? I have a broken trolling rod that broke 6 inches from the tip for no apparent reason this past fall. The rod was in use for maybe 2-3 days of fishing. I have looked for the receipt and it is definitely long gone.
  12. Anything working better than others? Is the live bait bite the go to or have artificials been producing just as well. Have some small clackin raps and rattle traps that I have been willing to try with the eyes. Has this been working for some anglers? I am new to vertical jigging with the lipless cranks but it seems more exciting than deadsticking minnows. Thanks
  13. looks like the weather will be a bit more tolerable next week
  14. Heading up to Nipissing with the fellas for a few days of fishing the southern shore. Just wondering if the fishing has been consistent? If anything is working better than others? Would love a bit of input, this will be my first time fishing hard water there. Thanks!
  15. albright knot, best knot, strongest knot learn it! But I suggest doing more like 16-20 wraps. It will still go through your guides fine when you really start tying them good, just not through micro guides
  16. That's not the type of stories I like to hear porkpie! Ive never hit a rock. Do you usually have to be going at a decent speed to cause real damage or can 10 mph cause damage too?
  17. Buy sinking worms for shallower water or around shallow emergent cover and remember mono line makes it fall much slower...If you fish deeper 6+ fow I agree with previous posts, try dropshotting it I have lots of luck doing this on LSC for smallies
  18. Hello everyone! I am heading to Kahshe Lake next month for the first time for a few days. I love fishing for bass and pike and of course a few eyes are always nice bonus fish. I heard this is a great lake for fishing. I own a 17ft Crestliner Fish Hawk and she is my "baby" lol. All I have read about the lake is that it is a true nightmare for navigating with lots of unmarked rocky obstructions. I do truly like to explore new lakes and that usually means navigating shallower areas especially when fishing bass and pike. I have also read that county started an initiative to make a better effort to mark these areas that could cause potential harm to ppls boats. I welcome anyone who is familiar with the lake to please give me some advice and hopefully some peace of mind when navigating this lake next month. Thanks
